Wycombe 1 – 1 Villa; Garde out. Yes, even this early.

There are a couple of things I’ve learned about our players this season.

1) Gil is a talented player, who, on his day carries a serious threat and can make things happen.
2) Gestede is absolute garbage and his movement is probably worse than mine.
How long can we keep saying “that was unlucky, because it was just behind him”?
A point can be made in it’s all down to confidence, but I think it’s more than that.

So why did we take off probably our best player in Gil, while Gestede, who didn’t look like scoring in a month of Sundays, stayed on?

Looking at this fairly, Sherwood got slated for taking off Sanchez against Leicester, a decision that helped in his sacking.
By that rating, my opinion says Remi Garde’s decision today will be seen as the same, when it comes to his sacking, which my money says will happen this season or more likely at the end of it when we go down.

Is that harsh or even dare I say Fickle?

Not really, as the truth is, while I’ve always tried to get behind Garde, I was never convinced by his appointment.
From what I’ve seen, he’s far too pragmatic and dare I say, scared.

We should have attacked Wycombe a lot more than we did in the first half and going with just Gestede up front was the wrong tactics in my eyes.

Am I being over-reactive in taking this position?
Well, the last to turn are always the away fans and when they start singing “you don’t know what you’re doing” to the manager, you know it’s only a matter of time.
Also consider that I’m not normally the sort who goes OTT at the first sign of a poor performance.

While Garde looks like he knows what a load of rubbish we are when you see his reactions from the bench, I have no faith in him whatsoever in being able to sort it out and bring the right sort of players in.

Hence, I wouldn’t give him a penny to spend in this window and we need someone who will give this team a kick up the proverbial NOW.

Nigel Pearson is our only hope, even if he gets involved in punch-ups with the players etc.
It’s what we need, as this current squad has absolutely nothing about them.

The trouble is, will Fox be able to see it and actually have the sphericals to act quickly?
I very much doubt it, because he doesn’t have a clue and he’ll be happy because we’ve managed to bring Wycombe back to Villa Park; ie more money in Randy’s pocket.

As for the game, that’s easily summed up in a couple of words, which are all I want to say.

Utter rubbish.

If Sherwood deserved sacking, so does Garde.
I’ve not seen a single thing the latter does better.
In fact, it’s probably worse, because I’m sure Sherwood would at least have taken the occasional gamble.

The truth is, I’m beginning to get sick of watching us.
    It’s that bad.
We never look like we have a chance of winning 🙁

  2. On a plus point at least the replay will generate more money. Fox must be licking his lips. Ha ha ha

  3. Can’t see GARDE being in charge next season but I think he’ll be here until the inevitable happens.11 changes for Bournemouth today against the SCUM see how they get on.

  4. Sacked without ever making a signing or making a mark, BONKERS. Think some of you peeps are on Hippy Crack if your saying he deserves sacking for attempting to polish shit, because shit is all he’s had to work with.

    1. Agree Miffed. people on here say it doesn’t matter who the manager is it makes no difference. Then the next minute they are calling for the managers head. And they have the audacity to call Garde clueless. Comical.

      1. He is clueless, he hasn’t even addressed the most obvious of things, and any manager who cannot squeeze one win out of his first 10 games, one of which against a league two side, clearly isn’t good enough.

        1. Pearson and Allardyce were also clueless a couple of months ago. Now most on here want Pearson. Comical.

        2. How can you say he’s clueless without the weapons at his disposal. I can already see the Lerner camp on here ready to blame the manager, when everything is out of his hands until he’s built his own team. Lerner is the rot and people like Fox have to follow his directive of asset stripping whilst pulling the wool over the sheep fans eye’s. R.I.P. ASTON VILLA.

          1. Perhaps read my other comment about Lerner first before calling me a sheep.

Even still, Garde in my opinion isn’t good enough, as i said, playing Gestede with no wingers, playing Bacuna at left back, playing Guzan at all etc etc.

Miffed, that’s a fair viewpoint and I understand it to some extent.
But we haven’t even seen a honeymoon period under this manager.
      He can’t motivate players mate.
And that’s what is needed, imo.

Either way, as much as you think I’m barmy, I’ll bet the bloke is on borrowed time, even if we go down.
And if we stick with him, it’ll only show how deluded the board really are.

As I said, I’m normally slow at calling for a manager’s head.
      That should tell you something.
I really think Garde doesn’t have a clue, technical stuff apart.
He has no motivational skills whatsoever and doesn’t have the backup to support him in this area either.

Just my opinion, which says this bloke’s days are already numbered.

      1. The honeymoon period is not a right, the players have to be good enough in the first place to achieve this. Fed up of people like you burying your heads in the sand over this club and it ‘s poor recruitment. I was once a regular commentator on this site during Robbo’s days, but I was banging my head against the wall when I was predicting this mess after the MON days and really don’t like saying “I told you so”. 37 years a fan before the bullshit “you’re not a real fan” shit. Remi needs a fair chance, concentrate your rage at Lerner only as this mess is ALL his fault.

          Badger123

iIve actually liked your comment, because I agree with it.
But there are options that I don’t think Garde has taken.

We should have attacked Wycombe after the first few minutes, because they offered very little, if the defence could hold their nerve.

That’s a big ask, of course, but how can we possibly win a game if we can’t even try against League 2 opposition?

If we carry on the way we are, we won’t win another game this season, it’s as simple as that, imo.

If you’re ok with that, I can’t argue.
But I want to see us going down with a fight.
          And I’m not seeing it.
Nor am I seeing a manager that will make us fight in the championship.
          Why?
Because Ligue 1 is nowhere near the same game.
          And that’s all he knows.

It’s another recipe for failure, simple.
And that’s coming from someone who has held his tongue for a long while.

We all know where the problem lies, but Garde is just another symptom of the overall problem.
And if I think he’s rubbish, I’m going to say so.

Don’t worry, Lerner will still be the main target from my side though.

As for us not criticising what’s gone on, are you sure you’re looking at the right site?
I thought we were classed as the most negative site “out there”

Yes the worst match ever…….we couldnt even pass and they were not interested, especially after they had drew level.
Put TV on and all the talk was about the money they would get from Villa Park replay…..never seen a lower league team waste time (even in 1st half) when they are not winning ???
PEARSON IN……cant wait for the punch up on training pitch between Pearson and Richards……

  6. What on earth has happened to our club.

    Randy Lerner you absolute c**t.
Bad decision after bad decision, and still the rot continues.

Oh how i wish we had appointed Mark Hughes when O’Neil left, we wouldn’t be where we are now.

To think we have hired yet another clueless manager, if anybody is wondering if Remi Garde has what it takes, then i’d say your questions have been answered, he is utterly clueless.

Still playing Gestede up front without any natural wingers able to put a cross in, is in my mind, absolutely fruitless and futile, we may as well be playing with 10 men.

The fact that today, where we need a win just to claw some kind of confidence back, and he plays a slightly weaker side than usual, if there is such a thing at the moment.

    Garde you are absolutely clueless.

The one thing we have needed for over 5 seasons now is a strong defence, and year after year this has gone totally unaddressed, when i look back at some of the fantastic defenders we have had at this club, it makes me weep that we are still playing square pegs in round holes, Richards in the center, Bacuna in either full back position, Hutton, Clark and Richardson, even West Broms cast off in Lescott, how has this been allowed to happen?

Why, when we spent 50 million on new players, could we firstly not address the defence, which should be the first thing on any to do list when trying to keep the club in the premier league?

Any fool sat in their arm chair can see the problems and what needs addressing and yet, here we are, in the worst possible decline imaginable, an absolute joke of a club, about to follow the route of Leeds and Forrest into the abyss.

I am absolutely ashamed to be a supporter of our once great club, because we are a complete laughing stock, and every opportunity to stop the rot has been missed over the last 5 years by absolutely shocking decision making from the top.

    Randy you total fucking c**t.

MIFFEDVILLAIN….he cannot even instill a basic desire to either get stuck in or get forward.

    1. I think I’ve explained my position on the issue adequately, sorry you can’t see through the mist pal.

  8. Pearson would bang heads and these players need that. Put no manager could get this team to play , they are just not good enough in my opinion. We can all give out about the manager, but it doesn’t matter who is in the team what system he plays the players are just diabolical.

  9. jvillan avatar

i am all behind remi out any manager that kept guzan hutton in the team no matter how many goals they gave away, put richardson in team he has not broke sweat in villa shirt since signing garbage footballer, keeps richards captain mouthpiece, westwood last two tackles involved a pen look where westwoods elbow was, norwich match when over made cowardly assault on touchline another garbage fotballer wycombe mid fielder miles better,
as for rudi what can you say, kozak left on bench another good choice

  10. Gil may have come off because we have a game on Tuesday night, anyways we kept the ball better once he had gone off! I agree with comments about Gestede, he contributes nothing! Robbie Savage pointed out how poor he was, no movement, no 1st touch, never wins a clean header in the box! This should have been a game to suit him perfectly! But what choice does Remi have, the squad is shit!

  11. Bunn came out and controlled his area, Guzan would not do that. Gestede a waist of space on the field does nothing I agree give Kozak a chance.

  12. VillaFan avatar

we are all resigned to relegation.

All we want, and its not too much to ask, is for the players to show commitment and passion and willing on the football pitch.

Fair play, if we are not winning due to a lack of quality, but what is UNACCEPTABLE is the laxk of effort.

Just 3 small things from this game against lowly opponents.

    1. The ball bounced a few yards out from our penalty area, 2 villa players stood and watched while a wycombe player darted in and stole it. PATHETIC.

    2. Richardson was free to cross on the left from
A good position. Gestede starts the run towards near post, then inexplicably just stops, and the ball is played exactly where he was about to run to. Absolutely no desire. PATHETIC.

    3. Half balls and loose balls, how many times did we come out second best. I’ll answer – at LEAST -15 times I counted with half hearted tackles. PATHETIC.

The LEAST we expect from Garde is to invoke some desire, some passion, some willing, some fight into this drab bunch of players, but apart from briefly against Man City, this just doesnt happen.

It fucking infuriates me. These dregs are on more
Per week than most get in a year, they dont know how lucky and priveleged they really are. Wycombe made up for their lack of quality by showing aggression, willing and passion – stuff we haven’t got any of. I’m so glad the fans gave them
Stick at the end – clearly this is something we are being forced to do, because Garde dowsnt seem
To be getting anywhere 10 games on.

This was a diabolical performance, and it really is the last time I even watch them on TV, let alone spend £100+ and spend a day travelling to and from Villa park.

Lerner out, Garde out. The whole playing and coaching staff out for all I care.

  13. you can see from the body language there are huge divisions in that team and garde cannot or doesn’t know how to get a team to play,if we sack him we look ridiculous, if we don’t and go down without a fight we look worse in my opinion

  14. think there are more than a few older players looked at the garde appointment and thought who the fuck are you and will not perform for him

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

That’s not the point you play for the short no matter who manager is

      1. thing is ooha there’s to many players coming the big billy biscuit and think they’re bigger than the club, as an aside how much more confident were you with bunn in goal

  15. Badger123 avatar
    Badger123

    Spot on.

We may not have the quality, but we should at least fight and try.
If we can’t do it against the likes of Wycombe, we have no chance in the Championship, it’s as simple as that.

Garde has shown no sign of instilling that in the team, so has to go.

  16. stick with garde when we go down.

    let him build his team.

I am sick of changing managers.
a lot of pundits say rednap was a great manager. spent a shit load and still relegated qpr twice

get rid of all the players who don’t give a shit (nearly all of them).
I want a team of players who put in100 Per cent and can pass to each other.
    bacuna on the beach
grealish partying after us getting stuffed at Everton
gabby too comfortable for too long.

Ayer and veretout are showing good promise.

the experienced players are the ones letting us down. get shot. they just want the money.

and for krulak and his desert storm speech. what a joke.
Lerner is a coward and shows no fight nor interest. if he did he would get over here and get in the trenches with the manager not hide behind krulaks shirt tails.

I’m sick of changing managers too.
But this bloke is not the answer, imo.
My money says you’ll see, when he brings in more utter rubbish players from the French league.

Garde knows nothing about the Prem and even less about the Championship.

He couldn’t even see it against a League 2 side, unless you think he played it right today?
In which case, I’m awaiting your reply.

        1. we started the season with no leader on the pitch (gabby doesn’t count), no proven prem goalscorer and a lightweight midfield that can’t protect the defence. now halfway through nothing has changed.
we simply are not good enough.
no manager can make allowance for the stupid mistakes our team continually make.
garde may not be a motivator but I have always taken the view that you should be self motivated every time you put a villa shirt on.
the French lads all show promise but to many to soon.
the playing side of the club is a mess and garde was brave to come here.
as for today I think grade had one eye on Tuesdays game.
not one of our players is his and now here deserves the chance to mould his own team.

As much as it seems Micah Richards isn’t rated by many Villa fans, I quite like the bloke.
    I definitely think he’s trying.

But the plain fact is the quality isn’t there.
And we don’t have any type of motivator at the club, from top to bottom.

  22. Tuesday night could be interesting there’ll be a few more fans at VP, enoughs enough what else can the club expect.fans are totally pissed off with things on & off the field we’re only human afterall.

It’s Garde’s fault, it’s Lerner’s fault, it’s Fox’s fault, it’s Sid’s fault, it’s McDonald’s fault – it’s every fu**ers fault and that’s the truth of it. Blame the players but if they’re not up to the task then it’s because they don’t havecsufficient quality to play in the prem or, by all accounts, league 2.

Despite those who say otherwise the club has generally been in decline for years and I remember the optimism that greeted the sale to a ‘wealthy responsible owner’. What a false dawn that proved to be.

Some one said Moyes wouldn’t come unless there was a ‘root and branch change’ – true or not that is exactly where we are.

In business responsibility for failure rests with the CEO and the board – no different here. OK sack Garde but unless and until the whole board including the Chairman go then nothing NOTHING is going to change whether you bring in Nigel Pearson or God himself.

Rant over – back to the malt

    1. Moyes must have said it becuse it was a direct quote from Five live’s Midlands correspondent Murphy. Listen to the podcast it’s still available Oohah posted the link the other day or Google Joey Barton Villa run by Muppets and you’ll find it mate. Well worth a listen.

  24. Just been reading GARDEs post match speach regarding the second half’we weren’t at the same level as Wycombe’well what fucking level were we at then matey???evo FUCKING stik

      Hitchens 60

Giddy mate, have another pint – I find it works wonders!

Mind you – love the Evostik comment – how about a load of Pricksticks for starters!

  25. Another shambolic day on and off the field. The fans turning on the players is understandable, given the lack of effort/passion on the field, but it does nothing to help our cause. In fact it makes the chance of us improving even less likely.

I didnt even bother watching today, but given what I’ve read, we played about as well as we’ve been playing all season.

However, one thing I think you have wrong in this article is the idea of the money that the replay will generate. Apart from the Wycombe fans, the ground is going to be empty. The only way to get people to this game is making it free for season ticket holders or kids or ridiculously cheap tickets…and even then, we will have a hard time.

As for Garde. There is a danger that he has a free pass at Villa. Yes he has inherited a woeful team, but does that justify not managing to win a single match so far? How long can they let this continue….what if he only manages a couple of wins by the end of the season?

    1. Hitchens 60 avatar
      Hitchens 60

Or none Benno. Worcester Warriors went a whole season without winning a single game and we are just as inept!

    2. Badger123 avatar
      Badger123

Absolutely correct Benno, where you say he isn’t entitled to a free pass.

Garde has shown nothing that improves from the Sherwood situation and I can’t see a single win under him.

And if Sherwood had to go, so does Garde, if we’re talking about level playing fields.

Garde imo, shows even less signs of being able to motivate, so what are his plus points?
Apart from the fact that he’s more likely to be grateful he’s got a fat wage in the Prem?

If anyone can can point out where Garde has a single plus point in his favour over Sherwood, I’ll happily take it on board.

The sad fact is, he’s probably cheap.
And again we’ll reap what we’ve sown.

We need to get real people.

We’ve a cheap manager, along with a cheap squad.

And we’re only going one way.
