A few of you might have caught this reply that was originally posted on Friday evening, but I thought it might be worthwhile saving it for an article.
It comes courtesy of KerryVillan;
Just thought I’d post this as a lot on here are always saying how terrible the villa are and how money hungry they are and everything.
I am in Birmingham for the weekend with the girlfriend to see the game tomorrow but went to the stadium today for a tour and get some stuff from the shop, unfortunately we were too late for the tour we didn’t know they only do it in the morning on a Friday before the match but I went to the receptionist and asked was there any chance we could get in for few mins just to see the pitch, she was really nice and called security to ask if they would let us in and they agreed, so another really nice security guard let us in a door and all he said was don’t go onto the pitch! We got to walk around all by ourselves take pictures and whatever we want.
Then we noticed a sign saying if you have a ticket for the game you can get a jersey for 10 quid, I got the away one and asked the cashier if the deal still applies cause we bought our tickets online but she said no cause it has to be a ticket bought there for the barcode or something but then her supervisor was passing and said she could do it for us with a spare ticket she had, so I got a jersey for a 10r and a free trip round villa park that should have cost us 15 quid each, whatever people say about the club today proves some great people work there and they care about the fans.
Also in the hotel we’re staying there is a woman we met who works here doing golf deals or something but she used to work with football teams and she said villa was one of the best to deal with staff wise and player wise compared to man u or Chelsea or the likes, Fulham were the worst she said haha.
Just thought I would put it out there.
Can’t wait for tomorrow UTV!”
Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the win that would have rounded off KerryVillan’s weekend nicely.
I just thought it was really nice to read that there are still some very decent people down the Villa and the club is not the totally soulless entity that many have accused it of being: myself included, I hasten to say.
Fair play to all the people mentioned.
In other news, we’re playing around with a forum, which will give you more of a social media type thing, where you might be able to respond to each other more quickly and on a more personal level.
The link to it is on the right hand side of the page under the footy odds widget.
It should be live, but I haven’t got my head round permissions etc, so I’m not sure how it’ll work.
Please bear in mind it’s experimental at the moment, so might contain some rubbish.
To be honest, I’m not even sure the demand for the facility is there, but it has occasionally been asked for; it’s very popular on other sites and we’ll see how it goes.
Any feedback, which would be appreciated, can be posted on here, if you can’t do it in the forums.
I’m thinking about the look and feel etc.
And can you even post replies?
I really don’t know, so would like you to tell me.
You need to login/register to post, but your existing credentials should be fine.
Thanks all.
When I was a freelance chef I used to work the Trinity regularly.I know for a fact all round the club when I was there and I was there near enough 45 hrs a week for a year & half the people there are fantastic.I also worked with Dave the head of the stewards you’ve seen him chubby chap about 60 wears glasses he’s a cracking bloke. The club is fantastic always has been full of proper people ready to help.I know Peter Reid quite well he’s the executive head chef he’s a fantastic bloke. The club does a lot behind the scenes that you might not realise and provides a great service to the community for next to nothing. Also when we had Acorns on the jerseys that was for free didn’t cost Acorns a penny.UTV
JayDee, Dave was one of my Stewards keen man in his job, the staff always had thought for the public in some cases ,totally different from the early 70s stewarding, many a time I’ve been called to the reception to deal with problem’s, ie . lose of ticket, late arrived or even lost items some being children, all in all credit to the club on customer service.
And the Pies are good !
Yes they are!
No interest or feedback on the forum then? 🙁
I like the forum, but I agree FEEDBACK would be nice!
Will have a look guys. I always see these pages as a sort of forum anyway…I always get the impression that forums are web chats behind closed doors!!! Lol!!
That’s a very fair point Bum Bum and yes, it is already like a forum, in the way things can meander off course from the original topic.
The difference is though, you can actually start your own debates easily as opposed to having to submit an article, wait for one of us to read it and then post it up etc.
See it as an option where we don’t lead the debate, if you will.
It’s also a good way of posting latest news; smaller stories that you might think are important for whatever reason.
All we ask is that people have a look, tell us what they think and if they’ll use it or not.
If it doesn’t look like people are interested, we probably won’t bother spending any time on it.
But if there is interest, we could probably improve it.
Cheers for your thoughts 🙂
Seemed a little complicated for what its trying to achieve. Might be better to just post a topic and allow us to respond on a thread as we normally do. Perhaps allow us to suggest topics?
Rather than wait for an article just post a talking point e.g. Oohaah has just said (whatever)….what do you think? and allow us to respond as we do now.
Patrick,
Perhaps allow us to suggest topics?
That’s exactly what the forum does, only better.
You don’t even need to suggest a topic.
You just post it yourself.
It is rare I post on here but I do check and read everything posted on here everyday and have done so for a number of years now. It is hands down my favourite Villa fan site.
I have had a look at the experimental forum, and to be honest I don’t like it that much. I much prefer how it looks at the moment. In my opinion it’s strength is in its simplicity. It’s just a topic followed by discussion and views – job done as far as I’m concerned.
UTV.
Thanks for the kind words Deferenz
Yes, agreed Deferenz, there is a lot to be said for simplicity sometimes and I know what you mean.
Thanks for the good words and your opinion 🙂
Don’t like it possibly because I don’t get,so it’s a thumbs down from me.
Get IT*
Now that its been explained I wouldn’t mind it, and I’d use it, but I have to say this site OK to me, I’ll go with the flow.
FWIW I think the forum looks cluttered and a bit unwieldy. The current layout is clean and easy to follow. Although the flow on here meanders away from the starting point, that’s no bad thing, and gives contributors a chance to make their points even though they are perhaps unrelated to the starting point. Most of us are probably too lazy to create a detailed new topic! Or is that just me?
No DSvilla, your spot on with that assumption, we do seem to wonder off on topics which is not a bad thing at times, I wonder if Badger did a vote column he might get a better idea of whether or not.?
Cheers Bill. How’s that allotment of yours coming along? You must be getting busy there now. My wife keeps saying I should have one to improve my stress levels. I just tell her she is the cause!
Well we have 6 plots at £5 a year if you want DSVilla , yes ready with onions and leeks, and putting up the Cains for runners, apart from that keeps my mind off Villa problems,
You definitely need some form of therapy as a Villa fan
DSVilla,
“Most of us are probably too lazy to create a detailed new topic!”
That’s the beauty of it though, imo.
You don’t have to create a detailed topic.
I’ve just added 5 or 6 new topics (if you’d care to have another look) in about 10 mins, with just one or two lines on each, for example.
Fwiw, I’ve just created a “General chat” forum, where people can chat about anything non-Villa.
Maybe one topic there could even be allotment-specific! (Bill? :-))
For info, I suspect some of you are thinking that we’re looking to move over to a forum based site and dump the current way things work.
That’s not the case at all. The main site, ie, this page will stay exactly as it is.
The forum is just a way to try to broaden things and it gives you an easy way to discuss stuff outside the main page.
I’m not going to push it too much, as I’m getting the feeling that people just aren’t keen on the idea, which imo, is a shame.
The idea was to try and create more of a community, but if it’s not wanted, that’s fair enough 🙂
I think it’s more the layout Badger. Maybe if it was a bit tidier like this page is (don’t know if that’s possible)
Yes, I admit, it’s very cluttered compared to this page, but to be fair, this page is probably as simple as it gets.
Which is fine (I like simple), but it’s also somewhat limited, imo.
I’m not sure how you can get around that and the truth is, we probably can’t, as the forum is a hierarchical thing, where you’re looking at more than one subject in an overview.
Which is probably why you might feel a bit overloaded.
That’s fine mate and no worries if you only want to stick to this page.
As I said, it’s there as an option 🙂
Ta again for your opinion.
That’s what we want 🙂
This is a great site. easy to follow good reading on it, My opinion is if its not broken don’t try and fix it.
Noted, Dave 🙂
Badger your new post not coming up, error 404 ,
