Yes, Yes, Yes; We’re up

Poor game, I thought, but hey, it doesn’t matter.
We’re back in the big time.
Thoughts to follow.

  5. Bloody brilliant. Thought I was gonna collapse in those 7minutes.
Championship has been surprisingly exciting. But can’t wait to make our stamp back in the Prem.

I still can’t quite believe it. With Smith running the show we’ve got some backbone and kept them out at the end. Credit to Derby for making a game of it.

WE’RE BACK! A GIANT HAS AWOKEN.

See Jack’s boots? Hey I told you we would do it. 😂😂😂😂😂

Also noticed how happy our new owners Sawiris and Edens looked, let alone Prince William. Just think one day the King of England will be a Villa fan 😉

    What a day!

John McGinn just said that he ‘going to get steaming’. I think I’ll join him.

Can I be honest lads, the last 10 minutes I hid behind my door, I couldn’t watch, but now I’m good. We are back where we belong….motm? Mcginn he worried players and given Grealish his chance for England team,

Massive congratulations to everyone involved, from the owners to the players.

But a special mention to Dean Smith. Many doubted him when he came in and after Christmas. I can’t resist a little gloat, but when people were questioning his record when he came in, I remember making the point on this site that the difference at Villa is ‘expectation’, and he said exactly that in his post match interview.

So let’s EXPECT this great club to compete in the upper reaches in the Premier League.

    UTV!!! 😀

I don’t know about you, but there seems to be a lot of love in the club at the moment between the players and staff. A lot of affection! A great basis for stepping up. Gotta make sure we keep our loan players on board now!!!!!

Massive thank you to our owners who gave us a big lift when we needed it in the summer. Massive thank you to Dean Smith and his staff who not only got us promoted but playing with style. Massive thank you to our players who have brought back a real connection between them and our fans. Already looking forward to next season and keeping hold of Jack, John, hopefully Tyrone, Axel, Anwar and Tammy. UTV!

    Fantastic result.

Just thinking about the emotional roller coaster of the last few years. The moment it started to go wrong, O’Neill’s capitulation in Moscow. Disinterested owner, managers going through a revolving door and players who did not live the club.

    And now:
    The manager a Villa fan
The Villa Captain a Villa fan
The owners not only rich but experienced in the sporting world
    A CEO with Premier experience.

Stick with this core and Villa could become a force in the Premier again over time.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said? Bill for you the good times are back and you so deserve them – enjoy.

We’ve had a brilliant afternoon together as a family supporting our beloved Villa – and that’s what makes Villa great – it’s family which now includes the royal seal of approval. When you join the Villa family it’s hard to let go – ask John Carew! Welcome Tyrone, Axel, Tammy, Courtney and Amwar – you’ll never ever experience a better club.

So on to a new premier league adventure. Back where we belong with new owners committed to the future of our club, a brilliant young manager and a brilliant young captain.

Just read that Smith says we have a “matching” option over Mings. That’s good news. He is a leader on the pitch, fast, strong and reads the game well. Axel would be nice as well. We have Guilbert coming in (hopefully an upgrade) but need another quality full back. I’m not sure about Abraham. His goals have been crucial but I’m not convinced he is Prem material.

Keeping Grealish would be great and is obviously more likely now.

What do you all think about what we need for next season?

    1. Hitchens60 avatar
      Hitchens60

Most important first DS is that we keep the nucleus of, what I think, could be a very good team. We should also remember that Chester will be back next season and he’s a quality CB. We also have Elphick so if we could sign Mings, Tuanzebe and Hause think central defence would be OK..

Must keep Grealish and McGinn and as indicted above would love to add Mings and Tuanzebe. I would also make El Ghazi’s loan permanent as I think he will do well in the Prem.

With you assuming Fred Gilbert is a prem quality RB then we need a new LB, a new defensive and a new creative mid (would keep Lansbury) and a top quality striker (I agree with you over Abraham although I would have him and Kodjia in my squad). We also need a right winger – I love Uncle Albert but his time is done and Green isn’t (yet?) good enough.

Those to go – Hutton, Jedinak, Whelan, Bjarnasson – all with our thanks – Hogan, Uncle Albert, Gardiner, McCormack (and any other wasters hanging around like Richards), Bree and Nyland (as I suspect Kalinic and Steer will compete for GK position).

      Who have I forgotten?

      1. Bum Bum avatar
        Bum Bum

Who’d have thought that our farewell to Hutton would be one with the greatest respect? After being treated abysmally in the bomb squad, when he came back he always gave his best, and as a fan that’s all we really ever ask for. Cheers to the Scottish Cafu!!!

        1. DSVilla avatar
          DSVilla

Agreed. he had his shortcomings, but always gave 100% and I never heard him badmouthing the club or manager even when in the bomb squad.

I agree Hitch that the core of the team is capable of premier league although that includes quite a few loan players. Grealish and McGinn are the two that we ‘own’ who most agree should do well. I think Steer deserves an opportunity and also Hourihane one who can play at a higher level. I would be delighted if we can keep all our loan players but we need to improve at LB and RW. I agree with the ones you said should leave and Elphick will be one of them too I think. We have got Chester who if we don’t get Tuanzebe would do well alongside Mings, assuming we can now sign him. The owners will allow Smith funds I’m sure and I believe will be spent wisely. I would like Maupay regardless of whether we get Tammy to offer something different. It’s going to be an interesting summer when the transfer window kicks in. Until then though….let’s enjoy the moment.

  22. Pat 57 avatar

Yes we should enjoy the moment but it’s worth noting that Smith’s planning for the Prem started as soon as we qualified for the play offs so he probably knows exactly what he wants.

I just hope we don’t do a Fulham and go overboard with too many new players. I can’t see it happening but still. We have the core of a decent Prem team and we just need a few new players and then add to the team gradually as time goes on.

I see Jack, McGinn, Mings, Hourihane, Tammy, Tuanzebe and possibly Hause, Steer, Kodjia and El Ghazi as good enough for the Prem. So we have the spine of the team and I wouldn’t mess with that.

I trust Smith to do the right thing. Still can’t quite believe it though.

Thank the lord Jesus we giants of Aston have returned to our rightful place. 3 long years out in the cold. Living in korea it’s been 3 years of shite streams as they don’t show lower tier on Telly here. But now my weekends of joy are back. UTV!!!

South Korea always seemed like a nice place to me!!! 😁

  24. loved grealish interview where he said, he wanted the whole squad to get the same accolades and appreciation because they were important. how he wanted chessie to lift the cup with him, shows great maturity and signs of a great player to see the bigger picture. its a team game not all the top players grasp that, thats why they never become great players.

i also liked how he deceived tammy into believing he would return from injury faster than he know he would. thats shows he and the other players motivating each other to improve and win

i loved yesterday, reading and seeing the pics from all of our fans, marching their way down to wembley, cheering our boys home with the cup and promotion.

el ghazi man of match for me, player of the season is a tight one. but i think mings has been outstanding and we should push the boat out and make him permanent.

lastly i wonder if grealish slept with that playoff trophy. i know i would lmao roll on the premiership, bring on the likes of pool and city test ourselves against the best we deserve too
