Villa 1 – 0 West Ham; Safe surely?

After having been extremely lucky (and crafty) for quite a while now, I wasn’t able to wangle getting away from work early enough today.
Hence I only managed to see the last 10 minutes or so and can’t really comment about the match at all.
All I know is that Cleverley got the goal, which makes it three in three games. He’s certainly staking his claim for a contract, isn’t he?

But never mind missing the game though. Having seen today’s results I’m now convinced we’re safe for another season, as while I can see Hull getting at least something at Spurs, I just can’t see them getting anything against Man Utd. Either way, I don’t see them getting the required four points for them to overtake us on goal difference.
And that’s if we don’t get another point, against Southampton away or Burnley at home, which I think we will.

Again having looked at the results, I quite simply have to take my hat off to Leicester, who have won an amazing six out of their last seven games.
When you consider all the stuff that went on with Pearson just a few weeks back, it’s a great story.
And when you add in the fact that they’ve apparently doubled their points tally in the last month, well….
They deserve to stop up, in my opinion.

Enough of Leicester though and no doubt some of you will be telling me we aren’t mathematically safe yet and that would of course be correct.
I’m still very confident we’ll survive though and the thought of Sherwood getting next season and a chance to add some of his own players is a very interesting one.

Excellent crowd today as well….39,234! Just shows that people will turn up if you play attacking football.

Got to say, cant help but love Super Jack Grealish. No one can handle him, he’s like a breath of fresh air. Thats 4 or 5 games on the bounce where he’s made internatiinal defenders and midfielders look like mugs. Last week he sat Jagielka and Stones on their arse. This week it was the turn of Song of Barca….fucking magic Jack!

    We will NOT be relegated!

    How expectations have changed!
Three months ago we were mostly wondering where we’d get another goal from, or the next single point; now we don’t just expect to pick up points, but we’re actually expecting to beat almost any team we play against…
On top of that the posession, chances-created and attempts-on-target stats in recent games now look like those of a team in the top six or seven, not one that’s still fighting the drop.

Is it just a fluke, or is Sherwood the Messiah?

Sherwood talking to BBC being asked so you would be happy with one more point? No he said I want the both games, now that’s a manager Oohah. I see Abonglahor was showing his form, first second on the pitch lost the ball, then on tried to use pace with little room to move, motm was Grealish ran his heart out for the team.

OLL…very funny mate. I have only been to Loftus Road once….when they had that awful plastic pitch. The stadium looked just like a subbuteo model. It doesnt look as if much as changed…apart from that dreadful pitch of course!.

What a chance Lambert missed to make good name for himself at a big club, as the players are virtually the same under Sherwood. I think he feared relegation too much so was overly cautious! Must add though, that he signed most of those players on duty yesterday for little money. For that, we should be grateful IMO! We definetely have a top 10 team!

We have to win. The spot that previously went to the runner up goes to the next highest team in the league instead. Personally, I think our aim should be to win our remaining two games in the league and then go into the cup full of confidence believing we can beat Arsenal. Why not?!

It would be great to win the FA cup. But that Europa Cup I don’t think any premier team wants to take part in it. Teams that are involved in it normally have a bad season

That’s true, but players seem to want it.
I personally think it involves too many games and they ought to cut the numbers down.
But I’d still like us to be in it.
Even though many will probably disagree.

Admittedly the current ‘league’ version is too long-winded compared to the old knock-out UEFA Cup, but I’ve always enjoyed European teams coming to VP in midweek under the floodlights, and I still think that for many-particularly younger – players the experience of playing against some completely different styles and individuals is great education.

Why would you want us to get knocked out first round? Villa playing obscure teams will be far more entertaining than half the boring sides in the Prem. It’s also great football, been watching a lot of Europa League/Uefa Cup games for years.

I personally miss watching Villa in Europe and think Sherwood’s style of pace plus attacking would do really well. Plus if we bring back a host of loan players we do have a relatively large squad. Though I expect most of those to be sold, we will sign players.

Not really, a season like Everton’s currently would make for an entertaining season. Did quite well in the Europa League + are safe in the league, Sherwood’s a better manager than Martinez. Players obviously want CL football but we have no chance of getting that through the league.

        Small squad?

        3 keepers (Given, Guzan, Steer)
        3 RB’s (Hutton, Bacuna, Lowton)
5 CB’s (Vlaar, Okore, Clark, Baker, Senderos)
        2 LB’s (Richardson, Cissokho)
5 CM’s (Sanchez, Delph, Cleverley, Gardner, Westwood)
        2 AM’s (Cole, Gil)
        2 RW’s (Weimann, N’Zogbia
2 LW’s (if we get Sinclair permanently which I hope we don’t, Grealish)
4 Strikers (Bent (if he re-signs), Gabby, Kozak, Benteke)

28 players is not a small squad.
Not too mention Bennett, Robinson, Donacien and anyone else he considers worthy enough back from loan.
        Not too mention any signings.
Sales being Weimann and probably Gil with Vlaar leaving on a free at most currently.

And you should really watch the Europa League, great football. If you’ve never watched, how the hell does it bore you? Doesn’t make sense.

I get the excitement of the Europa League, but it is 32 games to win the competition. That’s a potential 70-80 game season (OK I don’t expect we could win it). Many teams seem to suffer through injuries and fatigue. There is a downside to being involved, but I would still like the chance to see a few european games.

32? I’m not quite sure where we’d start, but it’s 15 from the group stages, 6 there, then 2 in the round of 16, 8, quarter’s, semi’s which is 8 more, then the final which is 1. Unless we’d start in the 1st qualifying round, we wouldn’t need 32 games.

Hope we win the FA CUP and then reach 40 points, I remember when Sherwood first came he said he wouldn’t rest till he gets us above 40 points, who believed he could actually do it then?

After that, Benteke will resign, Cleverly will sign (he’s been brilliant under Sherwood) and our core will stay.

Enter Europa and a good Europa run and a top 10 finish next season
