Why Lambert has to go

I have to come clean straight from the off and say something that involves the “F” word.

I’m Fickle.
There. I’ve said it.

Here’s the dictionary meaning of the word;

adjective
1.
likely to change, especially due to caprice, irresolution, or instability; casually changeable:
fickle weather.
2.
not constant or loyal in affections:
a fickle lover.

It’s a good description of me actually.
Well, at least the first part is.
The club are the best thing since sliced bread if we win and absolute proverbial if we lose, simple.
Particularly so when we lose as often as we have been lately.

The second part is total rubbish though and doesn’t apply at all.
I’ll never love another Football club and my ultimate loyalty overall will never change.

“Yeah, yeah, what the hell has this got to do with the Villa?”, I hear you ask.

The answer is that I, amongst many other Villa fans wanted Lambert after the disaster that we had previously as manager (that Spurs away game, shudder).
He seemed a reasonable choice at the time, with the way he had progressed through the leagues, having played some decent footy.

But now I’ve 100% changed my mind.

He’s proven to be a total failure in my opinion, even if you weigh up the constraints he’s been under.

Have we ever had a bit of luck under Lambert? I struggle to remember, but if you consider we haven’t, that tells you something in itself. “You make you own luck”, is an old saying and we’ve had next to none for ages.
He should quite simply be sacked, regardless of what you think of him, purely because of his actual record.
It’s not as though you can say “things are moving forward” either, can you?

Ok, you can cite the fact that we’ve played the top 6 teams from last season and it was always going to be difficult. But have we ever had to witness such dire footy to boot?
You have to go back to the 80’s for that.
We play rubbish, no plan B footy, which is boring to watch and is something the manager doesn’t know how to change. This isn’t going to alter, as Lambert’s attitude is seemingly not to lose the game and actually going out to win it is simply not in the mindset at all. This surely has to be an attitude that gets passed onto the players, to my mind.

I could possibly live with a period of austerity if we played proper footy.
The fact that we’ve had the austerity with utterly poor footy and only have the same to look forward to under the current manager tells anyone with half a brain that something needs to change.
We’re again under a serious threat of going down and crowds are only going to shrink, the way we’re going.

You only have to read the recent comments by the likes of JayDee, who has consistently been one of the most staunch supporters on here, to see where we’re headed.

As for the point that is often raised of which manager we should bring in; that’s not our job to choose, is it?

All I know is Doug Ellis would never have allowed Lambert to be here as long as he has been.
Which quite nicely leads back to me being fickle.
I never liked Ellis.
But I’d take him over what we have now.

This article has been well overdue.
Lambert has had more than enough time and chances to turn things around.
Just because he isn’t Alex McLeish doesn’t mean he should be given as much time as he has been.
Still, we can all spout off on various sites saying how crap he is. As long as people keep clapping this inept manager off the field then the longer we will be stuck with him.
I said it on Saturday, there was actually a part of me that wanted a stuffing from West Ham because I think it would have been a defeat too far.
Sadly, we got a “huge and excellent” point.
I can’t see him going anywhere soon now.
    Lambert OUT.

Your right Lamberk, but just shows how far our once great club has, when a goalless draw is seen as a decent result, and saves the managers skin once again !!

For the very first time I really hoped Villa would lose against West Ham. I reckoned two or three losses and we would be rid of PL. But we didn’t lose…or win. I feel like Villa is in some sort of football limbo at the moment and I just want something, anything, to happen. The mediocrity is the thing that’s killing me. It almost feels like there no hope at the moment and I can’t even watch MOTD when we draw, if I hear PL say once more how ‘excellent’ Villa are I’ll throw up.

Don’t even mind so much if we get relegated anymore if it gets rid of PL and brings back some genuine excitement, after all some of the best games I ever saw were at home to Bournemouth, away to Mansfield…happy days!

The difference is that Bournemouth might get promoted and show more ambition than us anyway. The fans will never call for lamberks head and unless that changes he will always be here

Bournemouth at home. Such unlikely opponents to figure in the memory but every one of the 40K+ in attendance remembers the extraordinary atmosphere that top of the table battle in the 3rd Division had. One of the best goals I ever saw scored against Villa at VP was Ted MacDougall flying head first to meet Phil Boyer’s cross. But Villa won 2-1.

Join the very unhappy Villa fans Pat C, sad that most fans know we are stuck with a manager that cannot manage, Oops sorry he can manage, he will manage to give us heartache at the very least, plus take us down. I can only hope that someone will take up the gauntlet with banners and mass protest about his lack of knowledge of football.I’ve had a peep at loads of Villa blog and all are angered at our state of affairs. Bring back glory days heaven knows we miss them.

I have shown total support to Lambert since day one. The day I gave up on him was our 4-1 home loss to Stoke late last season. I’m sick and tired with the lack of diversity and ambition Paul Lambert and his crew show. Time is long up! I think we are just a little to big for Paul and his ideas now.

I don’t want it to come relegation . We are better than that and should aspire to more. If we lose to the baggies he will be gone. I for one are fed up of them taking the piss out of us. We need to regain some dignity .We are the pride of the Midlands . Its about time we showed it.

Lambert out please. I look at the team sheet every game and say to myself “What is he waiting for?” Nobody could storm into his office to ask why he had been dropped in favour of a youngster, because nobody has got a match-winning last outing in his pocket.

If he thinks the current crew are going to snap into a hot goal-scoring streak he should remember the 20 minutes following Weimann’s goal against a nervous Spurs, when Villa sat back and invited Spurs to recover. That is down to Lambert alone, continue attacking or park the bus – we know what Lambert chose then and will continue to choose. We do not accept it.

I’ve held off until now but Lambert has had his chance and frankly if he’s aloud to carry on he will have us relegated. We can and will IMPO be in the bottom 3 by the 22nd of this month & have to play Southampton on the 24th.Lambert has to go before we are relegated.Lambert is not the manager to take us forward ive given him enough faith but have no more faith to give him.P45 for Paul Lambert Loser begone UTV VTID

Surely he has to go soon. Am I naive in thinking placing in the premier league would far out weigh paying him off?

I’m not one for the hire them, fire them attitude that is rife throughout the leagues. But at least the chairman who do look to change things show ambition and a willingness to improve the situation.

Agree with the statement about mediocrity. Feels like Villa have been living in groundhog day for the last 4/5 years. Only really asserting themselves in the last few months to trickle over the safety line.

I also believe more can be done with the squad. By no means are they brilliant footballers, but surely a half decent coach could irk more out of the players than the current setup. An injection of something different is what we need to give us optimism for the new year (not the Keane variety).

It depends what his contract says.

It is fairly standard that relegation means the manager can be sacked with only one month’s notice. However some contracts refer to being in the relegation positions (say by mid season) as the reason for a termination being possible without more than compensation for the remaining months of the current season.

Wouldn’t surprise me there wasn’t somewhere in his clause he has to have Villa at least like, top 12 by Christmas, or something, which is why he currently doesn’t fear getting sacked.

Fickle, indeed you are. Anyway I’m glad to say my interest in AVFC has dropped to such a level that I dont even watch the games (or should I say losses) any more and I say that as an ex season ticket holder who regularly went to away games.
The club is now dead in the water. RIP AVFC
