It’s looking like Roy Keane as the new assistant

It’s been pretty much confirmed that Roy Keane will not be going to the World Cup with ITV.
And if you read the following quote from an ITV spokesman, it’s also pretty obvious that he isn’t going to be a pundit at all in the near future, at least;

ā€œRoy has been a tremendous part of our pundit team in recent years, but we fully understand his decision to concentrate wholly on his coaching,ā€ ā€œWe wish him every success for the future.ā€

Hence, there’s every chance that he will be coming to the Villa.
So what do we think of this?

Well, to be honest I’m not impressed at the thought.
While I think Keane was an absolutely fantastic player (I even remember calling for the Villa to sign him before Man Utd got him), I don’t rate him at all as a good man manager, which is surely what is needed for an assistant?
He’s always given the impression that he relates to other people in the same way as he played his football; hard. But unlike as a player, without any finesse or skill.
In other words, a bit of a bully.

Which makes this seem a very strange addition to the staff, given that the previous assistants were sacked after accusations of bullying?
Unless of course, it’s so Lambert can play “good cop, bad cop?
Except I don’t really see that being the case.

And then there’s the timing of it all.
What will Keane want in wages? I don’t know, but I doubt he’ll come cheap.
So why would Randy Lerner be willing to shell out, when he could just get some lesser known (and hence cheaper) coach in? At least that would fit the pattern of what’s been going on lately.

  1. Mate I take that article with a pinch of salt the Irish bias comes out by saying Keane is fully committed to the Ireland job & won’t be distracted by any outside influence basically so it’s up to people to make there own mind up. He’s coming plain & simple

As I sat listening to Lambert’s snivelling apologies for woeful displays last season I longed for a change to a “Hairdryer” awaiting the players behind the dressing room door. Getting Sir Alex is impossible but getting the next best thing has to be good. We have more under-performers than just not up to it players IMO, so Keane may provide the necessary catalyst.

I am with you there Original, anything to stop the rot and kick some ass or we will slowly and quietly slip into the relegation zone next season without so much as a whimper while everyone within the club and media blame the ‘situation’ of being up for sale.

Senderos is an improvement on two of our centre backs that is how bad our squad is

Medical for Senderos tomorrow according to some claims.

Andrew.. i hope not.. IF Senderos was to sign it would def signal that there is NO takeover on the offing what so ever..!!

I would have thought we wouldn’t be signing anyone till after the world cup in the hope that a realistic bid might come in…

    Very worrying times..!!

According to MailOnline Sport. Of course it could all be wrong, but I doubt it. I don’t mind him, better than some give him credit for imo.

It is odd he gets to sign a player but I don’t think a new owner/manager would mind having a Senderos in the squad.

Andrew.. the express and star reporting it..

I am gutted to be honest.. it def means all this rubbish that there is a bif in.. due diligence is happening etc.. Keane coming due to new owners etc etc is complete bollox..

    Like i said.. worrying times..

Not worried, don’t think Senderos coming in would deter the sale of the club.

I do it’s obvious now that we will not have a new owner or manager for new season

Do to one player coming in? Fascinating.

I don’t think we are really up for sale Andrew. Lerner paying lip service to it to appease the fans. This could drag on for years

Might not be all doom and gloom everyone. Def more players to choose from as it seems. Don’t think senderous will be 1st choice anyway. Just need a quality left back and midfielder. Hopefully n’zog will get his act together and maybe grealish and Gardner will be our young gems. I personally would welcome bent and Hutton back into the fold as options ( we are paying them why not use them). Lambert needs to develop a style of play and quick. No more excuses that it is a young team. Maybe Roy Keanu can turn sylla into a real def midf.

    Here’s believing!

Well if he can’t be first choice with our shit defence then that says it all

You are another one blinded by keane the player. He is not coaching or management material. Complete waste of space

I agree with you that Keane was a disaster in his last attempts, but I guess until we are sold we have clutch at straws. Senderous will add something as a squad player! I am praying that okore is going to be our new McGrath/laursen.

But surely Keane can add something in the coaching aspect, it has to be better than Bert and Ernie last season.

Forget the sale. Living in the now, the club as no money to spend and the manager needs to prepare for the upcoming season. I welcome Senderos, not exactly what I was hoping, but he’s an improvement on what we have on the bench and he adds desperate coverage at the back. He is what 29-30? Coming up to his prime years are a defender, so given the clubs situation and everyone’s complaints about Clark and Baker last season this move should come as great news to most.

Marvin senderos is useless no better than Clarke or baker.

      1. Andrew avatar

Of course Senderos is better than both…

Wrong Oohah. I remember watching him at Villa Park and expecting it to be a bonus for us that he was playing. He won everything in the air and totally dominated our attack. He is experienced and probably worth having on that alone given the mistakes that Clarke and Baker make.

Its a realistic signing given our current predicament.

Reports from QPR claim we’ve contacted them over Joey Barton (A controversial as hell signing but 1 I’d like to see) and my mate claims it was Keane’s idea.

Keane v Barton better than froch v groves lol. Don’t want that nasty wanker anywhere near our team. Complete tosser. If that’s the best keane can come up with then don’t bother. Also means that if we sign these players we are not selling this season at least. So another yr of lamberk and if not him then keane. So glad me and family didn’t buy STs

      1. Andrew avatar

You want a bit of steal who’s still a good player, Barton’s your man. šŸ˜‰

Agree with Oohah – Barton is a nasty piece of work who should’ve been banned from football for life, years ago.
If there’s ever been a more genuine example of someone ‘not fit to wear the shirt’ I struggle to think who it was.

Agree Ardent he is a disgrace to football just line lee bowyer. Complete scum bag if he was that good qpr would still want him. I will not support someone like Barton hate everything he stands for.

  12. Bringing in that talentless gobshite will cause nothing but unrest on & off the field, maybe Keane can keep him under control LOL
