Dalian Atkinson RIP

I’m sure most of you are aware that one of our ‘Legends’ passed away today. http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/updates-ex-villa-star-dalian-11749832

At the time of writing we do not know the full details of what happened other that he was allegedly tasered by the police in a domestic incident and died soon after.

Whatever the circumstances we have lost a ‘member of the Villa family’ and I’m sure everyone on this site will want his family and friends to know we are thinking of them in their darkest hour.

Atkinson was part of a great attacking team for us in the 90s managed by his namesake Ron Atkinson. His partnership with Dean Saunders was arguably one of the best and exciting we have witnessed in modern times. And of course he will always be remembered for ‘that’ goal v Wimbledon (below) which is even more iconic after today.

RIP Dalian Atkinson 😓

    Really good memories of Dalian.
Who can forget the goal of the season at Wimbledon and him running Manure ragged at Wembley in 1994?

****RIP Dalian, my thoughts are with your family, friends and loved ones****

I wouldn’t mind putting up a post to find the man with brolly to come and do a post for us. What do people think. It was such an iconic moment for us and the brolly just captured the moment brilliantly. What do you all think.

I have been a regular follower of Villa from 1977. Even including the European Cup side, and Little & Gray, for me the most spectacular and most enjoyable football was played in the Ron, Dalian and Dean era. We could have had all the slots on GOTM in some months.

    A light extinguished. RIP.

No strike partnership at Villa has come close to that Deano and Dalian combo since.

Thanks for the memories and making a 13 year old boy very happy at witnessing us win a cup for the first time!

A pleasure to watch in one of Villas best teams.

    RIP Dalian

Agree great partnership best strike force in the country imo. Dwight Yorke was left out if league cup final v Utd which showed how good they were.

Living back in Birmingham at the time, as a misguided 8 year old or so. I had pullout posters from Birmingham Mail of both AVFC AND BCFC (perish the thought!)

I remember my dad told me I had to choose one team, I couldn’t support them both. That weekend, I watched Saunders and Atkinson rip up a defence (can’t remember who they were playing).

The BCFC poster was ripped from my wall that night.

RIP Dalian, you were one of the first footballers I knew and admired, and started my love for Villa.

Power, pace, control, flair he had it all and another Villain not to get the England recognition his talent deserved.

If he had scored the Wimbledon and been a Utd player the media would be fawning over that goal forever!

If it turns out to be true about ‘the kicking’ then we, as ‘the Villa family’ should fight for justice and ensure that appropiate action is taken against those responsible.

I’m keeping an open mind for now. The situation is extremely sad!

We can’t jump to conclusions. His own dad said he was possibly on drugs/drink. It will be awhile before we know what really went on.
