It’s just a quick one to say well done lads.
We were somewhat unlucky in the end, with Konsa having a free header chance that he couldn’t connect with and Maatsen having a nice shot, amongst other chances, but PSG’s superiority in the first half gave them the edge.
It turned out to be a decent game in the end, as much as I thought the ref was terrible and gave us nothing, but I still find myself asking why we were nowhere near matching PSG’s intensity in the first half, but bested them in the second?
The first 45, I thought we were useless, but I was perplexed when Unai was walking off at half time, basically laughing. Is it possible that the half went exactly as the manager expected or, perish the thought, actually wanted?
Second half, it was a different game, where we were better than them, the total opposite of the first half and I was reminded of Ali’s “rope a dope” tactics. Certainly, it can’t be possible that a manager’s teamtalk alone can provide such totally different halves. Can it?
Colour me totally confused, but either Emery’s tactics were poor or there’s still a nagging mental issue in the side.
I find both options difficult to accept and will remain perplexed.
Never mind. It’s been a great run and for those who were there, it sounded brilliant. The fan’s did themselves proud and it’s all helped put the club’s name on the worldwide stage.
And it’s all thanks to Unai, whose tactics continue to baffle me at times.
We go again next season, more experienced and hopefully with an even better squad.
UTV!
Gutted, but a lot better than I was expecting after that poor first half.
Good write up matey, absolutely gutted, I didn’t think they were all that, lightweight, no centre forward so easy to defend against.
Had we had more belief in the first leg and not believed the bullshit, I believe we had enough to turn them over but it wasn’t to be.
PSG were lightning quick from defence to attack with just a few passes. The first goal was a shambles from our point of view. Their second goal however once they won the ball in their own box was excellent team play and a great finish.
McGinn was superb and inspirational and probably should have stayed on the pitch but maybe he was running on fumes. Tielemans too helped to inspire the comeback but he too was knackered. I hoped the substitutes would give us the boost to get the 4th goal but Ramsey and Watkins didn’t really get involved. Asensio and Maatsen both had efforts on goal and Asensio should probably have scored as well as Konsa missing the header.
I hope we can get the cup exit out of the system and remember we won the game on the night. Our unbeaten run at VP continues and let’s make sure the Barcodes don’t spoil that.
Rooney commentating on what went wrong as a failed manager! Ironic!
Typical that they started talking about Rashford wanting to go back to Man Ure!
Derby, Plymouth ring any bells 🤦♂️
So proud to be a villan after that we were so unlucky and to beat them at home especially after the start was amazing what a night and it has shown us that we can compete with any team in Europe
Good times ahead and would love us to win the fa cup and have a massive homecoming in Aston that would be the icing a on a cracking few years in which we have progressed so much UTMV
Gutted but proud to be a Villan.
To paraphrase Dickens – A Tale of Two Halves’ – both for Villa and for Rashford. Terrible in the first and brilliant in the second.
Like you Badger, I’m perplexed as to why are performances seem to be Jekyll and Hyde in nature – the question you pose is a good one – is it a mental problem or a tactical one?
Anyway enough of my literary allusions!
Last night was one of the Villa performances that those who were there will recall in years to come when asked for their most memorable match. Even King George.
Finishing. That was the difference between the teams. Over both legs their 5 goals were 2 goalkeeping errors by Martinez, but clinically dispatched, and 3 shots so accurate they clipped in off the goal-frame. Once Villa decided to shoot rather than pass the ball and responsibility – we got lucky with 3 deflections, but on the flip side had 2 goal-bound shots which had the keeper beaten but were deflected wide.
I still think Torres is no CD, so perhaps Emery thinks Mings is over the hill. Torres has caused 2 Martinez handling errors because his feet arrived with the ball into the goalkeeper’s gloves. As another poster said – doesn’t he communicate with Martinez, and put the brakes on.
OLL I thought that and wondering what if . I keep telling myself we lost away but won at home against a top team we’re not all that bad, what if that third goal in final minutes what if Konya had connected and what if there goalkeeper saved them balls going in goal , so I’m proud of the team and thank them for giving me some happy moments. Well done the lads .
Oh my days can you believe Saka tried to do a Panenka???
So much for Palace doing us a favour.
Makes Saturday a huge game.
I want us to win the FA Cup so Palace getting battered is okay by me.
Are Palace saving themselves for the FA Cup. They haven’t got anything to play for in the league.
On a different note, did anyone else think Dembele was MOTM? 🤔
Dembele? Was he playing?
It would seem he’s an honourable player though:

I hate that. It’s MAN of the Match.
Maybe the high court decision yesterday will put an end to this nonsense.
It’s the same with cricket – can’t have batsman anymore – has to be batter!
Sounds like something you put on fish! 🙂
Barcodes to score 6 anyone? They have won five EPL games on the trot – scoring 1 in the first, 2 in the second etc, to 5 in the fifth past Palace. I hope Emi & Pau have taken note, Newcastle don’t need any help from the clown show.
No.
