Xia rejects second bid, why? And be careful what you wish for

I’m currently on holiday in Gran Canaria and cutting a long story short, can’t get any WiFi via the hotel.
Fortunately, thanks to 3 mobile’s excellent “Feel at home” benefit, I can get online via my phone.
Unfortunately, I’m rubbish at typing on a phone and find it really tedious, so forgive me for quite a bit of cutting and pasting, courtesy of the Birmingham Mail.

First, Xia apparently outright rejected a £30mill bid for 30% of the club, which on the face of it, is a decent proposal.

“Of course there were some proposals of their own.

One of those was to sell star performer Jack Grealish for no less than £40m – and use all of the incoming funds as operating capital”.

I’d guess that was because it just isn’t enough money.

Next, if the Mail are to be believed, he has now turned down a second offer for 51% of the club, although there’s no mention of how much money is involved.
I’d guess that either the valuation is too low or that the bid required Xia to pump some of his own money into the club, which he just can’t do.

The good news is that it seems both parties were willing to make heavy investments.
And there are still other interested parties.

I personally now wonder what Xia wants and I suspect it’s a total sale.

Hence I reckon we’re going to be looking at new owners and the “investor” part is a bit of a smokescreen.
Which might be a good thing, but we all know there are plenty of shysters out there.
Talking of which, Xia has been censured by the Shanghai stock exchange for claiming to have sold a company to someone.
Nowt wrong with that, but it seems that the “someone” was another of Xia’s own companies and that part wasn’t stated.
That’s tantamount to downright fraud and shows Xia in a really bad light.
It’s probably another example of how desperate Xia has become and puts the lid on the “not able to get money out of China” talk.
The story comes from a new site, Villaleaks.com.
I’d love to know who’s behind that.
Who has the agenda to want Xia in trouble and knows the right sort of places to look, I wonder?

I now sadly believe that regardless of the risk of selling to yet another owner we don’t know, Xia has to go.
The trouble is, we might get yet another totally opaque Chinese owner.

On a brighter note, it’s been a great World Cup up to now, hasn’t it?

  1. I love it ììììì love it we can still smile and joke when the sinking ship goes down.
JVillan and Nath are they the new Mike and Berney winter’s, or even Laurel and Hardy of today. What ever, we will fight them on the beaches we will never surrender, the battle has just began. Up the Villa.

    Indeed Bill.

Let’s not let things get nasty, gents.
Different views, but we’re all on the same side, eh?

Badger honestly think you should ban JV for life. He’s never around when anything good happens but when the shit hits the fan he’s there licking it all up and calling anyone who has deep feelings about the club ‘knobs’.

He’s a troll, a div and probably a nose to boot.

i have been on here since before badger/oohah took over this site, and what good has happened to villa for 7/8 years,i put up post xmas 2016 about bruce and have been proved right that he is a waste of space as a manager and only ruins clubs ,nath has called me far more names than me him ,i replied to badger yesterday and nath buts in ,acting like the child he is ,ban me i dont care its not worth posting on here lately

no badger they are not, nath can come on here and regularly call names and you never have pulled him on it,trying to makeout he all pally with giddy and that there was some sort of trouble,it was one comment and not one i am sorry i said

      1. you never said you were sorry. you are a liar i can tell everyone, what you said. it doesn’t matter if i was pals with giddy or not. it was principles what you said to another poster or person was damn low. good job we wasn’t in person or i would have shown you, how out of order that was. so man up and shut up lying

    Point taken, Pat.
It’s difficult trying to decide who’s a troll while trying to keep both sides of the debate going.
I do my best not to take one side or the other, even though I have strong views myself.

But yes, calling fellow Villa fans “knob” is out of order.
Hence I’m hoping that JV desists and Nath doesn’t rise to it.

I’m tempted to say it’s only a game, but what was it Shankly said? 😀

“It’s difficult trying to decide who’s a troll while trying to keep both sides of the debate going.”

Just simply filter and look at all JV’s posts one after the other. You should find it quite revealing.

    Hitchens60,

On a completely different tack I see the Colombians plus ‘the hand of god’ are complaining about the referee being biased towards England! I suggest they stop being poor losers and watch the game again. If anything, the ref was IMHO fairly lenient towards some of Columbia’s dirty tactics and downright cheating. They were lucky to finish with 11 men.

The only disappointing aspect for me was that England didn’t really play that well – still it’s the result that counts. Now where have I heard that before LOL!

    1. Badger123 avatar
      Badger123

      Absolutely, Hitch.
Dirty, cheating bastards, who constantly stuck the knee in from behind and grappled with our players, like it was rugby.

Granted, we resorted to similar, much to my dismay, but it was only retaliation.
Young lads will only stand so much and I thought they’d done well not to react earlier.

Typical sour grapes from a dirty side, trying to win at all costs imo.

      But yes, we were poor.
We should have the beating of Sweden, but we don’t take our chances and I think Southgate is a tactically awful manager.
Very much like Bruce, fwiw, in “chuck extra attackers on”.

      1. Pat 57 avatar

It’s hard to play good football when your opponents are being so sneaky and underhand. However the major plus point for England is that we kept our heads. Something similar (although not as bad) happened when Beckham got himself sent off. This didn’t happen and I think that the team deserve the win just for that alone.

At least against Sweden we’ll be playing against a proper team and we’ll finally get an idea how good we are.

To my surprise I’m quite optimistic.

      Originallondonlion

You mean that washed-up, drug-addled, fat, arm-ball player who appears in the shirt of England’s opponents and collapses with excitement when they score?

I thought he was a clown provided by FIFA to do a distraction routine while play is suspended for an injury. Don’t tell me he used to play the game?

  5. Have to agree Hitch, Fifa should slap some sort of fine on them, what’s the use of var if you don’t abide by the rules of the game, on a lighter note does anyone noticed how many ex players or players that in someway connected to our famous club Aston Villa.for example England have 4 , then search other countries, its a sorry state that we have given the world and fighting now to survive , just a thought.

  7. Holte66 avatar
    Holte66

I quite enjoy the suspense created by VAR. In the duller games it’s been the only form of entertainment. Considering it’s still in its infancy, I think it’s working well in most cases. On the topic that is AVFC I find it a bit odd that someone like Steve Round can be sacked, yet players can get away with murder because of contracts. Gabby for example should have been sacked when he was not fit for matches plus all the piss taking by McCormack and Richards at the clubs expense. I wouldn’t be in my job for too long if I took liberties. Once upon a time when football was great, the clubs had control and now it’s the players. Great story when Morley couldn’t get out of training when his house burned down. I miss Sir Ron.

  8. yawn yawn yawn

jvillan name calling is your expertise not mine. i react to shit not pre empt it. you still haven’t apologised to giddy for saying stupid things about his family. mindless and senseless nobhead. well i will give you shit as long as i can be bothered too. if i get banned, then i will just go on the bluenose website and see you there.

what have you ever contributed to this site any ways, i can honestly say i never seen anything you posted that hadn’t got the manager being slagged down in it. then you set upon anybody who might want to post something constructively positive.

  9. i said grealish would go to spuds and was called names lmao this was long before the stories came. looking on the fake news sites tonight, they saying 20 million has been agreed. well if that is true we have sold our soul for peanuts,

i really can not see anything, but a long miserable season if grealish goes. we will be following sunderland down for sure. 20 million is bullshit amount, players half as good as grealish, defenders and goalies are going for 10 to 15mill. grealish is a special player than unlocks defences. runs at players with quick feet plus has good imagination and vision,

  10. Badger123 avatar
    Badger123

Don’t rise to it Nath 😉

Regardless, you’re right; £20 mill for Grealish is a joke.
    It won’t happen, imo.

That’s not the game at all.

    1. Saddened avatar

IMHO the only reason Grealish hasn’t gone already is the stupid Dr can use him as a bargaining tool – lets hope were are sold soon, as this has turned into a nightmare.

        Badger123

        Agreed, Saddened.
Big bargaining chip, that makes a difference
Anyone who sells him will be frowned upon from the off, imo.

Haha, I’ve just seen the JG stories and my opinion says they’re BS.

  12. marvin avatar

The only way I can see Xia selling Grealish is if he can’t offload the club, which according to reports yesterday didn’t seem to be the case… sounds fishy especially for 20m. Plus didn’t the American group who was turned down but was considering returning specifically added a 40m price tag for Grealish in negotiations? Buyers see his value, so why wouldn’t Xia?

    1. Hitchens60 avatar
      Hitchens60

Marvin, I’m not as convinced. The Dr. Is hanging on by his finger nails and £20m would solve a lot f his cash flow problems and buy him time. In desperate times, desperate men do desperate things. I truly hope that I’m wrong.

      1. if i am honest with myself i have to agree with hitch. i see bad things when i think what might happen to villa. xia is making rash decisions and in my experiences that will lead us to nowhere good. he has removed the football experts who might try stand up to him. so he is free to do what ever he likes unopposed

  13. i hope you guys are correct on this grealish affair. he certainly is our only bargaining tool left to sell our club. xia is making strange decisions like wanting to offload 51% shares and then refusing to sell them, he had to take out loans against our future not his own, to pay taxes and monthly debts.

he wants to sell the shares, but only to the chinese or is it non american. if i was desperate to sell a business which was losing me money, i would sell to first real secure offer that landed on my table. we are in a very difficult predicament. like marvin says if he cant sell the shares quickly to generate money, he will start selling players like grealish to generate that money to run the club on, therefore this is a reason we wont get decent offers for players, spuds will just wait for xia to get desperate, most buying clubs will do this.

new buyers will give us the security of new money, to pay our bills and drive harder deals for our players, as they lower wages and running costs at the club, that should be the priority. not selling our only real assets for peanuts.

    1. Hitchens 60 avatar
      Hitchens 60

OLL’s take, supported by the recent Mirror article I posted a link to, has Xia as a front man for a number of Chinese investors. These guys want a return on their money and would be calling the shots. I suspect they don’t care a toss about what happens to AVFC

Concerns have been voiced about new owners asset stripping the club. Don’t worry about them, worry about our existing owner(s) already doing it.

I’m getting more despondent by the day

  14. Hitch everyone that could see what about to happen been saked, the writing on the wall now I wish we had a leader to rise up and challenge this so called owner before its to late. I’ve even thought what if everyone at Villa walked out to show their discontent on what going on. It wouldn’t work would it.I’m so eat up its killing me slowly.

    1. Hitchens60 avatar
      Hitchens60

Dan Donachie – chief medical officer now leaving the club. It’s get out before it’s too late!

      1. Hitchens60 avatar
        Hitchens60

And apparently Sheffield Utd are in the frame to sign Hogan on loan so Nath will probably get his ‘wish’ for us to use resources at our disposal namely McCormack and probably Tshibola as well.

The only other ‘news’ I can find is that it looks like Grealish is Spurs bound – it’s only about extracting an extra £10m out of Levy – we’ll good luck with that then.

    1. Hitchens60 avatar
      Hitchens60

As I think I previously said somewhere, no one to run the club, no manager and no team. What will the EFL do if they conclude Xia is unlikely to be able to finance the club is unwilling to sell and we will not be competitive?

  16. Saddened avatar
    Saddened

They are leaving the sinking ship and who can blame them.

The Doctors evil plan is to get as much cash back for his investor chums as possible and remove anyone who is in his way – He’s a f***ing Dictator of a house off cards….. I’m Gutted !!

  17. marvin avatar

Now, unlike Grealish, I can see Xia selling Hogan or Kodjia without fear of destroying a takeover bid. Both were more or less fringe players last season and if reports are to be believed players we still owe other clubs for. Personally I rate them both, but if I’m honest if the club can at least get their money back I wouldn’t be really upset to see them move on. Who knows maybe Bruce will give Davis a chance.

According to NewsNow there’s an open letter from Xia on the Official site – the problem is that it appears to have crashed!

Now the synic in me is very suspicious but perhaps 50,000 Villa fans are all trying to access the site simultaneously?

Oh well, suppose I’ll just have to be patient!

  19. It seems Grealish is now in Portugal for 8 days with the team, what’s going on?
First he’s going now he’s in training with 22 others, its a most confusing situations to me.whats this chink up to playing silly sods and annoying fans.

Having read it, I have no idea what to make of it.

Either there has been a completely misleading media storm or the owner is delusional.

    Answers on a postcard pleased.

    One confused fan

  22. marvin avatar

In short, Xia is saying there is no problems at the club, refuses to sell up, and Bruce is now charged with the thankless task of selling players.

    1. Hitchens60 avatar
      Hitchens60

Thanks Marvin, glad you understand it!

      1. marvin avatar

The whole letter sounds rambling and jumps around. What I find odd is how the club no longer has immediate cash flow issues – ie will we find out tomorrow Grealish was sold? And if Xia is looking for investment and only received one 30m offer, why in the following bullet points did it state he turn away ‘multiple’ other interest? I’m just as confused, but I feel terrible for the position Bruce now finds himself in.

  23. Hitchens60 avatar
    Hitchens60

One final comment – Xia says the club are ‘bank loan free’ but this is completely contratidictory to filings at Companies House. In my view this alone is sufficient to wholly discredit the letter. I would love someone to prove me wrong.

    1. DSVilla avatar
      DSVilla

Where do you get that from H60? Aston Villa accounts to 2017 showed a £1M bank loan (about £10M less than the year before). Xia says he has capitalised his own loans. Not sure why you doubt this but interested to hear.

It does appear that he can control situation, but FFP limits his scope for investment. He could be hiding behind that but I would expect a more desperate move to sell if that’s not the case.

      1. Hitchens60 avatar
        Hitchens60

DS, the Brum Mail ran an article which evidenced loans from an Australian Bank – Macquereas (sic) for forward borrowing secured against the final Amavi payment and at least part of the final parachute payment – two or three loans all recorded at Companies House.

Xia also says he’s swopped (his) debt for equity (you may remember Lerner doing the same) as required by FFP. He may well have done but interestingly and this may be what the share changes at Companies House were about but I believe that’s more to do with improving Xia’s tax position and simplifying the sale of an interest in the club rather than FFP.

My comment about wholly discrediting the letter wasn’t meant to read as there weren’t elements of truth but I wasn’t convinced by it as a whole. Nor was the Brum Mail who described it as incredible – which literally means unbelievable, hard to believe or beyond belief.

      2. Hitchens60 avatar
        Hitchens60

        https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/xia-letter-aston-villa-grealish-14877749

DS if you scan down this article you’ll see the comments on the forward loans which are described by financial experts as ‘unusual’. To my mind this is just a form of secured debt to raise cash so how can we be ‘bank loan free’?

Other than confirming Bruce stays as manager what else does it say that we didn’t already know – and it’s what it doesn’t say that’s more illuminating – no cash flow problems after all?

        1. DSVilla avatar
