Villa fined £200k for pitch invasion. Scandalous. Or is it?

We all know the story.
Villa fans thought the whistle had gone and leapt onto the pitch to celebrate.
There was very little, if any animosity aimed at the Albion fans and it was all celebratory, from what I’ve seen.
But it was a high profile game shown on the Beeb and gave totally the wrong message to anyone watching, in that it’s ok to invade if you’ve won an important game.

Which would be fine, if it was just an important game.
As we all know, that particular game was, well, a game-changer for the club, one that, for me, massively contributed to the difference of us staying up or going down.

But donning a neutral cap, it’s not a good enough excuse.
While I totally believe the fans intentions were perfectly good and it was just pure celebration, I think, having had time to think about it, that it was an inflammatory action that actually provoked the Albion fans into their behaviour, that was actually way worse than ours.
My opinion says the Albion fans don’t really kick off in the way some of our other local fans do, is the point.

I understand that this might not be a popular opinion, but we have had some previous history this season.
We’d already been fined £100K for the Leicester game, a fine that had been increased after a previous £50k fine in an earlier game, that eludes me (Stoke?).

Don’t get me wrong.
I don’t blame the fans for this at all (apart from getting the timing wrong), but the fact that the game was shown live with the likes of Lawrenson saying it was a disgrace and practically the end of footy as we know it didn’t help.

Where were the stewards and police, who while I wouldn’t expect them to stop a full blown invasion, should surely have done better?
Penny pinching? Probably, given the fact that I actually got thrown out of VP for holding an unlit cigarette a while back (yes, it still wrankles, for those who remember the story. Pay peanuts, get monkeys).

Is that £200k actually a record?
I thought West Ham got the same for the fracas against Millwall, but don’t know for sure.

Summing up, yes, it’s a harsh fine, but are we really surprised, given that it’s the FA who handed it out?
They’ll happily sell their soul down the river and will do anything to pay off the stupid money that the unwanted Wembley cost.
I have the same opinion of those in charge of the FA, as they seemingly have for football supporters who are celebrating a win.

Been saying he’s shit for years. Sherwood one trick pony lump it up to benteke and hope for the best. Teams have sussed it now

    2. The two centre backs are like cart horse’s slow, both backs two far up the pitch, Giddy got it right 4-1 oops wrong way round.

      1. Totally embarrassed MATE

  7. The worrying thing for is that this result will give Hull so much confidence and hope for the Spuds game!

  8. Fucking hell this is taking the fucking piss sorry timbo explain this fucking shambloic display

    1. No two ways about it Langford Lambert will be laughing his head off, this is a kick in the teeth for Sherwood’s crazy lack of Southampton’s team , hey we just score Benteke

      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Bring bk lamberk all is forgiven

  10. We’ll win 7-6

    1. They’ll never score 6 against our wonderful defence 🙂

      1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
        OohAhPaulMcGrath

They have scored 6 their first goal wrongly disallowed ffs

What the fuck is going on, am in shock just after checking the score

  12. Huge 2nd half for Sherwood. We will really see what he’s made of in the next 45 minutes!

  13. A different 2nd art or I’ll question Sherwood LOL COYL COYL

What a hideous 45 mins. Ludicrous mistakes, shambolic defending. The most worrying thing is that we didn’t make any change tactically after conceding the first couple of goals. Okora can’t handle Pelle, and his positioning and reading of the game has been awful. There is no defensive shield in front of the back 4. Our midfielders seem to be seeing who can get furthest forward, so the minute Southampton get the ball we are in trouble. If we could get away with 0-0 the second half I would take it. Looks like we are back to having to rely on other teams to do us a favour

  15. Hutton is useless caught out time and time again, mark you so is all the forwards we have.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

      Not as bad as vlaar

      1. Andrew avatar

Hutton is vastly worse than Vlaar. An awful player.

    2. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Vlaar and Okore should be dropped I’d rather we but a couple of reserves in

  16. marvin avatar

How is Given still in goal?

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

      Because Guzan is shit also

    2. marvin avatar

Barely comes out, refused to catch anything, and his throwing/kicking is just adding pressure on the already broken back line he is suppose to organize.

      1. Andrew avatar

Those are always the weaknesses Given’s had.

        1. marvin avatar

I know and that is why I don’t rate him – ever since his awful Euros showing a few years ago. Guzan may have faults but he makes up for it with his energy and willingness to devour anything that comes near goal, which in this game where we are playing a high line would have gone a long way.

          1. Andrew avatar

I also agree with that. Never rated Given either.

  17. Andrew avatar

Lets leave Hutton on but take Bacuna off. What?

One of Sherwood’s biggest mistakes today has been seeing that Grealish is being man-marked by Wanyama. Only one player is winning that battle, and it’s not Grealish. That and starting Hutton and continuously thinking N’Zogbia’s good.

    1. Don’t believe that myself, have you seen all our balls going into the forwards are wild high kicks.?

    2. Andrew…your talking shit about Grealish. He’s drawn 7, yes 7 fouls in this half alone. The problem is that we are not doing nearly enough with the free kicks! He’s leading Wanyama amerry dance but we are not capitalising on the resulting free kicks!

      1. Andrew avatar

Not talking shit about Grealish though. My point was Grealish isn’t strong enough to take on Wanyama. In the first half he wasn’t able to do anything. Yes he’s grown into the game but he was still kept out the first half.

        1. He has run rings around Wanyama all through the game….winning 9 free kicks which we have done nothing with. What more do you expect? He’s there to create chances/openings and thats what he has done in abundance! Have you ever watched a live game?

          1. Andrew avatar

Many a live games actually, obviously not the Prem, though every game Villa’s come over to the US in the last 10 years.

However watching a live game means nothing, Grealish rarely got the better of Wanyama in the first half, did a much better job in the second.

          2. By live..I meant actually at the game, not on TV! Its hardly the fault of Grealish, he done what he is supposed to do by creating chances, giving players ootions and winning free kicks all that were i near the penalty area. We were just too crap today to make use of them!

          3. Andrew avatar

Oh I’m not blaming Grealish for the loss at all, I just think if used better tactically, then he could’ve controlled the game a tad bit more and Southampton might not have had a chance or two to score. Either way, doesn’t matter, team got killed defensively.

And as I said, multiple games live, just not Prem as I’m not English. Seeing games live aren’t much different though.

          4. Seeing games live as opposed to TV is chalk and cheese…it really is!

    3. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Don’t no why everyone is blaming Hutton. He played out of position for starters though Sherwood should have put that reserve left bk on. Another mon playing players out of position

      1. That 6-1 will haunt us you watch, Sunderland have game in hand, if Hull get a draw its down to Burnley game, we can get relegated, don’t think its not going to happen? It can. I’m worried.

        1. Andrew avatar

          You’re worried? Shocker.
If Hull get a draw, we only have to draw Burnley. That’s it. You also realize that other sides, like Sunderland and Leicester, have to get points right? You also realize Sunderland’s game in hand is against an Arsenal side desperately trying to get at least 3rd and not 4th again, right? Probably not though.

  18. in a strange way this could of came at a good time at least tim can see the shortcomings of some established players

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Sherwood would of learned a lot today tbh. Especially about vlaar and hopefully shipping him of in the summer

  19. To many reading to much into this game. We’ve been on the beach since we assured our prem safety last week. Relax lads, we’re safe. 🙂

    1. Are we B6, you mean you think so, a massive clear out is required from goalkeeping to full backs, central defending, and midfield. then I’d be happy. What a shower today’s players are, all asleep and never been in the game. 6-1 disaster.

      1. Chill Bill………we’re safe First bad result since Sherwood has been here and you’re demanding a massive clear out?? That’s hilarious ha ha ha.

    2. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Here we go another apologist give them time etc. We Havnt assured safety yet so ur talking piffle. I didn’t expect a win today but didn’t expect us to be a shambles

      1. Tottenham are winning, which means Hull won’t be able to catch us up because they are 4 points behind us and you only get 3 points for a win and there is only one game left. How’s that talking piffle? I LOVE BEING AN APOLOGIST. 🙂

  20. FFS…I was looking forward to a relaxed Saturday afternoon. Ah well, the party has been delayed until 5PM.

    We will NOT be relegated!

Given, Vlaar, Hutton, Zog…all need to move on. Bless ’em!!!

    1. Bless em!! I’d fucking shoot them.

Been having a bad day for 3 years now. Sherwood saying it’s the worst 45 mins they played for him that maybe so but still dosnt excuse getting annihilated like that

  22. Taking the piss timbo you exempt from criticism either vlaar fuck off now

  23. Andrew avatar

Westwood seriously has to keep that down.

  24. marvin avatar

I will be surprised if Sherwood doesn’t take full responsibility for this game – tactically nothing has gone right today.
