“I’d rather have three points against Arsenal” claims Paul Lambert, his recent interview brought a lot of talk in the football world in regards to the importance of the FA Cup. Lambert reckons that it won’t be Villa’s priority this season as Villa may face another relegation battle to come. Still, it shouldn’t be an excuse to lose to an out-of-form League One side, Sheffield United.
All due respect to Sheffield United, but it doesn’t seem as though the FA Cup is much of a priority to the Blades as well but may now come into this game with a bit more confidence. Still expect both sides to make changes.
On a side note, Matthew Lowton will play against his former club for the first time since his £3 million move in the summer of 2011.
Team News:
Jordan Bowery and Nicklas Helenius are expected to be given a chance to impress boss Paul Lambert. Both forwards have had limited game-time but with Kozak out and Benteke expected to be rested, both could be given a crack. Ron Vlaar is a doubt and will be rested and will likely be replaced by the returning Ciaran Clark.
Sheffield United pair, Jose Baxter and Stephen McGinn are doubtful for this FA Cup game. While midfielder Conor Coady will play his last game of his loan spell from Liverpool.
Predicted Lineups:
Steer
Lowton-Clark-Donacien-Bennett
Albrighton-Gardner-Sylla-Tonev
Helenius-Bowery
Porter
Flynn-Doyle-Miller-Murphy-Coady
Hill-Maguire-Collins-McMahon
Long
Predicted Score:
Aston Villa 2-0 Sheffield United
Despite Paul Lambert’s comments I reckon Aston Villa will get the win, plus fans could finally be given a chance to see some our fringe or younger players given a chance. The line-up above does look a little exciting and I reckon all those players would try very hard to impress boss Paul Lambert. Sheffield United will give Villa a game and will definitely go for it, but I just don’t see a cup-set at Villa Park.
Shame Grealish is out on loan. I like the look of your team there although I think Bennett is still injured so Luna at LB, and I would expect to see Wiemann start if only because he seems immune to injury and the manager keeps playing him. It would be great to see Gardner getting some game time.
I wasn’t sure about Bennett but you’re probably right. If he wasn’t injured I’m fairly confident that Lambert would’ve replaced him with Luna at some point.
I wouldn’t want to see Weimann start in attack because I’d much prefer to watch Helenius play but if Weimann played on the left that would be fine.
I think that team would lose. Too many changes and too many players with little experience. I would play Weimann down the middle and Albrighton on the right, Tonev on the left with Helenius behind Weimann. Elsewhere I would stick with what we normally play. Having said that my experience in tactics and football management are equalled by my experience of moon landings.
If villa lose today lambert should be sacked after his comments earlier I accuse him of throwing the game
Well, he managed to lose to Bradford 3-0 so anything is possible. I can’t help thinking we only ever score in spite of the manager’s ‘tactic’.
Villa1996, Lambert isnt going anywhere mate, for a looong time. We could lose 16-0 today and he would still get funds to buy the new indian 3rd division top scorer.
It won’t happen lambert is unsackabke I’m afraid he’s achieved his objective of keeping us up so why would Lerner sack him
Fair article, I can see us running out confortably also. 2 to 3-0. If we do struggle Paul Lambert has already covered himself with his midweek comments.
As foxy says above Weiimann is Mr Favorite at VP. Even if he had one leg hed start.
not a bad starting line-up prediction. think Bennett is injured. would like to see donacien. be chuffed if gary gardener got the nod. nice to see him back. I’d like to see both strickers score. I would start benteke. get him scoring, get a couple of goals and try to get a bit of form
Yeah definitely perfect game for Benteke to bag a few goals and take a closer look at the fringe players, notably Helenius and Donacien.
VILLA: Steer, Lowton, Clark (c), Baker, Luna, Westwood, Bacuna, Weimann, Delph, Albrighton, Benteke. Subs: Guzan, Sylla, El Ahmadi, Tonev, Donacien, Helenius, Bowery.
The mysterious Helenius makes the bench. Again.
Hoolahan not in Norwich’s squad today.
Is that Hot Lips from MASH?
No Sylla.. GG.. Helneuis..
Seems strange.. esp after what PL said the other day…
Ffs baker injured in the warm up am i hearing right?it’s fucking getting laughable now.lowton cb?
Tonev on in place.
One nil down 🙁
Here we fucking go.
Wtf and wev a decent side out. Ffs
One down. Arse.
We’re fucking shite, one or two more signings? Bollox & the fucking rest.randolph dust the cob webs off your fucking cheque book chap.
Looks like wev found our level. The ultimate proof our players are league 1 standard at best
Ooha as it stands it’s a fucking embarassment mate.we are piss poor & a half full vp just about sums up what the fans not only think about the fa cup but the current form of the team.pure shite
Agree mate do u no what attendance is
Nah mate 6k blades fans, the commentator just said ‘it looks half full’ that says it all.everytime they go to the game all i can hear are the visting fans.
Probably about 20,000 with 6k of their fans. Joke. We have had 68% possession but they have had 3 shots on target to our none. And that’s with our £25m striker playing. He can’t use lack of service excuse am put cross on his nut just before ht and he headed wide!!
Were going to be humiliated by a shit league 1 team, this is actually worse than Bradford.
Papering over the cracks. We are awful. Why the large attendance? It foxes me why supporters still give Lambert and Lerner the thumbs up every weeks by handing over their hard earned cash is beyond me. And the ‘true’ supporters who go to the away matches regardless, and cheer away regardless only adds to the problem. If Lerner and co see football as a business, then don’t be surprised when punters shop elsewhere.
At least there’s an honesty about the fairweather fan – serve up shit then we’ll stay away. I don’t want Red Bull Villa, or immoral oil money. I do want a club that competes.
Agreed I’m amazed how many people watch this crap every week. Proves the old adage “bullshit baffles brains”
this’ll be quite a really embarassing loss
Mr Invisible scores, 1-1
A new messiah for lamberks lemmings to wank over!!
Hel… who? Scores a goal? For Villa?
Don’t baffle mine Oohah, don’t make no different who he buys it all down to being able to getting them to play, he don’t know how OK 1_1 now helenius
Helenius, gets a chance, gets a goal, lamberts a pillock
The lemmings will be wanking over a 1.1 draw later
Ffs 2.1 to utd lamberk out
Excellent summary, MD8, he really is a prize pillock. That’s Milwall, Bradford and now Sheffield United Lambert has lost to.
Would you believe it helenius,he needs more match time imo.we could get another jacksy result here.we’re still playing shite.
