Villa 1-2 Fulham; Just not good enough!

Fulham hadn’t beaten the Villa at home in around forty five years. Until today.
So that’s yet another record broken that we didn’t want and something that’s becoming all too familiar.

It was pretty much the same old, same old really.
We huffed and puffed and I can’t fault the players for their effort. Indeed they played a very pacey game, helped by a Fulham side that had little to lose in being a bit gung ho, something that you would expect to be to our advantage.
But the simple fact for me is that as low in the table as Fulham are, they just looked that bit better quality and had a fair bit more incisiveness about them.
Perhaps it’s down to our player’s inexperience, but I’m not sure I buy that excuse now.
It’s not as though they’re a bunch of 18 year olds is it?

No, what it boils down to is that we are simply not good enough.

I could go on about our chances, but at the end of the day it’s a pointless task.
We simply should not be having the double done over us by a team that beforehand was bottom of the table.
I could possibly live with it, if it was a freaky type of win; that sort of thing happens.
But it wasn’t.
Let’s not forget Fulham had the ball over the line a third time, all bar about a centimetre.
That’s about as close as you get to a goal and in the days before goal-line technology, it could easily have been given.
The ref didn’t give it anyway, but you know what I mean, I’m sure.
So it could have been 1-3 then.
Would that have been a fair result? Not really, but let’s take nothing away from Fulham, they probably deserved the win.
Which frankly says it all and begs the question that if you can’t beat the bottom side at home, who can you actually beat?
It would seem we have more chance of beating Man City than anyone around us in the table at the moment.

While I’m on a total downer, I might as well complain about our disciplinary record.
I believe we collected our 71st booking today.
The highest in the Prem.

Now while I know this doesn’t bother quite a few of you, who think that cynical footy is acceptable, I’m ashamed. This isn’t the Aston Villa I know.
For me the whole situation just isn’t good enough, something that it seems many of the fans who actually attended also think, from what I saw.
After we equalised, the crowd were great and really got behind the team.
Then when Fulham scored again, they started to leave in droves.
Give the fans signs of progression and hope and they’ll be there for the team.
The trouble is, I don’t see any signs of either.

Teams must relish the thoughts of playing against us 🙁

    1. Fully agree, what some of the teams down the bottom would do to be playing us next week, they were up for it knowing they didn’t have to deal with the big man upfront.they wanted it more than us,do the players think we’re safe now?

Enough is enough now, I am seriously falling out of love with my beloved club! Hate going to watch them and will not do anymore if drastic changes are not made. Lambert needs to be sacked tonight and every player needs transfer listing in the summer. Harsh but true I’m afraid, this team will do a Wolves if we are relegated this season. NOT GOOD ENOUGH pain and simple….

  3. It’s time for relegation. Villa need to drop out of the Prem possibly even lower than the championship. Drastic action required to get rid of Lerner and Lambert and get our club back. I don’t care if we have years in the wilderness it’s better than this embarrassing mess. I’m not looking for a rich owner just a chairman who cares and considers fans and the clubs history. I do nt want a businessman who uses his managers to take the flack while he lines his pocket at the clubs expense. Lerner go and take Lambert with you. Where are all you Lerner supporters now? Lerner out

    1. Ted im pissed off aswell along with every other villan, but don’t you think that would be a step too far mate.i think relegation would be disastrous to us mainly financially.yes get rid of lerner & lambert but i feel that’s abit of a knee jerk reaction.something has got to change though.

An excellent summary Badger. Yes the disciplinary record bothers me also. Nearly all the cards are for bad tackles by players who have lost the ball because of their own poor control, or who have no other way of stopping an opponent who is too skilful for them. Filth follows incompetence. Sack Lambert, give Cowans the job. There is no point Cowans training players like Robinson if Holt and Bowery get the nod in front of him.

As much as I love Sid the player he is not someone I’d want managing the team. As a caretaker manager until the end of the year fair enough but he is not a long term solution. I say go for pochetino saints are safe we are safe. Let him have 6 games to assess us then he can build the team us fans deserve in the summer. Lambert has to go

Lambert says Holt was excellent today???? Really? He did nothing apart from his goal, until that moment I forgot he was playing, Wiemann likewise. Sack him now the man is deluded….

Dosnt look like the clown is going anywhere unfortunately 🙁

    2. Sorry COE1982 I’ll give respect to anyone that did his job and Holt did that, Holt could not be pushed off the ball, Holt held the ball up well,Holt laid the ball off to players with accuracy ,in fact he was among 3 other that played the game of football, the rest dump them no pissing good. Oohah that’s me mate fuck it like loads that walked out not going again, disgusted.

If Villa do sack Lambert who comes in? The number of cards tells you so much. We are late to the ball defensively and when a touch goes wrong it seems a bad lunge and a card follow. You can sense a goal against is coming, the defending is terrible, the midfield has no flair and without Benteke there is little quality in attack. Where will the points come from?

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

There must be someone out there who is better. Problem though lies with Lerner no decent manager will come to vp unless they have decent money to spend. Lerner’s ambition is to tread water and stay up whilst raking in sky money. I can’t support this any more.

My last post did not post. That team is shit. Lambert has to go he is clueless. I am not renewing next season unless Lambert is sacked, i cant justify spending the money i do to my family.

The wins this season have been a case of papering over the cracks

Morgan, it seems that immediately after a game, the server is being overloaded by the amount of people reading. I’ll be looking into it, but in the meantime, I’d suggest you just copy your reply before posting it, just in case.
Then you can just paste and try again.
      Apologies mate.

does lerner not realise if we get relegated he will get nothing back plus bomb squad are still here along with lambert shite we need about 2/3 defenders 2/3 midfielders 1 winger andsa goalscorer i forgot we have bent but lambert doesnt rate him instead brings on bowery ahead off all young players how many young ones did fulham use

  10. markdrapernumber8 avatar
    markdrapernumber8

The fact is we won’t be relegated this season so now is the perfect time for change, if not Lerner at least our manager, get a young continental manager who knows how to play the game and can take us forward, it’s just before the window opens as well which’ll give that person a summer to bed in and get his ideas in place…

    fuck, I just woke up…

If Lambert isn’t sacked today, nothing will do it!

      OriginalLondonLion

Helenius, it may surprise you to know that a lot of the bloggers on here do not go to VP any longer, following the crap displays. Nevertheless with the computer you obviously have you, like them, can usually watch a live transmission feed. Though you may have to accept commentary in Spanish, Russian, Romanian. So I should believe them if they say they are not going, but still seem to have witnessed the full 90 minutes horror show.

      1. I think we have gone backwards because those players who Lambert brought in did show some promise, but under Lambert they have got worse, maybe the training methods are poor. Lambert will not be sacked as who else will come in and take over a club with an owner who doesn’t care, who does not have the same ambition for the club that the fans have. To progress the club needs a new owner with passion for the game, Lerner has brought the club to its knees, Lambert is his puppet and will be given a new contract, next season will not be any better probably worse, but we have given our approval because we keep going to the matches!

        1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
          OohAhPaulMcGrath

Exactly Len we have given the Lerner the green light to keep serving this shite up. As much as I want us to have full houses and get behind the players I still think we should bite with our feet till things change. Bottom line is we average 36,000 which is t bad for tge shit we serve up. The fans have more than been patient and played their part but bottom line is the players still can’t perform at home. What’s the point

      2. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar

So true. I had a free ticket for today and last weeks utd game so glad I didn’t waste my time just can’t be arsed anymore. And this is from someone who has supported the club since the old 3rd division

I’m beginning to think Matt Kendrick’s comment a few weeks ago, about Villa fans having no focus point might have something about it.
I’m mulling things over, as this can’t go on, imo.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Kendrick is a puppet that tows the villa line in fear of his job. If he could write what he wants he would be saying the same as us but if he does he will get banned from bmh.

  14. The point is being missed here, REALLY being missed. Yes Lambert needs to go But a change of manager will still leave Lerner. Lerner controls the club he will continue employing yes men. No decent manager will take the Villa job as long as Lerner is in control. The only chance our club has is Lerner OUT. Otherwise another second/third rate manager will cone in and do Lerner’s biding. Time for ALL fans to unite and boycott until Lerner goes. MY earlier comment is not a knee jerk reaction it’s time to strip the club back to its core and get rid of Lerner and those awful players.

    1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
      OohAhPaulMcGrath

Agree Ted but Lerner will not go until he is ready. The Browns had to wait over 10 years to get rid of him. We are stuck with him whilst sky is paying him millions he dosnt need to go. From a business pov I don’t blame him but that dosnt make me feel any better. The only thing we can do as fans is cancel sky, don’t renew STs and don’t buy merchandise. I will not put another penny in that mans pocket ever again.

    2. vila4me avatar
      vila4me

Ted, slightly true but im sure a footballin manager would not set his team up the way Lamber does.. im sure there must be someone in the club who can pass the ball forwards? if not all the coaches need sacking.

I bet you if there was a footballin man in charge today, robinson and gary gardner would of been playing

      1. MorganVilla avatar

Pulis a prime example of a manager who knows his tactic, no disrespect to Palace but most of that squad are championship rejects. We may have problems with the owner or the CEO, but on at least 16 occasions this season Lambert has got it wrong.

Lambert has to go i would not trust him with any money

        1. Bum Bum avatar
          Bum Bum

It’s a rum deal when we’d rather have Pulis in charge than the idiotic Lambert. At least Pulis knows how to grind out a result and use whet he’s got to the best of their ability. Lambert hasn’t got a fucking clue. If we hadn’t had those very flukey wins against Saints and Citeh, We’d be down this year. I agrwe withTed, tough love in the form of relegation is the only answer. Or a massive boycott to show up the Yank, but that won’t happen because of too many sheep with no imagination of what to do instead on a Saturday afternoon.

If it wasn’t for taking my son I would not go again this season . I have come to the conclusion the players are colour blind . They do not see claret . If buts and maybe’s but if Bancuna takes one for the team in the centre circle then Fulham would not score the 2nd . The season promised so much after wins gainst Albion Norwich and Chelsea BUT . I have never said it before but Lambert has to go if he gives Gabby a new contract . We are poor at the minute . We will survive but we will not win another game this season .

  16. villa4me avatar

People are over reacting here.. not about the result, the performance or the intire season up to this point. the fact is, it will take something just short of a miracle for us to get relegated this season.. I know we are poor, but the simple stat states that Cardiff and sunderland are equally as poor if not worse than us, yes, Fulham beat us today but they are still about 8 points away from us if you include goal difference, that’s 3 wins,?

WE ARE NOT GOING DOWN THIS!! THIS !! THIS!! SEASON

HOWEVER!!!, im afraid to say next season really worries me… Im gonna say fair play to Paul Lambert, he decided to give us a go, even with the knowning that he would have peanuts to spend on transfers and that he was inheriting a squad lacking in every department, crippling our club financially…. he took us on and he has done it his way… most of the big earners have been moved on, some are very close to being free, we have a younger squad with potential to sell for slightly more than what we paid for them and we are still in the premier league.

What are playing squad is now, is a championshoip level squad, there salaries would say as much, there all trying hard but some may not be good enough. When you only have 10000k a week for wages you cant go and buy rooney or Ronaldo.. my point is, the playin staff now in terms of financials, is where Lerner wants us to be, for what reason I don’t know.. but its fact!!

HOWEVER I have turned against Lambert purely down to his team selections and substitutions over the past few weeks.

playing Holt today tells me that most on here are correct.. he only has one way of playing and it involves long PASSES lol up to a big man.

for me, today was more evidence that lambert is stuck in his own ways.. Robinson is the 2nd highest goalscorer at under21 level, ok its a different level but the fact is, hes playin well.. Jordan Graham is another one doing his job well. what does Daniel Johnson have to do to even make the bench and as for Gary Gardner?

the subs he made against stoke? I maen why?

THank you Lambert, you have done as much as you can but I think your time is right to go

  17. I think it is time for peaceful protest. Lerner doesn’t care about the fans and he doesn’t want to spend anymore money but thinks we should. I think that all fans even with season tickets should stay away from the next home game. Lerner needs hitting in his pocket, the media would take notice, we have put up with this for far to long.

    1. MorganVilla avatar
      MorganVilla

I think we need to focus on Lambert for the time being that team is shocking. If Lerner does not back the next manager who in my opinion should be German or managed successfully in Germany then we turn on him and get him out and away. This season has been about tactics, we have gone toe to toe with Liverpool and Chelsea so the player can do it. Its the tactics that are not working atm

      Lambert Out

Nobody is shocked by the result and that says it all. Fulham’s first win at Villa Park in the PL adds to a long list of “records” the useless twat has broken. Worst manager in our history, to think we’ve lost 10 home league games plus being humiliated by Sheff Utd and still some sheep suck up to Lamberk, it’s unbelievable really. Nobody in their right mind can think Lamberk is better than Mcleish (unless they are a Lamberk Sheep), Utter embarrassment.

  19. OriginalLondonLion avatar
    OriginalLondonLion

Worst Manager in our history? That is a hotly contested title. Dr No, Houllier, Tommy Docherty, Vic Crowe, MacLeish. Forest 6 Villa 0 still rates with me as the nadir of games I went to, so Vic Crowe gets the nod for my lifetime.

    1. belcs avatar

Granted we’ve had some terrible managers but Lamberk is the most dislikeable twat to have ever managed us and given the number of negative records broken, the home form and the way he patronises the fans I can’t think of anyone worse.

      1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
        OohAhPaulMcGrath

I think fans hated mcleish more but i think that was to do with blues connection. The only other manager iv really hated was DOL absolute joke of a manager same as lamberk

    2. You forgot Venglos, he must be top of the tree.

      1. Bum Bum avatar

I think that was Dr No.

    3. Bit harsh to blame Vic Crowe for a defeat 12 years after he left the club…? Try Billy McNeill.
He managed to finish 22nd and get 2 teams relegated in the same season.

        1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar

              OohAhPaulMcGrath

True and I agree but 20,000 plus muppets will still renew so Lerner basically gets the green light. Even if fans boycott it makes fuck all difference to Lerner as sky is his main income what the supporters bring in is peanuts in comparison

We usually get that whatever happens ian. The villa pr machine will be in overdrive soon linking us with £15-20m players that we Havnt a hope of getting. As per normal people will be taken in by it

Its not lambert, anyone who’s knows football can see that the players are shit, that’s because lambert HAS to sign shit players to get any good(well paid) players off the books,Guadiola would struggle if he had this team to work with, who ever takes charge will have the same issues, the issue is Learner and his cost cutting(disguised as a “project”)because he wants to make money from the villa and not lose it,so if lambert was to be sacked or resign then nothing will change, the next manager will still be expected to manage a team worth £30 million in it’s entirity that’s the issue
