Villa sign Carles Gil according to Sky sports Spanish expert.

So, it would appear we’ve signed the attacking midfielder that Lambert said he wanted to get in before the Liverpool game.
He’s from Valencia, he’s aged 22 and has apparently signed a five year contract, with the fee being around four million euros.

The only concern for me is that he struggled to get back in the Valencia side after being out on loan at Elche (Sanchez’s previous club).
It strikes me that given the low price, it’s possibly just another punt, but if he turns out to be as good as Sanchez, it’ll be a case of fair play to Lambert.
That said, I can hardly see him being worse than Cleverley or Richardson, can you?

This is definitely a position that needed sorting and I hope this player is the answer.

So, if the story proves to be true, I’d like to say “Welcome, Carles”.

  1. Wikipedia hasn’t picked it up & his page was updated 25 minutes ago.

    Really Giddy?
I’ll nip over there and update it now then 🙂

The point is anyone can update Wiki, so that doesn’t mean anything.

It may well not be true, as I hinted in the post.
    No doubt we’ll see.

Definitely a clue as to what sort of players we’re going to bring in though, imo.
Lerner, you tight bastard, open your wallet.
I’m beginning to wish he calls it wrong and his gamble fails.

  3. I didn’t know Wikipedia was an update it yourself site.I always go by it maybe I’m a sad bastard.

You need to get the name correct 1st………..Carles Gil……the Carlos one is older.

    1. & the other plays for Corinthians unless some daft sod has updated his page wrong.

Yep, it does seem it is Carles, which is what I originally put in the title/tweet.
    Correcting it now 🙂

It’s the original tweeter’s spelling that led to my confusion.

    Giddy, here’s what comes up when you do a Yahoo search;

“Carles Gil – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carles_Gil Cached
Carles Gil de Pareja Vicent (born 22 November 1992) is a Spanish footballer who plays for Aston Villa F.C as an attacking midfielder. Signed for Aston …”

Looks like someone has already tried/is trying to update it.

Wiki’s good and I often refer to it, but it shouldn’t be taken as gospel.

Did we get that wrong as well?
Oh well, shows we’re human, I suppose 🙂

  9. there seems to be talk about januzaj being loaned and hes 5/2 end up at villa. but on utds website they say the cleverley loan deals stands in the way. unless villa make the cleverley deal permanent or send him back.

now we all seen enough of cleverley to send him back packing, januzaj could be just the tonic in place of gabby or wiemann, sanchez westwoods bacuna delph we have enough cover for centre mids

No problrm with januzai but not on loan sane old bollox sick of it. Cleverley is shite i said at beginning and was slagged for it. I wouldnt evrn want him if he was free let everyon have with my blessing

      1. Januzaj would never be permanently signed, so why not on loan? Be better than wasting money on Sinclair and give us to the summer to find an out and out winger to permanently sign.

Because I’m sick of us being a finishing school for sky 4 teams. It smacks of small club mentality and frankly is humiliating for a club of our stature.

          1. But you liked Liverpool for the title last season and they loaned… Moses from Chelsea, another Sky 4 team. Loans are the furthest thing from a small club mentality, Valencoa have a fair few loans, and they’d crush us 10-0 if we ever played them. If it gives us time to find the right winger under a possible director of football, than there should never be a problem with loans. Everton have loans, etc. It’s a huge market we should be looking into more often than we do.

It sticks in my crawl. I don’t mind a loan of a decent player we will realistically signed. Moses was a bit part player only that was never wanted by chelsea anyway.

          2. And who knows if Januzaj is wanted by United anymore. Van Gaal would rather spend hundred’s of millions instead. While we don’t have a chance of signing him, especially as there would be so many clubs wanting him (unless we could somehow make him love the club), he’d still be incredibly helpful for 5 months.

Ok but if he does turn out to be decent he still won’t stay with us

It seems Gil plays centre or right.
Doesn’t Januzaj also play on the right?
I’d say one of those rumours is wrong, if so.

    1. from my intel gathering, gil does play central, but more forward like cole behind strikers 🙂 januazaj is whats know as attacking midfielder plays right and left and is two footed, i would rather loan him than cleverley without a doubt,

cleverley preferred destination is at everton, without sounding ungrateful, i don’t rate him or want him

      1. Badger123 avatar
        Badger123

I don’t know of anyone who does want Cleverley.
Especially at anything more than a couple of million.

        1. well man utd want 7 (seven) unless their sites wrong. well iam off 2 the coffin up crack of spuggie.

by time i awaken we should have signed another 10 and have new manager and owner

          1. saddened avatar

Gil is a great buy, seen him play at Elche a few times (near benidorm way yey) goes forward like a rocket and not afraid to put his foot in, intelligent, better prospect than Sanchez(who i adore)…..

          2. Sanchez is 28… He’s not what anyone should consider a prospect.

  11. Badger123 avatar
    Badger123

    That’s encouraging, Saddened.
I hope he does prove to be a good buy, as I don’t WANT Lambert or the Villa in general to fail.

Bit late for that Badger. Lambert failed the minute he walked through the door!

        Badger123

Fair point, but even though I want him and Lerner out and have slated them lately, I’d rather they turned it around and got us going well.

    2. nice to hear someone seen this guy and rates him, cheers saddened .

what matters to me is the players, we need new players and need quality, its 12 th of jan already so you can’t hang around, if we don’t buy or loan some invention we are down which ever muppet is manager

  12. Jay Dee avatar

He’s regarded as a good player but young. We really need some creativity and let’s hope he does well.Utv

  13. DSVilla avatar

We need to replace Agbonlahor, Weimann, nZogbia and one of Cleverley and Westwood. Gil had better be good to do that!

Thats one position filled….Now 2 proper wingers please. Cissokho getting roasted week in week out, (even Albrighton tied him up in knots Saturday) shows how important it can be to have width!!

    1. He never looks like he’s with the game to me, been like that from day one, yes agree need to change our shape two wide men would do nicely.

  15. jvillan avatar

how can lambert let albrighton go and then payout for sicknote cole what is 1 in 6 he is fit for that was bad enough then paid fulham fee for richardson dont think albrighton that isthat good maybe one in four but compare that to gabby wiemen clerverly zog he is superstar

  16. Gil flying in to have medical today at Villa. Sky Sports say.

  17. Good article by richard jolly in the national, all the right points!

  18. So we are signing a youngster from a foreign league to be our creative saviour now we are in the shit.
It is one gamble after another.
On another note Lambert in the mail today said he took Sanchez off to allow Leicester to come out and play. Doesn’t he watch the bloody game it was leicester doing all the attacking.
    Unbelievable.
His comments are purely self preservetion and the sad thing is Lerner and now Fox are suckers for it.

    1. Saddened avatar

Steve, I have seen this Gil lad play both at Elche and Valencia, and he looks very good and a fantastic prospect… My big concerns are that Lambert will not have the balls to play him, and with his awful tactics his confidence will get shattered…or get injured in training.

I don’t have the answers as to who we should get in to replace him, but Lamberts time is now surely up, we have an ok mid table team, but this mans is failing and now appears desperate.

    2. GarethVilla avatar
      GarethVilla

I think Lambert brainwashed Lerner a few years back.
Lerner believes everything that comes out of his mouth.
His comment about “expectancy outweighing realism” is disgusting.
Our expectancy level has never been so low – certainly since he has been in charge.
Is it wrong to expect our team to have scored more than 11 league goals at this stage of the season?
      What a disgrace he is.

      1. saddened avatar

with you there Gareth, he is trying to say we expect too much – what a tosser… We expect half decent football and to be mid table… not champions league…. the arrogance of the man makes my blood boil!

  19. Why not have Lowton on the right wing. It’s obvious he isnt the best right back but he’s probably our best crosser of the ball to be fair. He’s put plenty on a plate for Tekkers something our midfield have failed to do much of lately.

  20. i am with you there adam i also think we missed a trick with bennet on the other wing with those two you wouldn’t need two defensive centre midfielders to protect the defense

11 am 13/1/15…sky sports news…….unforeseen complication cropped up in transfer dealings but Villa confident it will go through……

  22. Fucking agents money again brum mail.

  23. whats happening the amigo still hasn’t signed ??????? also talkshite says we are interested in morrison badboy from hammers for free risk but maybe a decent one hes not bad player. just think if we could get these two behind benteke and drop weiman and gabby or drop cleverley and have the aimgo and morrison and gabby behind benteke. well wot ever we decided we have more competition options 🙂 when they bloody sign

    are there any problems ????

  24. Aston Villa’s move for Carles Gil has hit a last-minute hitch over agents’ fees.

The Valencia midfielder’s representatives have increased their demands in the final stages of the deal.

Press Association Sport understands, however, Villa are still confident of signing the 22-year-old.

Villa are working through the late snag with Gil expected to sign a five-year deal after flying into Birmingham on Monday.

They had planned a press conference to unveil the Spain Under-21 international at their Bodymoor Heath training ground on Tuesday afternoon but have now been forced to postpone it.

Villa boss Paul Lambert, who is under fire from fans, has been desperate to boost their creativity after just 11 goals in 21 Barclays Premier League games.

They have failed to score in their last four outings and are three points above the relegation zone ahead of Saturday’s visit of Liverpool.

Gil came through the ranks at Valencia and spent two years on loan at Elche before returning to the Mestalla at the start of the season.

Villa have also been linked with Manchester City misfit Scott Sinclair having drawn a blank in 12 of their top flight games this term.

    1. thought it was going to smoothy to be true 🙁 sounds like they are moving the goalposts, deal could fall through. i have heard a few good things about this guy, some top players rate him. thanks bill for that 🙂

  1. What i don’t understand and maybe someone can enlighten me,is how have Nottingham forest been able to bring in must…

  2. Danny Murphy is LITERALLY making things up on TalkShite! And comparing Emi with ManU’s new goalie, saying he’s 15 years…

  3. To sum it up – it’s SCR that is screwing us up. Yesterday I left the match on the 74th…

  4. Indeed, the trust and faith is gone. Yesterday’s performance was wholly unacceptable, and I think unforgiveable! Out of the whole…
