Great win over Wigan and Bristol tomorrow, plus no kids for sale

To be honest, when I saw the teamsheet for the Wigan game, I immediately lost any interest and couldn’t be bothered to try and find a stream.
So I just tracked here and the OS for the latest news, while I did other important stuff.

I wouldn’t have minded a few changes, but eleven?
I wanted to see at least some continuity, but Steve Bruce obviously doesn’t see it like that.
Of course, I totally understand that the manager has players knocking his door moaning about wanting to play, but still…

That said, it was a great result, wasn’t it?
From what I heard, Wigan didn’t play too badly and we were actually quite good. Ok, we should expect to beat League one teams, but they have got off to a very good start to the season and as we all know, momentum is massively important. Which goes back to why I didn’t want to see too many changes.

You can’t knock a 4-1 win though, whichever way you dice it and I can only say well done to all the lads involved.

So all in all, it’s been a great week up till now and us scoring four goals two games running is a real rarity.

I wonder if we can keep it up against Bristol City tomorrow?
We’re riddled with injuries again, but you would hope the squad is beginning to show itself and it shouldn’t really cause us a major problem, if confidence is as high as we’d expect it to be.
The interesting injury is Hutton, who you would think Bruce might have wanted to play tomorrow. No doubt young Bree will take his place.

Otherwise, I suspect it’ll be a case of pretty much the eleven who were rested for the Wigan game.

Now Bristol are no mugs, but they haven’t had a great start either, so we should have a very good chance of winning this.
I’m going to go for 2-1 to us, because I’m hoping we’ve found our scoring boots, although I think we don’t look particularly good at the back.

That’s on the assumption that Bruce doesn’t bottle it and actually goes for the win, which I think he has too.
If he plays his more usual canny (defensive “do not lose” rubbish), he’ll be ripped to pieces by us fans if we lose, in my opinion.

And in what is the most obvious thing I’ve read in ages, we ain’t selling any of the kids.
Quite right too, as even if we fall foul of FFP, selling any of our youngsters would just be an absolute joke and undermine everything the fans want to see, in kids coming through.
That, plus Green apart, they’ve only had the odd game.
So the links are laughable anyway, as I very much doubt we need the odd million or so that we might get for them.

Cheeky Prem clubs wanting to mop up kids on the cheap from the lower leagues, eh?
Oops, I forgot.
That’s what we’re aiming for, isn’t it?

  1. just to point out before villa played wigan, they had a unbeaten record. this means all preseason drawing Liverpool and scoring 10 goals in another game. I think they won all their games sofar and play Portsmouth this weekend so also played a weaken team. I heard this from wigan fans mocking me before game lol they were confident off turning us over. their boss was angry they lost giving away bad goals for them.

this was a banana skin fixture, but bruce still wanted to play the youth with some other squad players that haven’t seen too many games recently. we have to remember the defeats to Bradford and luton and others in yester years to know these games are easy on paper but never are. didn’t matter what team we played, knowing we won and blooded youth winning should make you all happy. some of these youth will come on quicker for games like these. you cant recreate competitive games like these in reserve football.

bruce has created a competition for places, a hunger once you get the shirt you play for it attitude, we have not had this in years. in past players have been comfy with no threat to their starting place and played like that. now with players fighting off other squad members they are hungry to perform

    1. McCormack to Sunderland once Snodgrass deal done is another move being strongly mooted.

  2. And don’t completely write off a Villa move for Wilshire on loan – Wenger open to ‘offers’ or so the media are reporting today.

Now I suspect this is unlikely to happen but if it did – what a way to wipe the smile of Redknap’s face!

  3. Bit confusing….my man now saying he doesn’t think its an option to buy!…..

I guess he doesn’t have access to that kind of info!

Whatever, its going to be done. Personally, I dont think we would want the option to buy!

  4. Get Wilshere on a loan deal that gives him a brucey bonus if we get promoted! Why couldnt it happen? There doesnt seem to be much interest from other parties at the moment and bournemouth arent rushing to re-sign…id say he would rather come to us than stay in the reserves at Arsenal. Snodgrass is a great deal he was on fire at hull and his set pieces are usually fantastic.

  5. “I am delighted to join. I have had offers from other clubs but it was an easy decision to come here,” he told Villa’s website.

“You see the name Aston Villa with all its history, tradition, fan base and it’s a place you want to come to.

“Seeing it in the Championship doesn’t look right. I want to be part of that journey back up to the Premier League. I am raring to go.”

Last part – easier said than done, but if he’s ready to hit the ground running then this could be a great signing.

    1. And of course the money offered had nowt to do with it.
Pisses me off, this, but quite simply that’s why it’s taken so long 🙁

Simply put, we’ve out-paid everyone else.

      1. Its a loan, surely he is on the same regardless.

Just depends on what % we cover, which would have no bearing on where he decides to go, only which offers west ham accept/reject.

I have no reason to believe he isn’t a driven player just yet 😉

  6. Confirmed team: Johnstone, Elmohamdy, Terry, Chester, Samba, Taylor, Whelan, Hourihane, Onomah, Green, Davis. Subs: Steer, Bree, Lansbury, Bjarnason, Adomah, Hogan, Agbonlahor.

  7. I’m scared about the 3 at the back. It has never really worked for us in the past, but lets hope the front 4 in Hourihane, Onomah, Green, Davis can outscore whatever Bristol does.

Ugh, I knew it! The return of Gabby.

  8. Johnstone
    Chester
    Terry
    Samba
    Elmohamady
    Whelan
    Hourihane
    Taylor
    Onomah
    Green
    Davis

    Substitutes:

    Lansbury
    Hogan
    Agbonlahor
    Steer
    Bree
    Bjarnason
    Adomah

  9. I’d guess Samba is there for back-up for when Terry and Chester get turned.
    Not good though, is it?

    1. Nice one Badger straight into the negative after two consecutive matches with us scoring 4!

Sky sport just shown Bruce will go top of Villa managers win % if win tonight. Appreciate been in championship

    2. Badger – after tonight’s comments you no longer have the moral high ground over Oohah

  10. What a bunch of whingers before a ball has been kicked. Moan about this, moan about that, moan about any fecking thing!

Strangely, (or perhaps not) on here, NO mention of the Snodgrass signing which is a bit of a coup IMO!

      1. Which, I’m sorry, is totally correct and I stand by it!
Why do you think it took so long???

    1. what is great about signing another 30 year old on loan, that has only manged 60 matches in 3 years, another mate for spud ,remember a good spud always has plenty of eyes

  11. Well said Langford if it was not for you and a few others on here you’d think you stumbled across a Samaritans website for Villa fans. FFS be positive and cheer up.thank god you have some positive posts. just a shame it does not rub off on others. UTV.

    2-1 Villa

    1. Rocky….cheers mate, but they CANT break my positivity. But that doesn’t mean I can stand reading all the negative crap on here…..only negative shit about Snodgrass as well!

  12. yeah I don’t see the problem with the formation itself, its how you play it. It can be quite attacking but allow for a solid defence.

It really depends on how much practice the team have had with it, being able to cover your opposite flank, pressure from the front etc. That’s probably what most on here are unconfident about. Plus Bruce has used it before and it generally turns into a deep 541, though you’d hope that was just a symptom of the level of club he was at

Still, we are a little on the ropes at the moment and looks like we’ve changed to 442 with Chester at RB

  13. Starting to press a bit more which is good to see, but Samba may need replacing at halftime for either Bree or Adomah. Davis needs more service.

    1. That Spurs player is a waste of space bey he’s got a play when fit written into contact. Him and Elmo need to come off both awful

  14. We ended the half very well. had a few half chances.

I’d say Bree on for Samba most likely

    UTV

  15. So the three at the back against a lively Bristol attack proved a disaster.
Which part did I get wrong?

We were battered for the first 20 mins,

    Let’s keep things real, chaps.

    1. it was another shocking half badger, changes made for no sane reason, even with 3 centre backs its like they never seen one another before all last gasp clearing

      1. Like I said; let’s keep it real.
They battered us for the first 20, then we got more of a grip,
Still not good enough, but I suspect we’ll re-group and take this.

  16. I have to say. It is the strongest Villa starting line-up I’ve seen for a long time. There’s not a name on there I look at and sigh with disappointment and disbelief! Very rare!

  17. Samba off, Bree on. He just looked off the pace and no real point playing him with Terry who shares the same role.
