Ashley Westwood is set to receive a new long-term contract with Sherwood keen on tying down key players to the club. Already this month Clark and Baker have committed new long-term deals and Westwood is next in line. Sherwood has often praised Westwood for his role at the club and Westwood himself compares his play style to Michael Carrick. Westwood might not create too much or score goals, but he distributes the ball well from the midfield and protects the defence well.
Westwood (now 25), joined Aston Villa in 2012 from Crewe Alexandra for a fee of roughly £2 million. He has so far made over 93 appearances for Villa and scored 3 goals for the club.
Tying Westwood to a long-term contract will be a good idea, Westwood isn’t a flashy player but he does his role well. And with a lot of players coming into the club, I reckon it’s important to tie down key players as we need some stability following the sales and departures of Vlaar, Delph, Cleverly and Benteke. Westwood’s current contract expires in 2017
I’ve just persuaded the missus to pack up all our things and head back to Warwickshire I’m going to the game. Bye bye Cornwall off to see the Villa. 2-1 our team.
That’s the spirit Bill!
The thing that really used to depress me about Lambert’s Villa was that there was no fight whatsoever.
I’ve got a feeling that, win or lose, we’ll see a completely different Villa team both literally but more importantly in how we play. We’ve got a new spine that has actually some spine!
Enjoy!
