Villa – Man U Preview

Heh, I do love it when I sneak out of work early, especially when it’s to watch a game.

Onto the serious stuff though and so much for Lambert giving us a surprise. It’s exactly the team we probably should have expected, with no Grealish or Robinson on show.

While part of me thinks it’s probably the best side he can select, it’s not very bold is it?
Let’s see what happens, but if we get a drubbing, expect me to be moaning that the manager should have changed it up a little.

Aston Villa: Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar (c), Okore, Clark, Cissokho, Sanchez, Delph, Weimann, Agbonlahor, Benteke

Subs: Given, Bacuna, Herd, N’Zogbia, Robinson, Grealish, Calder

Manchester United: De Gea, Jones, Carrick, Evans, Valencia, Fletcher, Mata, Rooney, Young, RvP, Falcao

Subs: Lindegaard, Blackett, McNair, Rafael, Di Maria, Januzaj, Wilson

Even though I’ve heard a few neutrals say they think United are vulnerable at the back, I’ll go for a 2-1 loss.

    1. Playing himself into jan window nicely. Does anyone think we will hold on. Bet we will just sit back and hang on for dear life now

        1. My friend at VP she says we’ve done well but can’t see it lasting. We all know utd will bang a couple in at some point even if it’s 2 in last 10 mins. We need 2 more goals for win and one more for draw imo.

            1. Ha ha no bill. Wish we had the chelsea squad playing second half for us they know how to defend a slender lead lol

      1. We’ve been 2 up a few times and hammering them yet we still end up losing or drawing. One goal is nowhere near enough for win they will score at some point guaranteed. I think it will end 2.1 to utd

    1. Pretty obvious I think we all knew deep down. Typical villa. They will go on and win easy now but good while it lasted

  1. Great polnt could of nicked it in the end. I taught the flood gates where going to open. Well done Villa.

  2. Brian Little said that Agbonglaor should have gone for late kick…its what he always does and was caught out this time…….now we can be without him and give someone else a chance……great to see Leandro on and Benteke was telling him off for cocking up the pass in the last minute….it was a middle ball…no good for either attacker. Guzan will be next suspended as he cant keep his trap shut……must have a t least 4 bookings by now.

  3. When are refs going to a) show consistency – why red for gabby only yellow for blackett? (Ditto Cahill last week)
    b) realise that such big decisions are game changers – he needed to be 100% and there was no way he could have been sure.
3 very dodgy reds for us have cost us players out of 9 games this year – joke!

  4. totally agree RW

dodgy refereeing cost us again, how could gabby get a red for what was 50/50 coming together, no malice, just a piece of shit (young) and gabby going for the ball, clumsy at worst yellow card.

benteke was awesome scare the shit out of utd defenders, i though utd started the second half strongly but other than this we were comfortable and should have won at the death. bacuna showed glimpse of form when he came on, clark, orkore and weimann i thought were also strong 🙂 1 point will do

  5. Heroic stuff from the 10 men! Really committed defending against the odds.

It will take the slo-mo on MOTD to sort out the sending off – I could not detect the late kick that “villaaway” mentions. It looked like a strong but fair tackle on TV – but seen once in real time. However the Blackett challenge looked at least as bad so it seems to be another big team benefit decision.

Most interesting comment was that this forces Lambert to play without Agbonlahor. True, but the timing could not be worse since we are without several other players. Lambert does have his bum-boys who are on the team sheet every week no matter how bad they were last time out. However when forced to find other players they have sometimes shown up well. Lambert never seems to try a change without being compelled to make it.

  6. OohAh….. I though you comments about the lilihood were clear and concise. 100% wrong but clear and concise!!! Great stuff and we should have knicked it. UTV

  7. Yep that will do me, it will also give the lads confidence on other matches ,interested on seeing game tonight, as I’ve said gave my seats away. Not the next I won’t.

  8. ORIGINALLONDONLION……it was Mr Little that said it was his trailing leg that caught Young……just seen it on MOTD…..50/50….

    1. Seen on MOTD from behind Young (the opposite view to the ref) it is clear that Young tackles Gabby, not the other way round. There is no movement by Gabby that is inconsistent with his attempt to get to the ball first (fails) or block the ball in the most probable direction that Young will play it (half succeeds). No injury or violence to Young in the impact between the two players can be attributed to Gabby more than it is to Young himself in the way he went for the ball. It isn’t even a foul let alone a sending-off offence.
