It’s confirmed then, Sherwood it is.

Tim Sherwood

For once, I actually called something correctly and Tim Sherwood has been confirmed as our next manager.
I gave my reasons as to why I thought he might be the choice in the previous post, so I won’t go over that again.
What’s surprised me though, is how fast the deal has been done and I’m actually quite impressed.

There are two options as to how we’ve gone about things, in my opinion.
We’ve either panicked and done it all in what? two days?
Or this has been planned for a while and Fox has been negotiating with Sherwood quietly behind the scenes.
I suspect and hope it was probably the latter, although I can’t say I’d be pleased if that’s the way we go about business, ie doing a deal behind Lambert’s back. But this is Football and the whole game seems to have a different set of rules, doesn’t it?

So there we go, Sherwood it is then.

It’s good that we’ve appointed him before tomorrow’s game against Leicester, as I was quite prepared for us to lose, so we could concentrate all our energy on the league. Now that we have a manager though, my attitude has changed and I want us to go all out to win the game.

I won’t say it’s a stunning appointment, but I do think it’s a decent one, given our current requirements. Let’s hope Sherwood can hit the ground running eh?
I think we can expect some fireworks in the next few weeks, as it would seem he doesn’t mince his words, which is probably why some people dislike him with a passion.
Personally, I think this is exactly what’s needed, as many fans, even neutral ones, think that our team ought to be performing better than it is in reality.
Which to me says that certain players are far too comfortable.

I really don’t care who he falls out with, as long as he keeps us up.
Survival this season is all that counts for me and if he proves overly troublesome, we can sack him at the end of the season, even if it costs us three and a half year’s wages.
It’ll be pennies in the scheme of things. As long as we survive relegation.

Welcome aboard Tim and good luck.
I suspect you’ll need it.

Likely to be in the stands with the Marshall’s too take over for tomorrow. Which I’m not looking forward too after Scott Marshall’s comments he’s going to be asking Lambert for consultation. I’d sack him solely for that too.

Andrew, you’re spot on about Marshall; what a cop-out for his only game in charge to ask the guy who’s just spent the whole season to date proving that he didn’t have an answer [in fact didn’t even seem to know what the question was].

He really should be sent a P45 just for that crass statement.

Well I for sure not really happy with the appointment of Sherwood not much managerial experience as yet and couldn’t get best out of a good spurs team.
Am so pissed off we didn’t try Glenn hoddle as he has vast experience and tactical knowledge of the game and will have a few contact abroad as he has been around Europe running coaching schools!!
I only hope he get the assistant manager job or coaching roll at the mighty villa!!
But gonna back him and hope he proves me wrong and keeps us up.
Then I’ll hold my hands up and apologies!!!
Does anyone know what contract he had been given!??

          Hi Sasa.
Agree – any appointment is going to be a gamble. Even if we’d persuaded SAF to come out of retirement and give us 3 months of his time, there’s no guarantee he’d be able to change this lot around after so many dispiriting non-performances.

I have no idea how Sherwood will do, but can he really do worse than Lambert’s last 4 or 5 months?

Hoddle was actually running an academy in Spain, where he took kids from clubs in the UK who had been released at 18, without earning a contract. His goal was to try to find them opportunities in lower league clubs abroad because they didn’t make the cut in the UK. Not much help to a premier league club other than maybe some contacts with lower division clubs in Spain. I think the benefit of having Hoddle involved would be his coaching pedigree.

Interested that you say TS couldn’t get the best out of a strong Spurs squad. He has the best win ration in the Premier League of any Spurs manager.

I’m quite hopeful this might work. Let’s not forget where he is picking up the squad and that will not t be easy for anyone. One thing is for sure with Tim is he will not except anyone who’s heart and head is not in this relegation battle and who’s heart and head is not in aston villa and playing for us fan. He will put a hard working and committed team out.i just hope he has the tactics and game plan to go with it.

    Good luck Tim

Was nowhere near my first choice. Don’t really understand what he’s done to merit such rave reviews, yes though, his short stint down south was decent enough.

Let’s hope he does a job. Supposeldy he is a man-lanager type which we need terribly right now so that’s a good point. If he can do with Benteke what he did with Adebayor we’ll finish 8th.

As I said, alhtough not my first choice I’m happy the board have amoved fast to secure someone, time is running thin and I’m glad we have someone in to get his ideas across.

The most intriguing thing of all is to see how someone else can do with our squad because I feel with the right man (hopefully sherwood) we are a top half side.

Spot on I don’t honestly get why everyone raving about him. A lot of mates in the media helps bit like mon. Even qpr and. WBA wernt desperate enough to get him. With qpr thinking his assistant is a better bet and after their first away win who can argue. Though like I keep saying any new manager usually makes a positive impact for first 6 games then they get found out. Expect Sherbit to get at least 12 points from next 6 games

Not seen anyone ‘raving’ about him on here; most say same, i.e. we could all think of someone else we’d probably have voted for if it had been our choice.

But he’s here now, and 12 points from the next 6 games would be very good news after the dirge we’ve suffered in the last few months.

Ever thought his demands might have been too much for them? Like asking Peace for money to make the baggies anything more than a yoyo team? That he might have wanted a plan to forward the club? And perhaps now Fox has given him that commitment and those assurances that he couldn’t get at WBA and QPR.
And that’s a bad thing he’s ambitious and wants guarantees?

Of course in the long run virtually all manager appointments end in tears – possible exceptions of Fergie and Wenger – usually a sacking.

Thanks New Regime glad someone has woken up and smelt the coffee. Yes he will keep us up and start of well like all new managers. But next season he will be found out as results go against us and we are back in bottom 5-6 fans will be applauding it saying we are not in bottom 3 and we are playing better football so everything’s great! And Lerner keeps fans happy running us on the cheap with no ambition for another few years. It’s a disgrace imo.

Long time reader first time poster. Not overly enthusiastic with Sherwood but I agree with everyone who says to give him a chance. I think any chance of Hoddle coming in as coach is pie in the sky to be honest, the guy that Sherwood loves is Chris Ramsey, all the stuff I’ve heard and read about this guys coaching ability is extremely positive. He’s contracted to QPR till the end of the season but it wouldn’t surprise me if he leaves and joins Tim at Villa in the summer, hope so anyway. UTV.

was it he or Pochetino that gave Kane his start, or mason or bentaleb, ? or who did he bring anyone through to the senior team while he was manager at spurs? I know he may have done a lot more with them while the youth coach, but just wondering about his ever so short record as the head honcho and what was his policy on youth playing time.

I am not massively keen on Sherwood, however I look at his record at spurs and how he got improvements out of people like Adebayor and think he is probably the best option out there.

He is also a man with a point to prove after leaving spurs…he is definitely driven and I can see him not letting some of the players get away with mediocre performances as they have been doing (Weimann, Sanchez etc still getting praise from Lambert “I thought we were excellent today” after poor displays)

I know he likes putting in youngsters too…Maybe he will give Grealish the belief and confidence then an extended run in the team he needs.

I look at it like this…do I think we are more likely to pick up points with Sherwood than Lambert?

    Yes.

That’ll do for me. (For now!)
