What to expect this season?

Ok, so the last post has become a little old and we appreciate you all want something different to talk about at this stage of the (non) season.

So, the question I’ve been been asking myself is, as above really.

What can we expect?

Well, I quite simply believe it’s still very early days in the window, where none of us, including the mejia, have a clue what’s going to happen when it comes to ins and outs at Villa Park.

We’ve had Gueye and Amavi come in; that is known.
And Delph and probably Benteke are gone, along with a few others.
Even Guzan was gone for £3 million.
Until Sherwood refuted it totally and said he was going to be his number one goalie this season.

So what’s known about who’s coming in?
Adebayor? Very possibly, in my opinion, but more likely not as a mainstay. I don’t believe even Sherwood would be able to motivate him for a whole season.
And he won’t be costing the fairly big money that’s being mentioned either. But that’s just my opinion.

Austin?
He ticks the boxes, but let’s see if we’ll pay the asking.
Although, I think he might suit the Villa.

In short, we, along with the mejia, know absolutely nothing.
Even the usual supposed ITK’s know nothing, which I find quite interesting, but that’s an aside.

So what can we expect from the stuff that really matters; the actual footy we get to see on the pitch?
That’s where you lot come in.

I think I know that we will not be going down the defensive “try not to concede and nick one”, Lambert type of approach, that we knew was going to doom us in quick time.
And we’re going to go for games, especially against the “lesser” teams, or even those around our level.

And we’ll even approach games against the top clubs with the same attitude.

Or will we?

Shouldn’t a canny manager look to nick the draw against the better clubs, whilst knowing that they can punish us?
But then, we’ve done Arsenal away and Pool, even under Lambert.

Basically, what I’m asking is do you think Sherwood is going to go Gung Ho?

At first thought, I’d love it, but it could cost us, as it did under Lambert.

My personal thoughts are that we need to watch how our defence works, as it’s been an ongoing problem and this is where I would put any winter window money, if the need arises.

Mixed thoughts, but basically it all boils down to quality, as per usual.

I suspect I’m thinking the same as many, in that anywhere from 18th to 7th is probably realistic this season.

One thing I’m sure of, is that it isn’t going to be boring.

  1. From the little we’re seeing from the warm up games we do seem to be keeping it on the floor, which I like, and some really nice passing from Gil especially.

Adebayor’s good with his head but is also very skillful on the ground too. Honestly think he could be better for us than Benteke if Tim can get his mind right but if he can’t there’s always the risk that he’ll just turn out to be another expensive passenger. Here’s hoping!

  2. Adebayor is far more talented than Benteke will ever be……just need to get his head sorted, not easy I know! His salary is around £5 mil which means that we only have to finish four places higher than last season to recoup his wages which we will do comfortably if Tim is allowed to spend ALL the Benteke cash…..over to you Randy on that one! I have said many a time on here, its a ‘new dawn’ with Sherwood at the helm and I believe that its only Lerner who can fuck this up by not splashing the cash! We have a massive opportunity to finally show some ambition after 4 barren years.

Being linked with a decent striker. Wiki says it’s a done deal though anyone can edit it. http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2015/07/22/report-aston-villa-targeting-diego-rolan-as-christian-benteke-re/page/1/

      1. What do you know about him Oohah, apart from he is shit and if he does improve he’ll be off to one of the sky 4 teams in January. 🙂

        1. Or if not January next summer, or the January after, or the summer after that, or the January after that, or the summer after that….You get my drift. 🙂

        lol.
Anyone seen him play?, as I can’t say I have.

        1. Gueye, amavi, rolan, We have obviously spent time scouting in the French leagues last year
Judging by how soon these links/transfers appeared too. This was all done during last season.

Thats a positive thing. Background work gone on in a constructive focused way with tenable results.

there have been lots of back room staff appointments and movement it has to be said since Sherwood came in. lets not forget that was just February.

    Snap Oohah.
I don’t believe it, but the Uruguay thing is a bit odd, so you never know, I suppose.

Scored 17 in 61 for Bordeau.

    1. Darren avatar

Yeah just read that apparently Newcastle have had an offer of 13m rejected and Bordeaux are holding out for €20m interesting, will undoubtedly see what follows.

Another player using is as a stepping stone. We should be renamed Aston academy

          Put another record on Ooah.
95% odd of clubs are stepping stones to the CL clubs.
It stinks, I agree, but why keep moaning about something that isn’t going to change?

Just pisses me off Badger we should be up there challenging for CL even though the competition is a load of bollox

Plus how are we ever going tone successful if we keep selling our best players it’s pointless

        2. Darren avatar

To be honest it is a way to improve the squad. Let’s say we manage to sell on one player each year for £30m we develop. Then you buy 3 at £10m and do it again the following season etc etc and eventually you end up with a damn good team.

          1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
            OohAhPaulMcGrath

Assuming Lerner gives the £30m tithe manager and assuming manager spends it wisely. Unfortunately we have a clown owner and a clown manager. I like Sherwood he’s refreshing but he is not a good long term manager for us. We will start well turn die a death.

Same as the sustainability model I mentioned the other day – like being a bigger version of Crewe.

15 in 36 last season so he’s obviously coming with age, especially as half of last season he spent as a Right Winger.

Républica seems to know a lot and they being a Uruguayan paper I’d expect them too. So it’s probably real.

Sky asked Whoscored.com to name the top ten transfers from abroad based on statistical analysis. Gueye is placed 8th and Amavi 3rd with the latter being described as a real coup. OK OohAh you can now have a field day with that bit of information!

I think we’ll get another couple of faeces in and we’ll have an interesting season. Well impressed by the three we’ve got in so far. I’d like to see a new GK and forward in and possible RB. It would be nice to see the back of Zog and one or two other from the Lambert reign go. We were one dimensional and it showed badly in the final…
Bear in mind we also signed a DOF(?), and Wilkins so behind the scenes things are certainly hotting up.

One more thing, I don’t mind Benteke going, but it will make me sick to the stomach to see him in a Liverpool shirt. God I hate that club…

I wish Bentekes deal was done so we can move on. What is the hold up.

Ha, I nearly spat my tea out then! 🙂

  10. with the new tv money most teams have an extra £40 mil to spend plus our sales, do you think we will spend the full £80mil bear in mind all players bought so far were before we had sold any one.

I’ve gone on about this for ages Billy’s.

    Forest Green 0 – 3 Aston Villa (Tonev, Sellers x 2)
Someone tell Sellers to stop scoring or Lerner will think there’s no need to spend on a striker.

    1. Ha ha…..wish you was joking mate 🙂

    Official benteke signs

  13. Villa shoot themselves in the foot yet again! Golden rule of football is ALWAYS buy before you sell! Do we have any (decent) admin staff at VP? Either that or Randy is once again trousering all the cash. FFS

    1. Hitchens 60 avatar

Doesn’t happen very often Langford – ask Liverpool. Torres, Suarez and Sterling. Will Benteke be the new Carroll or perhaps a smarter version of Balletiotelly!

    2. Hardly Langford,
There is the buying and selling we read about in the press and there is what goes on in the real world behind the scenes. Who is to know there haven’t been talks and targets and prices all negotiated beforehand. Not anyone outisde the club and probably most inside the club as well.

Secondly, what is the difference between us selling benteke or between other clubs believing we will sell Benteke? either way they can guess at the money availible as much as you or I?
the fact that someone isn’t announced already can mean little or nothing in terms of the price we pay for any replacement.

With Benteke gone, this is when we find it what Lerner’s real plans are – get the cheque book out randy and back your manager to sign some real quality.

Glad that’s over with, thanks Liverpool for pulling your thumb out your arse and getting it done. Wonder if Rodgers can teach him the off side rule and having tantrums like my 2 year old. Also shows everything about benteke, no thanking previous club or more importantly fans, he will do the same to Liverpool!!! Now it’s time to go out, get Charlie Austin for 15 mil, another centre midfielder with quality for around 15 mil, bring in cambiasso for experience for the young squad and I think the squad will then be more dynamic, better attitude and I’m looking forward to the new start, UP THE VILLA!!!!
