Just as it seemed that Jordan Amavi’s injury wasn’t as bad as it first appeared, so the OS have confirmed that the talented left back will be out for the rest of the season.

The hope was that he might have just twisted a ligament, but the update confirms that he has ruptured the Anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

This is a major blow to the club, as we are limited to who is available to replace him and it would seem Kieran Richardson is the obvious choice, a player who wouldn’t be many fans choice.

You would think that a proper replacement will be top of the list in the January window, which might impact on improvements in other areas, but that’s for the future.

In the meantime, I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing the lad a speedy recovery.

F**king s**t friendlies do my head in waste of time we seem to lose a player everytime they come around and it’s always one of are better players!!
Get well soon Jordan the villa gonna miss ur talent….. 🙁

    1. MATE I’m sure it wasn’t a friendly it was during an U 21s Euro qualifier.

      1. Ps I also think friendly Internationals at this time of the year is pointless especially with the busy festive schedule in the EPL.

Ok pal didn’t realise it was a qualifier… If was its just unfortunate injury again for us.
Still pissed of where losing one of are best players again.

  6. can we add another name to the 25 if somebody is ruled out for the season.

    1. Badger123 avatar

      Here’s how the Beeb summed things up Steve;

      – Clubs register a squad of up to 25 players, which must include at least eight ‘home-grown’ players, at the end of each transfer window.

      – Home-grown players do not have to be English; home-grown players are defined as those who “irrespective of nationality or age, have been affiliated to the FA or Welsh FA for a period of three seasons or 36 months prior to 21st birthday”

      – Clubs can supplement squad with unlimited number of players under the age of 21.

      – Changes can be made only during transfer windows, although in exceptional circumstances (eg goalkeeping injury crisis) moves could be allowed.

      – Players loaned to Football League clubs cannot be replaced, but can regain their spot on return to parent club.

      – Rules apply only to Premier League matches, not European, FA Cup or League Cup action.

      – First deadline is 1700 BST on 1 September (24 hours after end of August transfer window).

So we could add U-21s or apply for exceptional circumstances, where I think we’d have no chance.

      1. thanks
        no then

  7. Unbelievable bad luck for him and Villa. Very similar to Okore when we signed him.

    Fuck

  8. Luc Nillis all over again.

On another note, did Peter Beardsley play for us? I just don’t remember that!!!!

    1. Badger123 avatar

      Beardsley?
      No.

      1. That’s what I thought but read an article earlier about Platt’s debut how he came on as a sub for Beardsley!!!!!! I think the author is mistaken…

        1. You sure it wasn’t his England debut? He made his England debut as a sub. Not sure who for.

          1. Good point…that would make sense.

  9. Gutted. Feel for the young man, what a terrible week for all of us. Can’t imagine how much worse it must be for a Frenchman, especially one who just had a season ending injury as well. Here’s to a speedy and complete recovery.

Whilst I’m sure he’s nobody’s favourite player, Richardson has usually put in a good shift when needed, he had a decent end to last season and was one of the very few who stood up to be counted in the cup final. With Bennett & Cissokho to possibly return in January at least we have numbers there, if not huge quality.

Does anybody know what Ashley Cole is up to these days?

    1. Badger123 avatar

I don’t think anyone can knock Richardson for his effort, but he just doesn’t offer what we need on the attacking side of things, does he?

But that begs the question – why are we expecting the full-backs to do the attacking?
Isn’t this one of the criticisms of Hutton – that he attacks too much [& isn’t very useful at the end of it] leaving the defence exposed?

If we have full-backs who are basically defenders, then find midfielders/wingers to go forward.

        1. Good point Ardent. There’s not many teams blessed with full backs that do both well. If you can only have one, I’d rather a solid defender who knows his limitations than the other way around. Most of our wide players are terrible at tracking back, so at least we’re balanced in that regard!

          1. Ardent Villain avatar
            Ardent Villain

So many occasions when we’ve been undone basically because one or other fullback has lost/given away possession up front and then been caught out of position by the counter…

As you say, if they can’t do both roles well, I’d rather see them concentrate on doing their defensive one properly.

      2. I wouldn’t disagree with that. You’d think that as a midfielder who was shoehorned into a defensive role later in his career, he’d be more comfortable attacking than defending, but you’re right, he’s not. Hopefully Bennett has improved his defensive skills whilst on loan. I always thought that Cissokho was a solid defender, absolute pants going forward though!

This is the dilemma I’ve spoken about for ages.
It’s the modern way for FBs to be able to do both jobs and I think it’s rubbish unless you have an outstanding player.
And we haven’t had a FB of that sort of standard in years.

I’ve previously said I think Cissokho is our best defensive LB, but is rubbish going forward.
Whereas it’s the opposite with Amavi.
And yes, it’s similar with Hutton.

Frankly, I don’t know why we try and play the system myself, when we don’t have the required standard.
Play proper defensive full backs and get pace on the wings, where they don’t have to keep tracking back all the time, because the FBs aren’t out of position.

Probably far too old fashioned and wtf do I know?

    1. That sums it up very well. A strong team compensates for its weaknesses and plays to its strengths. Shouldn’t be thought of as old fashioned at all.

With the paucity of possession of any kind recently, let alone patient attacking build up play, our full backs have been forced to play like a constant counterattack, haring forward to cross to player(s) sprinting into the box. Hopefully with a more possession based, patient style of play we’ll allow them to support attacks, but not rely on players who aren’t really up to it to create chances.

On a different note, Lambert has taken over Blackburn.
Not that I give a stuff about him, although it’s about his level, but it’s more Blackburn’s plight.

16th in the league after 16 games, the 6th manager in 5 years, can’t buy any players and loans/frees limited to 10k a week because of FFP.

    Take note Lerner;

  12. I wonder if Sherwood would of applied for that position????it wouldn’t of surprised me one bit.I bet his application was filed immediately in the bin. 😀

Returning to the LB debate. We can only get Bennett / Cissoko back if there is a recall clause in the loan agreement. My recollection is they both went on season long loans so probably not available. Do we just have one loan at present – Ilori? If so we will probably look to loan a LB in January

  14. wtf is happening at these international breaks ayew, and gestede injured and doubts for the weekend

    1. Asked an Everton friend if he’s any good, he basically claims he’s Ray Wilkins 2.0, but has even less respect from the players than Wilkins had. Even got laughed at once when he had to take over training.

      1. Ardent Villain avatar
        Ardent Villain

Seems he’s spent most of his coaching career with McLaren, Allardyce and Moyes.

Not exactly ‘inspirational’ to my mind, but perhaps he’s got some defensive qualities that wouldn’t have gone down well with ManUre fans, but which might still be useful under Garde?

        1. Possible, but according to the Everton fan he doesn’t do anything. He pretends to use his experience giving orders but he doesn’t actually do/accomplish anything. Basically like Wilkins.

          1. Why doesn’t REMI stick with the French connection????or is Round another plant by the club???

          2. He tried but can’t get who he wants. Might possibly looking for someone with Premier League experience?

          3. What happened with the guy I think it was from METZ???

          4. Robert Duverne? He’s the fitness coach. Had him under Houllier as well.

Get the impression Round is a stop gap appointment to the end of the season when Garde will go back to Lyon for his team. Garde clearly needs help on the administrative side so he can concentrate on training and tactics.

          6. That’s my guess. But we need someone, better.

Found it interesting there’s a report from France claiming Villa were offering Saint Etienne 10m to buyout Galtier’s contract but things got too complex and we decided on Garde (who actually said yes to Etienne if they lost Galtier). So my guess is we clearly tried getting Lyon’s assistants but they weren’t having it. Hopefully next summer.

He will have us going Round in circles. What happens when it’s his Round lol

  15. to be honest any flop from Man utd could help us wouldn’t you think, it ain’t what you know its who.

  16. Ghana claims Ayew’s fit. Odd. Hope so.

    1. I hope he’s not carrying a knock/niggle that could develope into something more serious.

      1. It’s possible I guess. Gestede came back with a knock, but I don’t see why Ghana would feel the need to lie about his injury. It was supposedly only a slight leg injury that wasn’t anywhere near serious when it was first reported, then the “ITK’s” came out with made up rumours of him being out till February.

  17. Being linked to Costil and Sirigu in goal. Either would make great additions.

Ayew’s playing for Ghana so I’m gonna guess the outrage over his injury came from nothing.

    1. Andrew are these players any good??you seem to have some nowse on foreign players.

      1. Sirigu’s been PSG’s starting goal keeper for the last couple seasons until they bought Trapp, he’s quality.

Costil I don’t know too much about, other than he’s been very solid for Rennes

        1. Ardent Villain avatar
          Ardent Villain

Costil playing for France tonight at Wembley – or at least he’s in the line-up’s…

          1. Still behind Lloris and Mandanda, but it’s understandable why with those 2. The fact he’s making it ahead of Ruffier says a lot though.

  18. badger123 avatar

    Ayew scored 🙂

    1. May it continue in the CLARET & BLUE.

I see that L’Equippe have included Alan Hutton in their Great Britain XI – are Scotland that short of players! 🙂

  20. Are there any good left backs on the market possibily French atm????

    1. French? Unlikely. Kurzawa is by far the best french LB but he’s at Monaco, and would only leave for a big step up, Digne’s having a hard time at Roma but he’d still probably not come. Benjamin Mendy of Marseille is young and talented, dunno if he’s on the market or not.

As for other LB’s possible. I’d say Antunes of Dynamo Kiev, Boesnich of Leverkusen, Hector of Koln, Castro of Celta Vigo. One of those would be quality.

Someone mentioned to me about Ashley Cole, I personally wouldn’t take him but I guess he’d be an option.

      1. Ardent Villain avatar
        Ardent Villain

Cole ? Good enough a few years ago, sure; but today i’d reckon he’s about as much use as Lescott.

        1. That was my thought, but a few Villa fans and a close Liverpool friend claimed we should look at him on like a 6 month contract just to replace Amavi. I thought it was stupid mainly because we need a 2nd LB anyways, so why not actually get one who can start now, and fight Amavi for that starting spot next season?

        2. I wouldn’t knock Cole as let’s face he was in an unstable team. It’s worth a go just to get us through them few months. If Garde get them knowing what’s what and believing in themselves it might work.

  21. Cashley, I mean Ashely Cole on a 6 month deal? I think not.

  22. Sherwood could sell ice to the Eskimos so getting the position would be a formality, trouble is it’ll be all down hill there on.he really is deluded when it comes to his abilities so nought surprises me with him.
