I’m sure most of you are aware that one of our ‘Legends’ passed away today. http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/updates-ex-villa-star-dalian-11749832
At the time of writing we do not know the full details of what happened other that he was allegedly tasered by the police in a domestic incident and died soon after.
Whatever the circumstances we have lost a ‘member of the Villa family’ and I’m sure everyone on this site will want his family and friends to know we are thinking of them in their darkest hour.
Atkinson was part of a great attacking team for us in the 90s managed by his namesake Ron Atkinson. His partnership with Dean Saunders was arguably one of the best and exciting we have witnessed in modern times. And of course he will always be remembered for ‘that’ goal v Wimbledon (below) which is even more iconic after today.
RIP Dalian Atkinson 😓
I was shocked when I saw this, as he was younger than me.
Very Sad.
RIP Dalian and thanks for the memories.
Thanks for posting for me Badger not sure what happened kept on crashing when I tried to post. Then I couldn’t get on site. Cheers mate
No worries.
Weird. Badger names him above but I can’t post the Welshman’s name without it crashing my post.
And I’ve just found the reason why.
You’ll have mail in a min explaining.
Sad news about Dalian he scored some outstanding goals RIP.
Really good memories of Dalian.
Who can forget the goal of the season at Wimbledon and him running Manure ragged at Wembley in 1994?
****RIP Dalian, my thoughts are with your family, friends and loved ones****
Correction,..should have said against Wimbledon at Selhurst Park. I knew the man with the brolley but cant recall his name…..can anyone help me with that?
I wouldn’t mind putting up a post to find the man with brolly to come and do a post for us. What do people think. It was such an iconic moment for us and the brolly just captured the moment brilliantly. What do you all think.
Oohah…,that would be good mate. Used to go to every away game with him in the good old div 3 games.
Thanks Langford. Il give it some thought. Any ideas re the best way to go about it would be useful thanks.
One of our best beyond a doubt, God rest Dalian loved your input,
RIP Dalian. Will never forget that goal and you really were a marvelous player for us. It’s the cheeky smile I will remember as much as your goals.
totally shocked 🙁 when i heard and after about dalian 🙁 wonderful player that excited us with all types of important and special goals.
he blessed us with many top memories, god bless Dalian, never ever forgotten
VTID
I have been a regular follower of Villa from 1977. Even including the European Cup side, and Little & Gray, for me the most spectacular and most enjoyable football was played in the Ron, Dalian and Dean era. We could have had all the slots on GOTM in some months.
A light extinguished. RIP.
A big part of the most exciting side we ever had. A light extinguished. RIP.
Well said OLL. Arguably out must exciting attacking team ever imo certainly up there with the gray little Graydon combo
Who is the sicko who disliked my Dalian tribute…unbelievable.
I’m out of here!
Ignore the PRICK mate.
ppl that disliked that comment, are not worth the mention.
Langford mate that ain’t you fight them idiots. And I don’t for one minute think its you they dislike but just devilish idiocy. Keep it coming.
No strike partnership at Villa has come close to that Deano and Dalian combo since.
Thanks for the memories and making a 13 year old boy very happy at witnessing us win a cup for the first time!
A pleasure to watch in one of Villas best teams.
RIP Dalian
Agree great partnership best strike force in the country imo. Dwight Yorke was left out if league cup final v Utd which showed how good they were.
This isn’t good and it’s not a scandal rag either;

Kicking?
If that’s true, I hope they get what they deserve.
As for the dislikes, that’s pathetic and it’s because they dis-like you as a poster, not for what you’ve said, Langford.
I think I can rid of the dislikes, as they’re obviously not being used in the correct way and am looking at it.
Getting bloody fed up of it all to be honest and I can feel some surgery coming on, if it doesn’t stop.
Saw the interview on BBC Midlands Today at 6:30 this evening with the neighbour who mentioned the ‘kicking’: I thought I’d mis-heard her, so replayed the clip a few times. She definitely said ‘kicking’ – and I was amazed that neither the reporter nor the studio anchor picked up on it.
I know that this isn’t the place for politics – but that slogan which has been heard a lot in the US in recent months [“Black Lives Matter”] also has some relevance in this country.
I disagree it’s one witness and witnesses can and do get stuff wrong especially in the heat of the moment. We don’t even know for definite if police are always guilty of race crimes in USA let alone here. I’m not saying police are innocent or guilty but we have to hear both sides of the story first it’s so easy to blame the police especially when the person they tasered was quite high profile. I just hope this isn’t used for the liberal lefty PC mobs future propaganda campaigns!
Oohah – my point was how surprised/shocked I was to hear the interviewee talk about ‘kicking’ — AND – that none of the news people picked her up on that – at least to ask her to clarify whether she really meant what she’d just said.
Agree that we don’t know the ‘facts’ yet …
Badger, that’s murder mate, full stop, even might follow whats going on in that yanky land.
It’s one witness Bill, as far as I know and we should keep an open mind, imo.
But as I said, it doesn’t sound good.
The data from the Taser has been D/L’d and should confirm how many times it was used.
I think a taser can only be used a couple of times though possibly could of been more than one used.
Done.
That’s better if you dislike a post, post why you do.
Living back in Birmingham at the time, as a misguided 8 year old or so. I had pullout posters from Birmingham Mail of both AVFC AND BCFC (perish the thought!)
I remember my dad told me I had to choose one team, I couldn’t support them both. That weekend, I watched Saunders and Atkinson rip up a defence (can’t remember who they were playing).
The BCFC poster was ripped from my wall that night.
RIP Dalian, you were one of the first footballers I knew and admired, and started my love for Villa.
Power, pace, control, flair he had it all and another Villain not to get the England recognition his talent deserved.
If he had scored the Wimbledon and been a Utd player the media would be fawning over that goal forever!
If it turns out to be true about ‘the kicking’ then we, as ‘the Villa family’ should fight for justice and ensure that appropiate action is taken against those responsible.
I’m keeping an open mind for now. The situation is extremely sad!
We can’t jump to conclusions. His own dad said he was possibly on drugs/drink. It will be awhile before we know what really went on.
Wise words Oohah.
👍
It appears Dalian was in a bad way and not totally compos mentis.
