Villa 1 – 1 Brentford; Not again!

So once again Villa have drawn a game after we took the lead from a good Kodjia strike, only for it to be cancelled out by an 87th minute equaliser.
And quite simply, this isn’t good enough.

I said earlier that not winning today doesn’t mean the season’s written off just yet and I stand by that.
But we’re at least making things more difficult for ourselves, especially when you consider our next two games are Ipswich and Newcastle away; games I’d certainly expect to be even tougher tests.

We sounded like we probably edged the first half, but it seems Brentford were the better side in the second.
Again that simply isn’t good enough, given that we were the team at home. And no disrespect to the visitors, who were well worth their point, but this is Brentford, for god’s sake!

I listened to the commentary and you could tell the pressure was building after the hour mark and that same commentary became more and more repetitive about how we couldn’t expect to keep holding on and try and defend.
If the commentators can see this and keep harping on about it because it’s so obvious, you have to wonder what RDM’s thought processes are.
Surely he must be able to see what’s happening and it begs the question as to why he allows it to continue.
I wasn’t there, so I don’t know, but I’d expect him to be massively animated in the technical area and frankly doing his nut at the players.
I wonder if he was?

The salt was rubbed even further into the wounds when McCormack and De Laet had to come off injured.
I’m really beginning to question what’s going on when it comes to the fitness and conditioning at Bodymoor Heath.

However, I’m not going to let all this wind me up.
One thing I do know is, is that Dr Xia will not tolerate this sort of thing for long.
He’s already alluded to the fact that we shouldn’t be repeatedly doing the same things wrong and he will not leave it too long before he swings the axe.
He may have no choice anyway, as what was a noisy, supportive crowd in the first half became more and more tense and left RDM’s ears ringing with the sound of boos at the full time whistle.
It would seem the manager is fast losing the support of the fans.

I said upon his appointment that I thought he wasn’t the right choice, but I’m not going to crow about it and the fact is I would rather he sorted out this inability to win a game, as opposed to us having to go with another manager.

Last season we put many of our woes down to having fragile players, but surely we can’t use this as a reason now, as we’ve changed most of the starting eleven.
Whatever the reason we can’t win, RDM has to sort it out and quickly.
Because his days are already numbered if he doesn’t.

  1. Well we played Fergie time today by the look of it and we didn’t let them in at the end (although from what I heard it was close)

    A small step forwards perhaps?

Still 18th place and a point behind Burton isn’t what I was expecting after 8 games.

As for sacking the manager that is just plain daft. You have to give him to Xmas at least. Villa was a supertanker heading in the wrong direction and turning it around will take time.

    1. The bbc reporter at the game said in the end we where lucky to get away with a point , she also said it seems Villa cannot play for 90 minutes .

      1. Emphasis on the word ‘she’! Wonder how many premier league games she’s played! Oh wait! 😄

    2. Perhaps RDM should sign another striker as we only have about 10 and most of them can’t hit a barn door or are injury prone!

      1. We have some good strikers but if you don’t create, you rarely score, plus with little invention we do have making it difficult enough, McCarthy building a wall of 9 for 90mins made it tough.

Still not good enough though and some players like Ayew and Grealish really need to buck their ideas up!! I could mark Grealish, keep him going left and he has to end up going back.

Westwood was yet again a waste of air.

And starting 3 CB’s with 2 holding MIDs is just ridiculous.

  2. I’m trying to stay positive – now let me see
22 away games without a win equals our second worst ever run
14 shots without one troubling the keeper
    Only one win in eight
    Injuries mounting up
    Newcastle away next……..

    1. newcastle will attempt to beat villa. that will be a welcome break from the opposition sat in their defensive shape, waiting in their foxholes for 80 minutes, going for the win only in the dying embers of the game.

we’ll beat the magpies and end this nightmare period, confidences will flood back after one win, its always the case

  3. yeah result isn’t the best and performance isn’t too great. but clearly some of you under estimate mick mcCarthy teams. he tactically set up his team to give villa nothing, then if they were still in the game near the end they go for it.

i thought the system they used today, will work better then the system they have been playing. we need a win, like thats not a understatement. KEEP the faith

      1. villa need time to adjust and gel. the new players most haven’t had preseason with villa. so they are behind playing catch up. add to that injuries and the 7 teams you claimed. we haven’t been outclassed in any game. luton bullied us to surrender but had we taken our chances and the two that hit bar gone in we couldav shouldav registered more points. we will find our feet and when we do, we will be more than a match for any team in this division.

  4. Sorry Newcastle at home so there is a positive after all 🙂

Those that saw the game – how did Richards play and was Amavi injured or just playing poorly?

    1. amavi and bacuna both gave good width without supplying the killer ball they did offer crosses, richards was adequate, gave away a silly freekick near the end, over eager to pinch the ball, but the freekick was in a dangerous position outside the box centre of goal

  5. The lack of midfield is going to hold us back massively. Westwood and Gardner are nothing players, Jedinak looks past his best and Tishbola, whilst talented, is extremely injury prone. Other than that we’ve got nobody in the centre of the park.

Di Matteo already looks beaten to me and I expect in the background Steve Round, Dr Xia and Keith Wyness are already tentatively seeing who could come in. I expect a new manager by the middle of October as no club can spend 50-60m in this division and be winning 1 out of 8 games

  6. Correct CA Villan, the commentator on talk sport said this during the first half, “Gana gueye, isn’t he brilliant, absolutely brilliant”. Makes me even more depressed.

  7. Bring back Shabby, at least hes permanently up the field doing sod all. Another draw this looks like the Albion on the old days, win by one, lose by one or draw, most goals they had was 2,, someone said give him till Xmas? we did that twice before and got relegated? Didn’t we.? What hell going on ok don’t sake the manager , sake the effing coaching staff or the ball boys but do something ffs .

  8. Na (edit) that, sack the manager and his staff now
I think we all can see how this is gonna pan out!!
