Bristol City – Villa: A preview of sorts and thoughts on things going on

Bristol City away should be a banker and straightaway I think it will be; I’ll say that from the start.

That perhaps seems high-handed on my part, but sorry, Bristol fans, I expect to beat your team, it’s as simple as that. You loaned Nathan Baker, who wasn’t deemed good enough for us at the time, after all?
Except many Villa fans thought he was better than that.

I’ve read that Bristol want to buy/loan him, while many Villa fans don’t even rate him.
So what does that tell us?

Well, to me it demonstrates a gulf in expectations.

While I have the utmost regard for Bristol City, I think this is the sort of game we will have to win if we’re going to show any sign that we’re going to be promoted at the first attempt.

It’s difficult to explain what I mean, but if we really rate the Villa as a class apart from the rest of the Championship along with Newcastle, we have to win this game; it’s as simple as that.

Sadly, I don’t think we’re a class apart at all, although it might come in time.

Which is why I’m hoping that we’ll have enough about us to scrape a 1-0 win.
And that’s my prediction.

don’t underestimate the teams like bristol. they just about to sell their main striker. not cause they want too, but they have too. on the otherhand we have been splashing the cash about, snapping up players most championship clubs would like in their squad.

i would like to hear how many villa fans would be willing to swap teams with them, i doubt any would, so really without being a smart ass, villa really should be beating teams like this. norwich and newcastle both managed it.

if i was dr X i would be questioning the signing of the goal.he gives the defense the shits every-time the balls is anywhere near him. 4 million. couldn’t steer have been given a chance. he managed to play a full season in this league and we go out a buy a complete novice. i don’t understand this signing maybe somebody who twitters can ask dr X for me

Problem is bunn and steer are crap too. But our new keeper is learning at our expense then will piss of elsewhere. Stuff that we can’t carry passengers in this division. We need a more experienced keeper with him as an understudy.

Yes potentially he could be a good keeper but we can’t afford to have a keeper learning on the job. He makes to many errors. If a young midfielder makes a mistake we can get away with it when it’s a keeper it’s usually a goal. Can’t afford to have an error prone keeper if that’s the case we may as well have stuck with Guzan what’s the point

Not seen the game so no comment on the performance but looking at the predictions before the game it appears we (both team and fans) are underestimating the teams in this league and until we wake up and smell the coffee and start battling week in week out and lose this big time Charlie mentality this is going to be a regular occurrence.

form isn’t worth much, is it so early. but when you consider their players and ours news before game they are to lose their top man up front. they lost to both norwich and newcastle.

we will see when the league settles down. but i doubt they will be in the top half. going off our results, i really doubt we will be anywhere near the top half. so check mate

As for us I think we’ll be alright but the playoffs look a more realistic possibility than automatic but then again that could depend on how much the Doc’s willing to throw at it?

look around the championship, most teams in this league are financially destitute. burton blackburn all teams are selling. before todays game bristol withdrew their best striker, is reported to be going to derby for 14mill.

be honest how long do you give RDM. i am beginning to doubt him, i never wanted him, the players we bought. except the goalie have been very good. but results are abysmal luton didn’t just beat us they rocked us out of our stride and were easy winners.

I don’t think sacking another manager would solve much, the damage Randy inflicted on the club runs to it’s very foundations.

newcastle have made lots of changes to their squad and 1st team, they are currently on a 3 game winning streak. can’t allow teams to get way ahead of us. this season could continue on, from last season. if we don’t shake off the monkey off our backs

No mate not really, my Baggies mates didn’t rate him at all but then I wouldn’t have gone with any of the usual suspects.
I’d have gone with Warburton or broke the bank to get Eddie Howe, a manager that builds a club from top to bottom, young, enthusiastic, not your journey men.

What’s worrying is we all knew deep down (except for Badger bless him 😄) that 1.0 was never going to be enough. What’s even more worrying is I posted on here just after half time to Badger that we will sit back make an error and they will equalise! That’s exactly what happened. However even more worrying was the way we collapsed after we conceded that goal and even I didn’t see that coming I thought we’d hold on for a draw. It’s worrying because we now how have alleged leaders in the team like Elphnick Chester Jedinek etc where were they? Surely after conceding they were experience enough to clear their heads for 10 mins then go again but they all fell apart too. Also we made the wrong full bk choice we should of bought Yedlin I’m sick of us buying error prone attacking fullbacks RDM has learned nothing

You build teams from the back. I must have written that 5 times in these blogs. If the Keeper plays like that the foundations are cracked and you can build nothing. Number one priority, more important than spending on a striker. Case in point today you would need to buy a guy who scores a hat-trick to win this game 4-3. Have a look at the early Prem table: who is at the bottom? The teams with the worst keepers. Why is Joe Hart on the City scrapheap? Because at the level of Prem winners and CL winners he is the weak link.

At our level we don’t need a Guzan with hair.
