Okay, so I called this one totally wrong.
It’s not the first time and it won’t be the last, I can assure you of that.
And while I’m very downbeat after this result, I really think we need to put things in perspective a little.
It would seem we’re still very fragile, although I’m not quite sure why that should be. We’ve got rid of most of the gutless/disinterested culprits and the rest have been condemned to the kid’s string, so they can’t interfere.
But just as we were romping this game for the first hour, so we collapsed as soon as the opposition scored.
Which is the bit I don’t quite understand.
Why do we still seem to have this “bottling” type of mentality? We saw the same against Luton.
It’s a puzzler and I suspect the biggest hurdle that the manager will have to over-come, if we’re to achieve promotion at the first attempt.
I’ve commented on the goalie previously and I’m not going there again, save to say we should get another one in; one with more experience, it’s as simple as that.
I looked at the stats on the OS and it seems we conceded 3 goals with 3 GK errors?
Until I’ve seen the goals for myself, I don’t know. But Gollini is beginning to look like a big liability, in my opinion. Pull the kid, before his confidence is shot too, I say.
I have to say I wondered why we signed him in the first place, as a young goalie is the last thing you want at a club with such high expectations in the Championship.
Expectations, that are going to be our biggest problem.
Ok, we bottled it today, but we romped this game for the first hour and proved that we can dominate for long periods.
Yes, we didn’t get the result, but I can’t help noticing how quickly some have jumped on the bandwagon of slating everything the club has done since Dr Xia took over.
Indeed, it seems there was a fair few who booed the side off the pitch.
I’d suggest this isn’t the way to go and it will only add to the lack of confidence.
Of course, our travelling support is amongst the best anywhere and they’re entitled to voice their opinions.
But I get the over-riding feeling that if we don’t give the team a chance, we’re only going to drive ourselves into a worsening spiral.
It’s still very early days in what’s going to be a long, tiring season.
And while we still look light in certain areas, particularly attack and midfield, the window isn’t over yet and we may still add.
And we do still have a decent squad, which I’d emphasise again, will come into play.
While today was disappointing, I won’t be making any firm assumptions just yet.
These Greeks must enjoy purchasing SHITE any room on the island for shabby????
They must be Vrakas!
I see Kozak, Steer, Are playing at Villa Park in the under 23s against Newcastle so is one of the new boys, we are 3 up in 20 minutes , its live on website.
Kozak 2 goals, half-time now. 3-0
No good doing it in an under 23 game ffs
Kojak weren’t too bad till got injured.
He’s like a statue
He got 3 Oohah, what more do you want? Newcastle hadn’t lost in 3 games Villa hadn’t won. Steer made some good saves.
But can he do it in the first team that’s what counts
4???
Hull expecting 4 players to come in I wonder hernandez deal could still be on
Hernandez to Aston Villa today.
Giddy, this has just come up. An announcement for on a move to Aston Villa for Abel Hernandez in a ‘Championship-record’ deal was something the Villa owner had said on Twitter could be expected today.
The Sun had also reported a £20m bid was made for Hernandez over the weekend with £14m of that to be paid to Hull upfront by Villa who would then pay £3m on add-ons based on ‘promotion achievements’ and a further £3m based on ‘goals and appearances.’
With Villa owner Dr Tony Xia was said to have written on Twitter that the Championship side had been ‘trying whole summer’ to sign the 26-year-old, who has scored 25-goals in 67-matches for Hull since his own club record to City.
Despite these social media claims and redtop reports Sky Sports has today said a KCOM Stadium exit isn’t something we’re expecting to happen with the 26-year-old Uruguayan international at ‘this stage’ of the window.
Will it or wont it?
It seems an awful lot of money for Hernandez, but I think we overpaid for McCormack too, one of these signings had better work as Newcastle are starting to click into gear!
I thought the same about us until Saturday’s game now I don’t know what to think….
I suppose after the transfer window closes we’ll have a better idea.
newcastle paid 3.5m for daryl murphy ,and have gave most of their 11 new signings long contracts
Trouble is hull will play hardball knowing we’re prepared to pay 20 Mil so go for 25,I can see this one going down to the wire.I think the club should look for alternatives & don’t get blinkered on hernandez.
It looks like we are in for Middlesborough striker now. Similar types of players.
Just on BBC 5live we are in advanced talks with Bristol City over Jonathan Kodjia…. intresting
Hull interested in kodjia aswell that could be interesting.
its obvious Hernandez wants out of hull and hull will need a striker.
No deal according to sky, couldn’t agree personal terms.
If they sign him then surely we will get Sanchez. Both sound similar types of player tbh so either would be OK
New striker to be announced within the hour.
That’s fucked hull then??
Been announced welcome Johnny to the villa fold.
BBC confirm that Jonathan Kodija has joined the Villa in a deal worth up to £15 million.
Welcome to the Villa Jonathan!
Sorry to pooh pooh this one and I hope I’m wrong but he looks a dud. Far too pricey given his age and scoring record (apart from last season his scoring record really isn’t all that).
Agree this one worries me. It’s got panic signing written all over it
I wonder if that’s your lot for this window????
Hope not we need a goalie a left bk a winger and another midfiekder
Kodjia…..oh dear o dear.
Have to say disappointed we didn’t get Hernandez but will keep an open mind about Kodjia. Definitely a more risky signing but not going to pooh pooh it out of hand.
Some reports saying we are still in for Morrison.
Has anyone wondered why personal terms weren’t agreed????re hernandez.exorbitant wage demands wouldn’t surprise me I thought we were putting a stop to these mercenary types.if he had come on 80k a week we’d be bleating about the amount he’s on never satisfied
Supposed to have been scuppered by the agents fees….agreed transfer fee and wages.
He’s hulls problem now.
Have to say this one worries me a bit. Hopefully it works out though and he bangs them in. Desperate for midfield player to link up the attack! Then it’s bound to take some time to gel as a team but when we do we will have a really decent squad..I know it’s early doors but promotion may be pushing it a bit this season I think.
Welcome to Villa Park Kodjia, did you ever get the feeling that you have been robbed ,
Why not ask a Bristol city fan that??????
Welcome Kodjia to Villa.
I am not too worried about the cost of our new strike force. It looks like the world has moved on. With the new premier contract it appears to place average strikers in the £20m+ category.
The key rests in two parts for Villa. Firstly, Dr Xia wants players with character and having championship experience. If they have premiership experience this is a plus. This gives me the impression that once out of the championship he will purchase a new high class premier striker. Maybe this will be part funded through new fan base to come from China.
The second part has to be the focus on ensuring out academy players has a higher chance of succeeding. If we can produce a first class striker, it will free up funding to buy a classy play maker. Conversely, if we produce one of them it gives the chance to buy a fabulous defender. And so forth.
The bottom line is we now posses three seekers who can score 60+ goals a season in the championship. It is good that Grealish has contributed 2 so far from midfield. I would expect him to make 10+. I really think this season will come together. Even if it is via the play offs, the team would have gelled and will be very strong.
utv
What we really need is a Gareth Barry type player to knit the team together. That’s what we really lack
Yep he’s offside all the time like benteke and can either be great or crap. Plus we will have Gestede kodijia and Ayew all out in Jan in African cup! Pointless signing imo
Those players could also get injured totally pointless signing/signings the list is endless Dr x how dare you waste money on total SHITE you should be ashamed take a leaf out of Lerners book hold on to your wealth.
Oohah and Giddy
Gentlemen
Football has moved on. We are owned lock stock and barrel by Dr Xia. It is his money to spend. Lerner demonstrated that poor business decisions cost him a minimum of £200+m. So comments like “how dare you waste money” are ill thought out. The waste of money is the contracts Lerner and his team gave Traore, Gabby, Hutton, Bucana, probably equivalent to £175k per week – approximately £9m per year!!!
The comments about offside and is either crap or good. Shock horror, most strikers suffer from these ailments. In my mind I always hold any striker up to ether Peter Withe of Gary Shaw, they both walk on water. My father would tell you Peter McParland could walk on water and my grandfather is still here, would probably make a case for Pongo Waring! However, I am sure they all were offside from time to time; all had poor games and all suffered injuries. But I must admit non of them played in the African Cup.
Lets be very clear Gestede, Kodja and McCormak are proven in the Championship and this is the division we need to get out of. What more do you want? The name Aston Villa is a great one but is diminished by being in the Championship, so we cant buy all the players we would like.
I think I am right in saying we bid £20m for Hernandez (South American Cup commitment) but this broke down due to his / agent fees, now that really would have been a waste of money.
How dare you waste your money was said out of pure sarcasm (taking the piss) I’m sick & tired of slating of new signings who have even kicked a ball for us yet.it’s really starting to fuck me off Dr x is breath of fresh air imo end off
That’s the only one IV slated I’m happy with all other signings except Gollini who should be loaned out as he’s cost us 6 points already. Imagine him v the scum he will make Enklenan look world class
You can go out and buy the best 11 strikers in world football and you ain’t gonna win a game if the balance and service isn’t there and you can’t hold a lead.
Our transfers and targets have imo had a touch of fantasy / fifa football about them but hey ho what do I know?
