God knows what that picture’s about, but it works for me!
I don’t know why really, but I’ve been looking forward to this fixture, nearly as much as the away version.
I mean, with the utmost respect, Burton are a nothing club, aren’t they?
They’ve had a very decent rise from non-league footy, but their ground only holds around 10,000, which will make the clamour for tickets at the Pirelli interesting when we play them away.
Which brings me to the attendance for this game and it’s officially a sell-out.
Given that it’ll be the biggest crowd since our 1-0 victory over Liverpool in 2010-11, it’s a very impressive attendance.
42,500 for a game against a minnow club brings back memories of monster boxing day crowds of years gone by and you know the atmosphere is going to be fantastic. Just as a footy match should be.
Certainly it seems that many other Villa fans agree with me that this is a tasty game.
Injury-wise, Steve Bruce updated us yesterday and it seems we’re all good, with only the long-termers like Richards and Steer etc being out.
On Burton’s side, they’re in even better shape, with Nigel Clough hoping to have his entire squad fit, which is a rarity at this stage of the season.
Not that any of that matters, as I fully expect the Villa to win this one.
I know, I know, I really ought to know better than to be so confident, but I can’t help but feel we should beat Burton comfortably.
The biggest problem I see is that we know Burton are probably going to park the bus. Combine that with the fact that we don’t create much and struggle to score and it could prove tough going, although I think we’ll have enough to overcome them.
But if you look at Burton’s away record, along with Rotherham, it’s the worst in the league and they haven’t won one.
A look at the league table shows we have the second worst away record with only two wins, but that’s another issue.
Our home record is much better though and we’ve won the last four league games, with the draw against Wolves being the only blip under Steve Bruce. It seems VP is becoming a fortress again.
Hence I can’t see Burton getting anything out of this game.
How we’re going to play it is another question though.
I’ve seen that Bruce has said he might change it up again and it makes sense, seeing as we have three games in a week.
So I don’t have a clue how we might line up.
As I’ve said, I can’t see past a Villa win, although I suspect if we can’t get the early goal, it might be a bit of a grind. Once we get one though, I’d expect the game to get easier.
Villa 2-0
Here’s wishing all readers and Villa fans everywhere a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!

God badger is that our centre forward Or our new back.? Yes interesting day coming up , this will say who we are, Merry Christmas all you posters , its got better from the Robo days.
Well probably less controversial, but maybe a bit more boring, I reckon Bill.
Cheers for the comments and have a good ‘un 🙂
Really wish I was going to this one, but I was unsure about the work situation.
I nearly had a panic attack just, as I realised the Leeds game is on the 29th and I’m down to work that day.
Fortunately it’s a night game, so I should get to watch it 🙂
Happy Christmas Badger – thanks for the photo – not your missus by any chance!?
We should beat Burton but banana skins abound in this league and we’re prone to finding them. If we’re going to seriously challenge the play off places we need to put a winning run together – 4 or 5 games – anybody know when that last happened?
Also going to the Leeds game with a few of the family in a box courtesy of my daughters company – two more home wins will do for me.
I wish!
Although she was very tasty in a sultry way in her day 🙂
You’re right, it’s another banana skin that we might fall a cropper too, as wer’e horrendous at ending poor runs for the oppo.
But I can’t be thinking like that and we will beat them, no worries.
The bird is from an Indonesian Gambling site. Since the country is muslim and used to women in personal tents, this is one way of attracting customers. Odder still is by clicking any of the birds on show brings up script in Hebrew. Maybe Mossad are running it. Quite what she has to do with Villa I don’t know since the betting only concerns the top European leagues not the Championship.
Who’s the wench in the picture a new signing I hope open my eyes
4-0 VILLA merry Christmas 🎄
I am confident we will pick up 6pts in the next two games . Very nice picture I just might give her call lol. Happy Xmas to all. UTV
We will beat Burton but can’t see us beating Leeds probably a 1.1 draw
Trust you to put a dampener on things.
Sod Leeds, this is about Burton Albion and we’ll beat them.
We’ll beat Leeds too, as they really aren’t as good as you remember in your old fashioned mind. They were lucky to beat us on their turf, as you should remember, if you hadn’t such a pessimistic view.
Whenever I see bits of Burton action they always seem to score…..twice against the Blues….lol
Can see they buggering up my Xmas.
Nah, I’m as confident as can be.
But yes, I do have worries that they’ll turn us over.
Merry Christmas all Villans! Here’s to a cracking 22017!!!!!!
MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎄 TO ALL MY FELLOW VILLANS OUT THERE GET IT DOWN YER 🍻 🍷🍺🍸🍾🍹
Merry Christmas too all villa fans and especially to the decent people who run a nice website, creating a place where we can all bounce off one another and let off steam, when our one thing in common lets us down. which has been often in the past too many years.
but i see a bright and exciting times ahead in 2017 :)))))))) party hard ltrs
ps did she come out of a Christmas cracker or what, i will have to make do with a paper hat and a bad joke
Cheers Nath.
You too.
Seeing as Liverpool are supposedly after Amavi, I have a question.
Would you sell him at £25 mill?
Yes I would. Nothing less than £20M though! Money in the bank means nothing- quality on the pitch does.
I don’t think for one minute that Xia or bruce would want to let him go.
But £20-25 mill would buy a couple of quality players and could improve the squad.
You’d have to seriously think about it, wouldn’t you?
You’d have to seriously think on who we can replace him with. Most likely some crap British Left Back knowing Bruce.
You make it sound like all British players are rubbish?
Anyway, some might say weaken one position to strengthen two might be a good idea.
And if the likes of Pool are going to come in, we’re going to lose him anyway, eventually.
joe bennett kieran richardson tony moon cissko we have been spoilt with left backs
Merry Christmas lads, let this be our year.
You too Bill.
As Giddy would say, get it down ya! 🙂
No YER 🍻 😁
I’m surprised Tom Huddlestone of Hull hasn’t been mentioned yet as a potential signing.
Think Huddlestone and Will Hughes of Derby would solve our midfield issue.
Throw Jedinak in there as well with Gardner and Tish as back up and that is a pretty decent midfield for this level.
Good call, but I doubt we’d be able to prise them away.
Merry Christmas all !!
Well I am going to the Burton game….thanks to a Christmas pressie ticket.Used to go every home Xmas game but after the 0-0 against Sunderland vowed never again….and a bonus that tickets are only 25 quid.
Bad news is can’t remember last time I have seen us win at Xmas…..ccome on Santa Bruce fix it for us.
*******have a great XMAS and a very happy new year******
UTV
Blimey, we haven’t won a boxing day game since 2005!
Yet another negative record for SB to sink then!
Yep, fingers crossed.
According to the Mirror we are now being linked with Smithees at QPR as ‘Bruce searches for a new number one GK’ – £4m being quoted and suggestions QPR might find it difficult to keep him. Thoughts?
I know we all hate more powerful clubs like Pool sniffing around our better players but we use our muscle just the same albeit in the Championship!
He didn’t seem anything special when we played them, which is about all I’ve got to go on.
If Gollini’s going Smithees doesn’t seem a particularly inspired choice really, just standard fayre.
happy boxing day lol iam sick of this festive cheer and good will to all, except bluenoses. time to get straight back to life and soccer. big sam is a good appointment at palace. he is one person who will use benteke in a way to get the best and improve him more as a striker. i think pardew was very unlucky, the guy at swansea before bob bradly was very unlucky too. managers don’t last long these days. i hope to god we as fans give steve bruce more time than these clubs. its hard for a manager to come in and change things to how he wants, while getting instant success.
i still think bruce will get us into the playoffs and still with a chnce of a instant return.but the success with bruce will come with years of him improving the club within 🙂 happy times ahead with patience
oh i forget the amavi 25million well i think its wrong to hold a player back if they can better themselves by moving. 25mill would be a decent fee to reinvest. would be a shame to sell but we have nothing to bargain with at present
Morning lads, anyone know of a stream on the game? Stuck in the house wife not well thought I could cheer myself up with football game.
i don’t think we are on bill 🙁 but there are other games lol to watch 🙂 next year in the bigleague we wil be back each game. but in championship no links unless we on tv 🙁
Thanks Nath,
Probably chance around the world looking just in case a foreign country has the rights.
i cant find my way to anything but if you find a channel share this with me 🙂 i can find the sky games and other cable games but if they arent on these channels i cant find any championship games frustrating and thats why i got this lol
I have in the past found it in Canadian tv and if I fine it let you know Nath.
you have 🙂 their might be some hope then i was planning my day around other games and watch vidiprinter for ours
So Burton are a nothing club, totally disrespectful, my other club Hereford United, now FC have been called that and given many a bigger club a bloody nose. Burton have done amazing to get to where they are, and are one of the biggest football stories in the last ten years for me. They will make us fight all the way for the points today, I hope we win but I’m not overly confident.
No, it’s not disrespectful and I did say that in the post.
But it is factual in that they’ve won nothing.
But yes, they have done pretty well and I have a warm spot for them.
As for links, I’m seeing Cricfree and Mediazone (Google) but I’m not at all confident they’ll actually have streams.
No Burton preview lads or is everyone pissed?? 🍷😊 I’m going 6-0 VILLA that’d be a great Christmas present 🎁 UTV SOTC GET IT DOWN YER 🍻 LADS
I think we’ll win today but I suspect that Burton will put their best foot forward against their neighbours so I’ll predict 2-1 to the Villa.
Don’t mind us winning by the odd goal so long as we collect the points. If we could get a win against Leeds and all 6 points it would be a nice way to end the year.
The window’s open on Jan 1 and I’m expecting a busy time at VP. I’ll be really interested to see who come and who goes, By Jan 31 I’m hoping that we’ll have a team that will give us a good shot at a play-off spot. After that it’s in the lap of the gods.
Now that prospect certainly looked extremely unlikely a quarter of the way or so through the season but with SB in place I’m really optimistic that we’ll do it.
