That they’re going to lose, that is, according to what I’ve been reading during the odd chances I’ve had to look at the internet today.
How times have changed.
For the last few seasons, Leeds have been at least challenging, but it seems this season, it’s only their form in the first month that has kept them out of serious danger.
Their current form is the stuff relegation is made of and the team shows no backbone and fight, even if they take the lead.
All sad stuff and reminiscent of us not so long back.
Things aren’t helped by the fact that Leeds have around ten first team players out and they’re down to the squad’s bare-bones.
Things are so bad that I’ve seen Leeds’ fan’s predictions of a 4-1 win for us.
Which should bode well, shouldn’t it?
Except we’re the Villa and things rarely go that smoothly.
I see there’s mention that Bruce might change things up for this game and while it would be nice to see some of our upcoming players getting a game, I wouldn’t bank on it and I don’t see him changing much.
Kodjia will probably get another half hour, if he doesn’t start.
While on the face of things I ought to be predicting an easy win, we all know that we can sometimes seriously struggle against weaker sides.
And every time we go on a roll, so it seems the team have a penchant for giving us a kick in the teeth.
Hopefully that won’t happen tonight though and I’m going to have to go for the win.
I certainly don’t think it’ll be anywhere near straight-forward though.
A hard-fought 2-1.
Which will do.

imagine half of these burning up the Prem…me neither.
crashing and burning maybe
Snodgrass, stop cheating you idiot. You’re better than that!
I hate him…as I hated Young….spoil every other thing they do…want them OUT the club.
FFS Adomah. Ignores Snodgrass. Mind you – he probably thought he would mess it up given his performance tonight but still…
We’ve had more than enough chances to kill this game off
Samba on for Onomah.
Maybe we have a chance of a goal now? lol.
A win is a win
Dogshit, simple as, imo.
Talking of which, I’m off to walk the mutt, while I try to look for positives and bite my tongue.
Wasnt the the best 2nd half but we were solid and hardly troubled at all. Could easily have had another 2 or 3 tonight with better finishing and if adomah looks up to find snoddy. Big 3 points..pressure on we can sit back and watch it unfold now! Hoping Norwich and Brentford do us a massive favor.
Adam, my tongue is being firmly bitten.
I need to think about my review, more than I’ve done in ages.
And I suspect some of us might not like it.
Very poor but 3 points. Let’s see what the others do now.
100% correct DS.
But, jeez.
At this stage Badger it’s win any way you can. I’m frustrated at how poor we are in some respects. Considering the goals we have scored from crosses they are pretty abject most of the time. We keep making the wrong decisions as well – players shooting from poor positions rather than passing to players in better positions.
We lack fluency, and whilst I haven’t been convinced before it seems that team selection and tactics are all over the place in the last few games. Tiredness may be a factor but we have a number of “fresh” players. Onomah, Taylor, Kodjia etc. Interesting stat that we have the third oldest side (on average) of the division.
We didn’t have to work too hard to win the game which is a good thing. Onomah played well today, so credit where it’s due. Chester solid throughout and Jedinak looked comfortable too. Just lacking a cutting edge up front. Over to Fulham and Cardiff!
Errm am I on the right site? what’s going on yes we did make it hard for ourselves but come on we won, remember some of them have played 3 games in 6 days, 2 half was hard but we was in control , saying that good 3 points.
Bruce thinks it was two tired teams.
I’m going to contemplate that too.
Will be interesting to see how we play now. We have guaranteed play offs so will we play better or sit back more? We could do with building a bit of momentum, not just results but in the way we are performing.
I think I know what you mean DS villa, your saying we will now look at who we play in the play offs, we will have to see how the next games pan out, its interesting to watch how Fulham and Cardiff do in their games coming up.3 games to go hope pressure is in our favour.
Fulham look favourites. On paper their run in looks easiest. Pressure sometimes gets to players though. They are in the top 2 instead of chasing. Can they handle it? probably but fingers crossed for some results going our way.
Adomah looked lively when he came on. Probably best keeping him to 15/20 mins so hes ready for play offs..why no Andre Green again?? Not heard a word about him for a while now he would be the perfect player to replace adomah.. Not sure why Davis has been frozen out too i actually think he holds the ball up best for us and has a really neat 1st touch on him. Couple of kids that deserve a chance too..why not give them the last few games and see if any shine? Somehow i think Bruce wont entertain that thought.
He’s been frozen out because Kodjia’s back. Three strikers is what he’d want so Davis isn’t necessary. Unfortunately for him, we’re not in a position like Wolves are to bring in younger players. We need Kodjia back match fit and everyone firing. I’d love the kids to play, but Bruce won’t have it and I can’t exactly say it’s a bad thing for him not to do so. Looking at our bench, unless we drop a striker, there’s no one else we can afford to drop.
Anyone thinking Blues beat Fulham in the last game and send us up automatically, wishful thinking I know 🙂
I don’t think any of the run ins are easy to be fair. Brentford one of the best footballing sides in the division, Norwich are hit and miss, but can produce the goods (as last week). Fulham face a few clubs scraping to stay in the division. Cardiff have Hull who are in good form. The odds are against us, but I don’t think we’re out of it yet.
Good first half tonight, but poor second. I can see why Bruce freshened it up, but would have liked to see Hogan on earlier. The balls Grealish plays are primed for someone who plays on the shoulder of the last defender and runs in behind. Kodjia sometimes slows down the play by twisting and turning his man umpteen times which more or less tends to take any thrust out of the attacks.
Roll on Ipswich, lets really put the heat on the other 2.
onomah had a decent game but still gets shit from villa fans. this kind of rating of our players is reason why i question ppl knowledge of the game. or what it is they are watching. i sat watching the game. i saw a ok performance, we dominated first half and leeds came out second half having brought on their little Spaniard, who is probably their best player. they had a good 20 minutes and maybe villa had decided the game was already won. but they again took over for the remaining game.
onomah was amongst the better performers, i will say whelen was my motm. good win but nothing special last night, but it was what we should have been doing to hull norwich bolton and we know how they turned out.
kodjia got another 60 minutes last night. i personally would have played hogan. his movement would have been too hot for the young leeds defender, who was marking kodjia. but managers decision to give kodjia more game time in preparation for playoffs. if kodjia scored the winning goal at wembley the gaffer will be justified
We were ok in first half, scrappy but just about ok. The second half started awful but got slowly better, we are guaranteed playoffs so lets get positive.
I had to sit in the upper north stand and forgot what an awful place it is…. needs ripping down.
Well done to Steve and the team for qualifying for the playoffs. That was the minimum expectation at the season start. SB has won 2 out of 3 playoffs from here so we can remain optimistic.
Fulham have no easy task against Brentford. Brentford, the forgotten side of West London are always keen to put one over their more famous neighbours QPR and Fulham. They will have plenty of support for this derby game.
Making the play offs in not an achievement – the manager was given a mandate to get promoted. Failure to win the play offs should result in an automatic sacking for Bruce
Sorry V1 I have to disagree – I think the play offs were the goal with automatic promotion the ambition and therefore it is an achievement. Further, the worst we can finish is 4th which probably means avoiding either Fulham or Cardiff over two legs.
I thought, on balance, we did OK considering it was the third game in six days. Leeds came at us first 20 minutes second half but didn’t really create anything whereas we had three good chances to wrap the game up.
Off to Portman Road Saturday with my Ipswich mate who’s over the moon that ‘Mick’ has departed. He reckons they will play a very young team Saturday so it’ll be ‘kids v dads’ LOL
Just hoping we can secure first win in four away games.
oh dear fulham couldnt handle the pressure. brentford deserved the win let alone a draw. fulham were rugby tackling brenford at times. a get fredricks rugby tackle on watkins. not just cardiff hey, plus they were dropping deep defending. falling down playing for time.
Not Villa, we as villa fans should congratulate Wolves for getting promotion to the premiership, we now have a Midland club in their.
don’t rule out second yet – Fulham could quite easily lose to Millwall on Friday, we then beat IPswich and are a point behind Cardiff before their late kick-off – huge pressure on them. If Albion can win at Man U, Forest can win at Cardiff. Blues will beat Fulham.
