Aston Villa have canceled Antonio Luna’s contract with Aston Villa and has now signed a two-year deal with Spanish side Eibar. Luna signed for Aston Villa in 2013 for a fee of £1.5 million from Sevilla. He started his Villa career brightly by scoring in his debut in Villa’s 3-1 win against Arsenal on the first day of the season. Since that game, his performances dipped significantly and ultimately lost his starting spot to Bertrand who was brought in on loan for the remaining of the season.
Luna went out on loan to Verona last season where he struggled for game time, and eventually moved to Spezia a Serie B team for the second half of the season. Not a great loan spell in Italy. Perhaps it’s best for Luna who became known as Tony Moon among Villa fans because he clearly isn’t good enough for the Premier League and he struggled to stop many wingers. I can’t necessarily blame Luna for his time here, he just wasn’t good enough and perhaps wasn’t the best of buys by Paul Lambert.

Just like I said last night….our club does not recognise the word ‘HONESTY’……fuck off Lerner, you tightarsed twat….. Here is one less season ticket purchaser! I wont let Lerner take the piss a minute longer.
And you heard here first last night….Delph being replaced by a non -English speaking Senagalese player with FUCK ALL PL experience and who is struggling to get a work permit!
Next up, Benteke….to be replaced by a cheap championship player whilst Lerner runs off with the proceeds of the sales of Delph and Benteke!……have you wondered why the likes of Cole, Senderos and Richardson are still here? Ask yourself the question……the answer is blatantly obvious…..they are the cheap/free players with whom our hopes rest on next season. Mark my words, it wont get much better than that!
Lerner, if still at the helm DOES NOT give a flying fuck about our club, why would he when we are guaranteed a minimum of £99 mil for finishing last, and that looks like a good bet to me.
**********message for Badger*********** yes, this IS me. The positivity is completely gone, probably never to be replaced, or at least whilst Lerner is still around!
So you’re not impressed with the signing of Bunn? 🙂
a player who got into the (relegated) norwich team wow wee!
nothing against delph but what the fuck was we playing at putting an £8m clause in his contract.
yes we fucked up with the 8 mil buy out.
A third rate nobody B6 soon to be playing with a team full of third rate nobody’s
Feel like putting my head in the gas oven……. I’m ‘a very hot cross Bunny’ 🙂
Don’t do it Langford, its not funny, get it Bunn Fun, oh fuck it never mind.
What if Delph was being replaced by a non English speaking Arturo Vidal? (he’d need a work permit too). Would that be ok? Is it that you know nothing about Gueye or that he doesn’t speak English?
Its because he has fuck all experiencd, cant speak English and is very poor replacement for an experienced International and club captain!
How do you know he’ll be poor? I’d love to go back and see the comments on here when we bought Benteke.
Sounds like Delph was destined to go from the minute he signed that deal in January. I didn’t want to believe it but it’s a fact.
Gueye – games for Senegal, 24. Delph – games for England, 6. Does Gueye have the wrong type of International experience?
Does that mean he will be off for African nations cup!
You didn’t realize, we should only be going for Premier League players. Because apparently some fans didn’t learn under McLeish and O’Neill that’s not the way to go, but obviously we should.
But no, Gueye’s definitely a talented player, doesn’t matter if he has Premier League experience or not. Not sure who the hell in the Premier League could replace Delph that we could actually sign.
oh and well done to the marketing team for putting delph upfront with the captains arm band for the kit launch. and the pictures are still up on the website.
what a big club we really are
a shower of fucking muppets
A shower of ‘dishonest fucking muppets’.
Cheers! Yourverygoodelph! I don’t have all the programmes but I am sure there is a Statto reading this blog who can actually look at all the Delph appearances at Villa Park. As far as I know nobody who played more than 50 games for Villa has a worse home game losing percentage in the club’s history, and I think nobody played in more home defeats, ever, than Delph.
So am I sorry to see him go? Hell no, I have called, make that screamed, for his head often enough, since his comical debut against Wigan.
After the Wembley whistle I hoped Sherwood would go in that dressing room and tell nearly all of them they were a bunch of losers and he was going to send them all packing. Still a few to go.
Someone at work was bemoaning us losing the spine of our team meaning Vlaar, Delph and Cleverley (seriously)!!! We haven’t had any backbone for years.
It is time to refresh that starting 11 and it looks like it’s going to happen. It might be painful, but it’s only 10th July.
Gueye has officially signed for Villa now.
What a piss take from the club again…..no sooner than Delph is out the door the OS announce the signing of Gueye ‘subject to visa’….didnt we know this last week FFS. Clearly trying to soften the blow of Delph leaving just like the media knew for the last 2 weeks. No word about Delph on the OS…..make your on mind up on that one! Some BS about his partner having a baby as the reason for not going to Portugal, very convenient me thinks.
Our club is an embarrassment and I’m ashamed of them! I can take defeat after defeat on the chin but taking the piss and dishonesty is too much to take. The cancer in the club is spreading thick and fast….non league football for me from now on!
The Villa are dead!
Told you, the signing of Gueye has been announced, as a sweetener for Delph doing one. The club has become extremely predictable.
Next out will be Benteke THEN the announcement of that French left back whose name I have forgot along with some striker from the Falkland Island league who at the age of 23 has scored 3 goals in 109 appearances!!
3 goals in 109 appearances! Isnt that 2 more than Gabby? 🙂
I’m not sure but it’s certainly prolific compared to our other forwards (Benteke excluded) 🙂
http://newsthump.com/2015/07/10/fabian-delph-looking-forward-to-challenging-for-place-on-man-citys-bench/ made m giggle
Delph is our best midfielder 4 sure BUT he isnt that good, hes the best english midfielder around who isnt gonna cost millions so that City can get there quota of english players.. BUT whu the hell did the club do all that bollocks when announcing the new contract, thats what hurts. Delph is replaceable but the continuos bullshit BIG ClUB coming from the club is embartrising
Delph is no differnt, all that bulls##t about loyalty pisses me off, that’s him pissing him career up the wall, at least he will have plenty of time sitting on his arse. We need to invest in quality, glad gueye has signed, hope the people at villa won’t put in a stupid release clause
Needed a new start
The captains armbands getting like pass the fucking parcel, who next?????
Wilkins?
Probably be vlaar knowing our luck!
DSVilla,
Delph at £8 mill is about right?
Wow. We’re talking about an England Mid here, meaning that’s never right, imo, but probably as good as it gets.
I really wouldn’t be so quick to flog off Benteke and Delph, as they’re currently our best players who will take some replacing.
Yes, we might get lucky and all those 5 signings come good, but what if they don’t?
We’re then left with 5 maybe average players and our two best players gone.
This is not the way to move forward, imo.
B6, I find it difficult to slate Delph for the way he’s gone about things, tbh.
At the end of the day, as many have said, he could have stuck two fingers up, waited it out and gone for way much more cash in his pocket.
But he didn’t, which (if this story is true) means he’s raised the club another £8 mill we wouldn’t have had.
The “loyalty” thing sticks in my throat too, but I very much suspect all that bullshit came from the club and was engineered to give us a boost when things were really bleak.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Delph got paid for that too.
It’s typical of the way Americans work.
What’s more important now, is the sort of deal we can get re; sell on clauses, apps, caps etc.
If we have any leverage at all, that is.
What worries me is the silence from the club.
It’s now blatantly obvious that Delph’s impending fatherhood has been used as an excuse and I suspect the hierarchy have known all about a pending transfer for a while, which suggests Gueye is indeed a replacement for Delph.
So much for our big signing, where we’re all hoping it’s the first of a few.
I’m now doom-laden again at the moment, but it’s still early days in the window.
Cleverly and Heskey played for England means nothing
Badger I wasn’t looking at the Delph fee as a purely English one. I was looking at it from the point of view that £8M will buy a quality foreign midfielder who will probably be better. FWIW I think Gueye will be a better midfielder than Delph (not saying he is the same/direct replacement). I think Delph is worth £8M in a world market (Cabaye at £10M?? Miles better)
The reality is that the squad we had has just avoided relegation for several seasons. We need quality players for the team. Some of them could be bought regardless of the sales of Delph and Benteke, but if we can get a combined £40M for those two and spend it on five £8M players I think we will have a much better team than we have now, particularly when there may be £20M on top of that as well. It’s early days yet (transfer window is 11 days old!!), so it is simply too early for people to call it at the moment.
The other point is that there will be more opportunities for academy players to progress this coming season. That has to be (on balance) a good thing.
I’m hoping for better things this transfer window, and next season. I would rather take that stance and maybe end up disappointed, than write the whole thing off before we’ve even got started. But that’s just me.
Langford, noted mate.
It’s really you.
Your opinion is fair enough (and quite a turnaround, tbh).
But I’m still prepared to give it a bit more time before I start seriously moaning yet.
Gueye for Delph, I can see, at a push.
But Benteke for ???? isn’t going to be anywhere near as easy and that’s where it might get interesting.
You have to say it was still good of delph to sign a contract for what seems the only reason to pay villa back for his injurys because why else would he hav signed it? but my question is why 8 mil? Why not 15mil? Which is roughly realistically what he’s worth being an English international and all and probably their best CM at the moment. Good luck to him but I feel he will play about as much as sinclair did and would be very lucky to get as many games as milner who is a much better player and.more versatile.
8 million was probably his medical bill.
How funny would it be if he failed his medical…..Although I’m sure he’d be welcomed back with open arms by most eh?
Maybe because £8m was what we signed him for.
more like 6m ooh ahh, but who the f knows what the real fees are these days – even at 8m, it could 2019 before we see all of that fee and amortisation, inflation, deflation, assets, write offs… don’t know what that means realistically.
How fucking strange that there is no mention about Cole, Senderos or Richardson leaving….is that our plan for the season?….wouldnt be at all surprised…..pathetic mismanagement again IMO!
The Villa management are capable of more cynical operation that you guess. The squad are in Portugal for hard training. Let us suppose that some of the sick-notes fail to come through it. This will enable the club to pay-off at a reduced rate their contracts – perhaps with some insurance but I doubt it. In all contracts there is a resolution for the situation where a player cannot recover his previous form due to injury, and therefore cannot be included in the team. This is an obvious hazard that affects several players and all clubs.
It is not the case that the player remains on the sick list for the remaining years of his contract at full basic pay. Your three musketeers are in the firing line for this.
I had a feeling watching some clips of Gueye that he looked very similar to Delph! I guess it all makes sense now!
I dont mind Delph leaving, but the whole speech about loyalty a few months back…embarassing all round.
At least we wont lose him on a free though
Think it was obvious the club signed gueye to sugar coat Delph going. No mention of Delph on OS either. Exactly the same next season bottom 6 I’m afraid
You don’t rate Delph, you’ve said it loads of times. Plenty of time to replace / rebuild.
A lot of extreme rhetoric on here from the conspiracy theorists. If only the Villa management were that clever we wouldn’t be fighting relegation every year!
Delph is leaving – so what get over it. Most of you spent last year tearing strips out of him anyway and at least we got £8m rather than f**k all.
Now the Gueye signing is some sort of sugar coated pill; not what was being said when it first became a possibility.
I get it – you hate Lerner and it’s all his fault but the comments are predictable and boring – bit like newsnow really – keep regurgitating the same old b****cks.
Oh well thats his england career over with.. LOL has YaYa toure left city yet? Delph the bench warmer.
I’m not really that bothered, had a few injuries and makes alot of mistakes.
onwards and upwards UTV
Loyalty in football is a phenomenon that disappeared as soon as billionaires were permitted to buy a Premier League club and use it as a play thing. Man City are, what I would describe as ,a similar size club to Villa but I still remember when it was announced that they had been taken over by this consortium, people said that they would be winning trophies before long, and they were right. Now all City, Chelsea and Liverpool do is flash the cash and players come running. No longer does it matter to a professional that I would give anything to have an ounce of talent in order to get paid for playing the game I feel myself falling out of love with. It is wrong just to blame individual players, we would all take more money if offered. It is the pretentious attitudes they have when they start kissing the badge and making stupid statements like “This is my club”
It is no longer about the towns and cities of Manchester, London, Liverpool or Birmingham. It just so happens that a collection of players from various parts of the world are being paid lots of money to play their football in Manchester etc. At least with Franny Lee as chairman, or the much hated Peter Swales, you had people who had the club at heart. City will finally buy the Champions League, which is itself a joke. I am old fashioned and proud of it, despite only being 48. A club should be full of local players who want to die for the cause and not some foreign player who will go to the highest bidder. And if your club were good enough to win the league, they would represent you in the Champions Cup of Europe like we did in 1982, where the word Champions meant something, not 2nd, 3rd or 4th. So, for me we are better off with the likes of Delph, Benteke, Vlaar and Cleverley . I am in no way a fan of Randy Lerner, he is just like any other foreign owner. He has no respect for the tradition of the club. You only have to look at Vincent Tan changing over a hundred years of tradition at Cardiff by converting the main colour from blue to red and also the club badge from a bluebird, their nickname, to a dragon. Not forgetting the owner of Hull City who wants to change the name to Hull Tigers. If we start going down the route of names like American gridiron ( I refuse to call it football) teams then that is it for me, you are welcome to it all. I suppose there will be those who want Lerner to go and hope we are bought over by our own billionaire consortium. That for me on ly makes the rich in the game get richer and us poor fans pay the price.Okay……end of rant.
Mark…thats a great post mate. It sums up my feelings perfectly. Its non-league football for me now.
FABIAN DELPH IS A FUCKIN RRRAATTT ,even sky sports are showing the interview he did a few months ago so i believe they even think the same .Dirty prick how the fuck did we allow him to get a shitty 8 million release clause .
Can’t blame Delph for leaving, but who the hell sanctioned the £8M release clause, if Benteke’s is £32.5M surely Delph’s should be at least £16M. It annoys the hell out of me how underrated he is by fans on here, I think once he settles at City he may surprise a lot of the naysayers, he’s a big loss for me. If fatty Faulkener had sanctioned this measly clause I’m sure we’d all be up in arms!
Dave C….spot on mate! Its yet another example of mismanagement. The club is shambolic in every way, a total embarrassment!
we are all embartised
I might be wrong but didn’t Delphi sign a new contract with 6 months to go or something like that, which would have meant his agent could put whatever clauses in the contract he wanted because 8 mil is better than 0 mil. What amazes me is why someone thought it was a good idea for him to front the kit launch, adjusting the captains badge (or maybe he was actually taking it off).
He’s a great player and will be a massive loss, but he’s fucking crazy it he thinks he’s doing the right thing for his career . He’ll get the odd game here and there, but he’ll languish on the bench and may even miss out on a place in the England squad because of this. I’m just amazed that Sinclair and Richards didn’t sit him down and warn him away from man c. Well you reap what you sow Delph………
Delph ‘this my club, I want you to know that there is still loyalty in football’………..what I WONT say is there is a £8 mil release clause in my contract which makes it certain that I will leave in the summer! Just as bad as Downing IMO!
This is what pisses me off, the 8mil release clause. He also made a fool of himself with the loyalty bullshit. Let him warm the city bench, and we as Villa fans move on.
