Jedinak in, good signing and Lescott out, good riddance

It’s official then and Mile Jedinak is now a Villa player.
This is a great signing in my opinion and one that’s been designed to give us some decent bite in midfield, which we’ve lacked for far too long. Or at least since we had a snake in our midst.
While I have my concerns that he’s nearing the end of his career and he’s probably high up on our wage earnings list (he must be, to drop down a division), he’s exactly what we need.
Couple him with Elphick and we now have two fighters in our side who will not let heads drop in the way they have over the last year or so.
Add the fact that it seems the Crystal Palace players are not happy with Jedinak being replaced as captain,
it bodes well and I totally welcome him to the club.

Combine it with Westwood leaving in his place and I’d be chuffed. But I don’t think that will happen although I can always hope.

Other good news is that Lescott is odds on to be on his way out, with Rangers’ boss Mark Warburton having met him for talks in Manchester.
There is mention that they’re willing to offer him £10,000 a week, which is a big drop on what he currently earns at the Villa, even if his wages, as suggested, have been halved as part of a relegation clause.
So he won’t be leaving for anywhere near free, as much as we all want, as surely we’ll have to pay him the equivalent of what he stands to lose.
Fair play to Xia, he said he’d pay to get rid and it would seem he will actually do it.

There’s also talk that Sunderland might be interested in the player too, but I’d suggest that’s a weak link, purely down to Moyes being the manager.

While I think it’s a great move for the Villa, because Lescott has been awful overall, I also find it a bit sad.
It might not have seemed like it, but we shouldn’t forget he’s actually a Villa fan.

  1. All we need now is Gabby out and this won’t have been bad business overall.
Add another mid and a RB and it’ll be very good.

  2. Jedinak should be just what we’ve needed for years – a proper ‘hard man’ in midfield who can also actually play the game. IMO he can be a lot more useful than the snake ever was.

Lescott needs to go – anywhere – soonest; OK so he apparently grew up as a fan, and it would have been great to have had him in the team some 5 or more years ago, but his performances last season were a disgrace.

  3. Palace fans going nuts about jedi leaving saying he wasone of their best players …good news for us.

    1. Yes, just as I suggested.
Pardew has obviously had to look at the bigger picture and take the money while Jedinak still has some worth.

But then then I see Palace have bid £23mill with add-ons making £30 mill, for Benteke and it dawns on me how far we have truly fallen.
And Pool have knocked it back!

We really need to get promoted at the first attempt and if we have to over-pay, so be it.

  4. Jedinak is a fantastic signing , as for Lescott don’t let the door hit you on the way out. He had no respect for club and fans last season .

        1. Selfish player who is not as good as he thinks he is….. Sell him and move on…. We will never hear of him again!

        1. Very true, but I can’t see him wanting to come down to the championship to play!

    1. No loads sick of us being a feeder club. Look at Gollini I know he’s not a loan but will be a great keeper in a few years unfortunately not for us

  5. Just read a tweet from the doc saying something on the lines about ppl with talent can’t succeed without hardwork, team spirit & commitment and that’s what he told the players. Obviously that was directed at him. I Couldn’t agree more! I do like the way xia goes about letting us fans know on Twitter as soon as something happens, I know it’s not the norm but I think it’s great.

  6. Shame about Traore – but at the speed he runs it takes exceptional control to deliver the ball, either on the ground or in the air, into a colleague in the box. He has not got it. He is half a great footballer, and the management do not think, obviously, they can train him to master the other half. Sell!

    1. OLL – have Barcelona stopped laughing yet? We should have realised when they didn’t include their normal buy back clause for young ‘talent’

  7. yeah when traore signed i was really excited but it seems like hes a typical young footballer who doesnt want to listen, and will probably be bouncing round clubs all over europe till he goes to the M L S or China when hes about 28 .
Probably never win anything but still be loaded when he retires.

  8. We’ve been lacking any sort of leadership on the field for the last few seasons.

With Elphick and Jedinak on board that should hopefully change.

I think Jedinak could be the most important signing of the lot. Having some real bite in midfield will make a very nice change.

  9. Yeah all we need is for him to get the clearance for sat then it’s a straight swap for Westwood. Then I think we will beat Derby on Saturday. Here’s hoping eh!

      1. I don’t think we’re as bad as you think oohah!!

        1. Gollini will give them them a goal start plus the one they normally score so 2.1 to them

  10. Amadou Diawara has confirmed that English Championship side Aston Villa have made a £14.7-million bid for the Guinean.
You never know Oohah might have something positive to say about this kid, he’s got a touch of the McGrath’s about him.

    1. BWS – Bit worried about the size of our bid for a 19 year old (if true). According to reports AC Milan offered €4m plus add ons of a further €8m – i.e. If he proves to be the real deal. Also reported that Naples and Roma offered lesser sums than us but now withdrawn their interest.

Hope Mr. ‘Moneyball’ Riley isn’t involved in the deal.

      1. Hitchy he looks very accomplished from the clips on YouTube but then again who don’t? I have to admit that last season I waxed lyrical about signings after viewing their ‘best of’ and how wrong I was.
This lad’s a different type for one he plays in a top league and secondly he’s a different type of player so the clips don’t show some wonder goal but more his ability to read the game, break things up and move the ball forward with purpose.
Dear yes, but he does look some prospect

        1. fair enough – pleased they didn’t show any wonder goals on U Tube as he didn’t score any last season 🙂

          1. That’s half the problem Hitchy everyone today thinks a player has to be Ronaldo with ten step overs and a wonder goal where sometimes Des Bremner Will do.

            1. Give me 10 Des Bremners or IAN Taylor’s any day. Look at Leicester last season yes they had a few talented players but look at the way they all got their hands dirty working hard for each other and closing down the opposition when they lost the ball to win back possession. That’s what u call a proper team

  11. Fingers crossed on the Lescott deal.Just need some other mugs to come in for Richards and Gabby now.

A right back is still needed, but I think any signings after that will be a bonus! Excellent transfer window so far.

  12. Looks like Dr Tony is willing to do anything to get the bad eggs out the squad as he’s confirmed on twitter we’ll still be paying Lescott part of his wage. Still, needs must and Richards should be the next out the door at any cost.

    1. He seems quite good supposed to be quick and have good concentration. The concentration bit is crucial for us as we’ve had too many players that lose concentration at vital moments. Eg Gollini

  13. Although I’m really happy with the transfer window so far, I do hope we get a good right back in. We still are venerable in that position!!

    1. Agreed SCV. If media are to be beloved then RDM has also identified a new RB as a critical need. Bacuna to go if we get one?

  14. Remember Yedlin having a good World Cup in 2014, especially in that epic USA Belgium match.

I’m guessing he’s struggled to make an impact with Walker and Trippier ahead of him at Spurs.

I can’t recall many of his appearances when he was on loan at Sunderland but Big Sam must have had a positive influence when they shored things up in the latter half of the season.

Is rapid going forward too, bit of a mirror image of Amavi.

  15. Would you not keep him as back up in that position & get rid of Richards first? It is a long old season with games coming thick and fast. We are a bit light in that position!

    1. Good point SCV – yes would keep in preference to Richards definitely. Bacuna has shown, in flashes, he can play in an attacking right sided role. I was thinking about his problems with the fans last season but Richards was worse!

    2. Richards sulks when he plays rht bk though. He could of made that rht bk position his own if he put his mind to it but can’t be bothered

  16. Have to say that the comings and goings, slow to start off with, have been beyond my expectations. Agree with others that a RB is what’s needed now.

    Still, some brilliant deals done.

    1. Shame Randy didn’t exit stage left last season we may have kept us in the top flight but still exciting times to be a Villan.
There’s a momentum about the club that’s been absent for many a year.

    2. Still need some more quality in midfield. Jedinak will get injured or suspended who have we got to replace him. Nobody.
