Villa – Spurs; More hopeful than expectant.

I don’t think I’m particularly tight, but I don’t like to waste money either.
So after leaving my job last week and being in no massive rush to get back to work, I’ve got a good chance to do a major job on my car. The autobox pan and oil change.
It’s a £450-500 job if you take it to a garage and a fair bit more if you go to the dealer.
And I’m not paying that!
So I’ve spent a good few hours researching how to do it correctly and buying the right parts, along with some required tools.
I’m about to have a bash at it, now the forecst is dry for the day.

The point is, the Villa are extremely important in my life, but they don’t always come first.
Hence I’ve hardly even thought about footy this week.

We face Spurs today then and while we’ve had a torrid time against them over the last few years, this is one of those games that I’ve always looked forward to.
Spurs have a long tradition of trying to play the game in the right way and I expect that’s why it appeals to me.

Looking at Spurs recently, it would seem to be a very good time to play them, but a look at the form table says that isn’t necessarily true.
Yes, they’ve ony won one in their last 5, having lost 3 and drawn 1, but they’ve faced Newcastle, Man U and Liverpool in those games, which I’s suggest distorts things slightly.

Our form is more middle table and we’ve won two 2, lost 2 and drawn 1.

Not that think form has too much to do with anything. We all know any team can beat any other on the day.
But I’m always willing to clutch at any straw and it’s something that makes me hope we can get something from the game.

Squad news, which reminds me. I haven’t had a mail from the club this week re the presser etc.Strange???
Anyway, it’s good news and the only player not available is Jed Steer. Cash, Kamara, Bailey and Coutinho were in the squad but not ready 100% to play.
This week some are still not capable of playing 90 mins, but they’re all fit enough to play a part if required.

As for Spurs Clement Lenglet suffered a shoulder problem against Crystal Palace but is expected to be fit. Yves Bissouma was in the matchday squad last week, but it’s not known if he’s quite ready.
Hugo Lloris, Ryan Sessegnon and Rodrigo Bentancur are all still out.

I reckon this game will be about scoring goals and not so much about conceding them. Spurs have Kane and Son, who I rate highly. We of course have Olly, who’s done really well for us and have a few players capable of scoring, but I think Spurs carry the bigger threat.

Whatever, I’m thinking and hoping this will be an entertaining game.
Having said that, I don’t see it being high scoring.

Do I think we’ll win? No, I don’t. But I definitely think we might get a point, which while not ideal, I would probably settle for.
But I haven’t been convinced about us for the last few games and I think we’ve just run out of steam. At least I hope that’s all it is.

Unfortunately, if I let my head rule my heart, I think we’ll lose 2-1.
Hopefully I’m wrong.

Right, where are my overalls?

UTV!

    Oh I forgot.
Well done Unai in getting the dreaded manager of the month award.
Let’s hope it doesn’t lead to the usual downturn in form.

I’ve often wondered what your job was Badger, strange hours , jobs like yours take it’s toll over the years , hey relax now and sort the car out , I did in my time and got satisfaction from it . I’ve now convinced my grandaughter to take an apprenticeship as a technician in the motor company. She got into 5 colleges told her how much money she would have to pay back over time .Yes tight game today and they know it’s something they have to go for , League almost over and there will be players looking for opportunities in other sides Villa amongst them. The outcome today ? Villa do your best as jobs on the line .

Looking forward to KO. Gonna be an interesting game and my main hope is Kamara getting back in his favoured role if he’s fit enough. If he can only do 45 minutes would you stick him on in the first or second half?
Good having Cash back too as Ash has been caught out lacking a smidge of pace recently.
Don’t know if anyone has seen the somewhat baseless reports about Martinez going to Spuds? Lol!!!! We’re due to surpass them next season. Also been linked with some tasty players from La Liga too…

Might see Costa starting in the right back role today?

Would love to see us win this one but Spurs are an even worse bogey side at VP than United and then there’s the dreaded manager of the month award so best I can see is a draw. Congratulations though to Unai for winning the award – well deserved.

Like Badger, I feel we’ve runout of a bit of steam after hauling ourselves up the league.

I’m really not that bothered about Europe next season but we don’t want to let our position slip too much – 3 tricky games left and top half finish not yet mathematically secured.

    Bailey starts 😖
Am I missing something? Is it just me who wouldn’t swap a bag of crisps for him? I can only hope that by the law of averages that he has a good game although I won’t hold my breath.
    However in Unai I trust.

    I was thinking the same.
And then he provides the assist lol.

Not putting the flag up for clear offsides is just moronic

It would seem one of our tactics is to cross high. I’m guessing Emery saw a weakness in the air with their defence?

That’s a great half. We’ve controlled that and Spurs’ trying to get in behind us hasn’t worked up to now.

  13. We have certainly worked on our short passes. Much sharper. We should have got the goal difference sorted with the chances we have had. Hopefully we will.

  14. Holte avatar

If anything that first half was too comfortable for us.
Seeing as slating a player pays off with Bailey getting an assist, then I’m really starting to think Watkins needs to up his game. I don’t care if he’s getting sleepless nights or not 🤞
