Aston Villa Vs Sheffield United – FA Cup Preview

“I’d rather have three points against Arsenal”  claims Paul Lambert, his recent interview brought a lot of talk in the football world in regards to the importance of the FA Cup. Lambert reckons that it won’t be Villa’s priority this season as Villa may face another relegation battle to come. Still, it shouldn’t be an excuse to lose to an out-of-form League One side, Sheffield United.

All due respect to Sheffield United, but it doesn’t seem as though the FA Cup is much of a priority to the Blades as well but may now come into this game with a bit more confidence. Still expect both sides to make changes.

On a side note, Matthew Lowton will play against his former club for the first time since his £3 million move in the summer of 2011.

Team News:
Jordan Bowery and Nicklas Helenius are expected to be given a chance to impress boss Paul Lambert. Both forwards have had limited game-time but with Kozak out and Benteke expected to be rested, both could be given a crack. Ron Vlaar is a doubt and will be rested and will likely be replaced by the returning Ciaran Clark.

Sheffield United pair, Jose Baxter and Stephen McGinn are doubtful for this FA Cup game. While midfielder Conor Coady will play his last game of his loan spell from Liverpool.

Predicted Lineups:

Steer
Lowton-Clark-Donacien-Bennett
Albrighton-Gardner-Sylla-Tonev
Helenius-Bowery

Porter
Flynn-Doyle-Miller-Murphy-Coady
Hill-Maguire-Collins-McMahon
Long

Predicted Score:
Aston Villa 2-0 Sheffield United

Despite Paul Lambert’s comments I reckon Aston Villa will get the win, plus fans could finally be given a chance to see some our fringe or younger players given a chance. The line-up above does look a little exciting and I reckon all those players would try very hard to impress boss Paul Lambert. Sheffield United will give Villa a game and will definitely go for it, but I just don’t see a cup-set at Villa Park.

I think he knew we would get beat and had his excuses ready made. The guy is clueless he should do the honourable thing and walk preferably the lamberk walk!!

      1. If he knew we were going to get beaten why did he field what was probably his strongest line up, excluding Gabby who (with Albrighton) is actually on form and probably can’t wait to take on Arsenal? From what I could tell from the radio commentary the majority of our attack involved a novel tactic called the ‘long ball’ where someone (usually the goalie) kicks the ball to the opposition defence, occasionally after a touch from Benteke. Hopefully though since it didn’t work this time Lambert might try to find another tactic…
