Brad Guzan has committed to Aston Villa and penned a 4-year deal contract. This will extend his stay at the club until the 2016-2017 season. Guzan was brought in by Paul Lambert after being released by McLeish, Guzan has performed some heroics at times and was awarded Aston Villa player of the season. Guzan was always behind Given and Friedel but this season he has stepped up and has been awarded with his performances with a new contract.
“This is just the start now, the start of hard work. We have to build on last year and go forward and that is very much the collective mindset at the Club,” Guzan said.
“We grew together as a team last season and now it’s time to kick on again. We’ll welcome the new guys with open arms and allow them to join this special family that we’ve started to create from last season. It’s an exciting time for the Club for sure.
“For me, it’s an honour and a privilege to play for Aston Villa Football Club and to commit my future long-term. I’m overjoyed by it.
“To have this opportunity to commit my future, with the plans and the future being what they are going forward, it’s tremendously exciting and I know that’s not just for me but for everybody, including the fans. This is what Aston Villa Football Club is all about, we’re a very connected and very committed group and we want to strive to be the best we can possibly be going forward. What we’re building here as a Club, what the manager is building could be very special.
“From a personal standpoint, especially after last season playing consistently through virtually the entire season, hopefully now I’m coming in to some good years ahead and to be able to do that at Villa is exciting. It’s going to be good times ahead.
“It’s always nice when you’re wanted by a club. I’ve had some good years here at Aston Villa and to be able to commit my future just puts a smile on my face. I’m looking forward to the future and to the challenge ahead.”
I am very happy Guzan has committed his long term future, he is a very good goal keeper and there were fears that a top side would snatch him up. I am happy that he is loyal to club and will definitely be a huge part of the team next season. Guzan does want to end his career in the MLS so he won’t be here forever, but currently Guzan totally deserved this new contract.
This is such good news Guzan was a saviour for us last season, his only weakness is at times his distribution. Great player with a great attitude
Its very important to sign him long term. Successful teams are build from the back so not many better keepers around atm. How could we release him last year – thanks god, times (managers) have changed.
great news and a great keeper with better to come, another of the squad who picked up invaluable experience last season and his quotes re club, squad and manager show a glimpse of whats going on a Villa and his commitment to the cause is positive and refreshing.
after how O’Neil treated him in that cup final was unforgivable and just showed O’Neil up as being gutless a bit like his style of football, so very very safe, i.e dull.
then just when there is light at the end of the tunnel, friedel leaving and number 1 shirt up for grabs and a new manager McDraw goes and brings in Given!
despite us conceding a hell of a lot last year we all know how it would have been without his talent between the sticks, not to mention getting save of the season too.
glad he has stuck with us.
good luck Brad.
UTV
im also hoping the way he’s talking about the club and the future means that certain others will be on board with this too and stay here at Villa.
How curious.
Was he only on a temporary deal or something?
Whatever, it’s good to see him and the club comitted to each other and he does indeed seem to be raving about it!
Good news, as I’ve always liked him.
Nice to hear this. Brad sounds like a good un.
Best keeper in the league with one of the highest goals conceded lol
Great news, top player for us!
