Villa fined £200k for pitch invasion. Scandalous. Or is it?

We all know the story.
Villa fans thought the whistle had gone and leapt onto the pitch to celebrate.
There was very little, if any animosity aimed at the Albion fans and it was all celebratory, from what I’ve seen.
But it was a high profile game shown on the Beeb and gave totally the wrong message to anyone watching, in that it’s ok to invade if you’ve won an important game.

Which would be fine, if it was just an important game.
As we all know, that particular game was, well, a game-changer for the club, one that, for me, massively contributed to the difference of us staying up or going down.

But donning a neutral cap, it’s not a good enough excuse.
While I totally believe the fans intentions were perfectly good and it was just pure celebration, I think, having had time to think about it, that it was an inflammatory action that actually provoked the Albion fans into their behaviour, that was actually way worse than ours.
My opinion says the Albion fans don’t really kick off in the way some of our other local fans do, is the point.

I understand that this might not be a popular opinion, but we have had some previous history this season.
We’d already been fined £100K for the Leicester game, a fine that had been increased after a previous £50k fine in an earlier game, that eludes me (Stoke?).

Don’t get me wrong.
I don’t blame the fans for this at all (apart from getting the timing wrong), but the fact that the game was shown live with the likes of Lawrenson saying it was a disgrace and practically the end of footy as we know it didn’t help.

Where were the stewards and police, who while I wouldn’t expect them to stop a full blown invasion, should surely have done better?
Penny pinching? Probably, given the fact that I actually got thrown out of VP for holding an unlit cigarette a while back (yes, it still wrankles, for those who remember the story. Pay peanuts, get monkeys).

Is that £200k actually a record?
I thought West Ham got the same for the fracas against Millwall, but don’t know for sure.

Summing up, yes, it’s a harsh fine, but are we really surprised, given that it’s the FA who handed it out?
They’ll happily sell their soul down the river and will do anything to pay off the stupid money that the unwanted Wembley cost.
I have the same opinion of those in charge of the FA, as they seemingly have for football supporters who are celebrating a win.

Barely comes out, refused to catch anything, and his throwing/kicking is just adding pressure on the already broken back line he is suppose to organize.

I know and that is why I don’t rate him – ever since his awful Euros showing a few years ago. Guzan may have faults but he makes up for it with his energy and willingness to devour anything that comes near goal, which in this game where we are playing a high line would have gone a long way.

Lets leave Hutton on but take Bacuna off. What?

One of Sherwood’s biggest mistakes today has been seeing that Grealish is being man-marked by Wanyama. Only one player is winning that battle, and it’s not Grealish. That and starting Hutton and continuously thinking N’Zogbia’s good.

Andrew…your talking shit about Grealish. He’s drawn 7, yes 7 fouls in this half alone. The problem is that we are not doing nearly enough with the free kicks! He’s leading Wanyama amerry dance but we are not capitalising on the resulting free kicks!

Not talking shit about Grealish though. My point was Grealish isn’t strong enough to take on Wanyama. In the first half he wasn’t able to do anything. Yes he’s grown into the game but he was still kept out the first half.

He has run rings around Wanyama all through the game….winning 9 free kicks which we have done nothing with. What more do you expect? He’s there to create chances/openings and thats what he has done in abundance! Have you ever watched a live game?

Many a live games actually, obviously not the Prem, though every game Villa’s come over to the US in the last 10 years.

However watching a live game means nothing, Grealish rarely got the better of Wanyama in the first half, did a much better job in the second.

By live..I meant actually at the game, not on TV! Its hardly the fault of Grealish, he done what he is supposed to do by creating chances, giving players ootions and winning free kicks all that were i near the penalty area. We were just too crap today to make use of them!

            Andrew May 16, 2015 at 2:59 pm . Reply

Oh I’m not blaming Grealish for the loss at all, I just think if used better tactically, then he could’ve controlled the game a tad bit more and Southampton might not have had a chance or two to score. Either way, doesn’t matter, team got killed defensively.

And as I said, multiple games live, just not Prem as I’m not English. Seeing games live aren’t much different though.

That 6-1 will haunt us you watch, Sunderland have game in hand, if Hull get a draw its down to Burnley game, we can get relegated, don’t think its not going to happen? It can. I’m worried.

          You’re worried? Shocker.
If Hull get a draw, we only have to draw Burnley. That’s it. You also realize that other sides, like Sunderland and Leicester, have to get points right? You also realize Sunderland’s game in hand is against an Arsenal side desperately trying to get at least 3rd and not 4th again, right? Probably not though.

Talked about the Villa with my son last night and we came to the conclusion that the attack is okay (so long as Benteke stays and Kozak and Bent do something), mid-field looks promising (if we can sign Cleverley) but the defense has been held together with spit and baling wire for too long. I’m not surprised they fell apart today if I’m honest. That’s where Tim really needs to spend next year.

Just hope Kane remembers how nice Tim was to him when he was manager and does the business for us today

Defence was a shambles today but tim has to take some if the blame for playing such a high line against the speed of their front 3, given was awful too and vlar doesn’t deserve a new contract! Koeman got it spot on putting wanyama on grealish, fair enough I think grealish did as good as you could expect against him winning fouls but that’s all he could do, the problem was our other front player nzogbia offers nothing except running into players and losing the ball constantly but still he’s at least got better movement compared to gabby who slows our play way too much, sinclair should have been brought on instead of him or gil if tim wasn’t so stubborn! We do need a lot of players next season, a LB, RB, CM, RW and a forward and they all hav to be better than what we already have not like lambert signing squad players! Spuds do us a favour please???

Turned the TV off at 3-0 and went into the garden! It had all the trademarks of that 8-0 drubbing at Chelsea. One of the problems with confidence is too much of it and that’s in part what happened today. Just the little I saw suggested Villa had just turned up expecting to win – Collymore described it as gutless – don’t think our Tim will be too happy tonight and a few might be looking over their shoulder come FA Cup Final.

Still think we have enough points but would have preferred at least a draw today. Bring on Burnley and the Arse.

We will not be relegated UTV
