Terry Jones has submitted the following;
I submitted an article titled “Lambert Out” but it has not been posted and I am wondering as to why.
Is it that nobody wants to hear the truth? as some comments so far are still making lame duck excuses for Lambert’s failings by saying give him time to sort it out.
Sorry to say, time is running out fast as we no longer have a team that is worthy of our support.
Since Lambert came to the club he has spent somewhere in the region of £40 million but not on players of quality.
Each transfer window as one poster has said we are linked with players in the region of £10 million or so giving the fans hope that things will get better. None of these signings however materialise and all he does is waste money on players in the region of 1 to 2 million either from the lower leagues or abroad and all he says is the vision is for young hungry players and building for the future. This reminds me of the crouchy advert. Hungry for success? no way. They are only hungry for a bigger wage packet than they were getting at the clubs they were playing for.
As it stands the club is devoid of direction, ambition or leadership and since he has been at the helm we have picked up more unwanted records than at anytime in our great history.
So is it not fair to say that we now need a new captain of the ship before it sinks without a trace?
The truth is yes. Lambert was never and never will make it as a top manager. His record speaks for itself and unless there is change either by Lerner sacking him or Lerner selling up or new owners taking over and bringing in a top manager who can attract players to the club then I am afraid that the situation is not going to get any better soon.
All we are going to see is the demise of a great club we all love and support.
Lambert must go or all we will get is seeing our club struggle year in year out. I don’t think this is what most fans want, not after the past four years.
Your thoughts please.
Bill mate one comment i read on here was that Everton up for sale for ten years but would it not be fair to say they do not have the assets of Villa and most clubs do not as Villa actualy own their ground and quit a sizable amount of land adjoining Villa Park.I am wondering that Lerner only bought the team and the land assets are still in the ownership of Sir Deadly and that is why Lerner only as a 60% share holding.Looks to me as though we will never know the truth. But as things go Villa is a better prospect in terms of attracting buyers than anyother club as most rent their grounds.
I don’t think that Ellis had any more of aston villa, I thought he had about 40-50% of the shares, he sold his portion to Lerner and Lerner probably bought up other shareholders too.
i am not sure of that but i don’t think its a case of Ellis holding on to portions of villa. or that Eliis had any more ownership that what was sold to Lerner.
You know Terry that makes scenes , I’m bloody sure on that sale he (Ellis) sold only the club not the assets, would be interesting to find out, 🙂
AVFC is a fantastic buy for anyone.A club of tradition, success in every competition many times over we are one of the greats of English football of all time.Founder member of the football league a proper football club. All AVFC needs are its glory years back and rightly so….UTV…VTID
True JD lets just pray. Though I can’t see Lerner selling for many a year even if there is someone to buy him out. Iv seen some internet rumours the past few weeks saying red bull might be interested as Lerner deals with them any way in some business capacity. Though def wouldn’t want another yank taking over. Russian or Arab money please it we may as well stick with Lerner the next 10 years or so
That’d be something if Red Bull took over Villa. Because Red Bull simply don’t like losing anything haha. We’d be propelled straight to the top.
True but I don’t think American owners get it if that makes sense?
red bull sure they aint American mate.
Jay Dee no one is disputing that , what the conversation is how much did Lerner buy? It would be interesting to know, having said that it dont hide the fact that we have a problem’ you think not,i I think we have, I’m just waiting to see which one of us is right, interesting what.?
You’ve changed.
For the good or the bad Guest,? I don’t see a road to getting any better, not now.
The worst Bill, the very worst 😉
Oh. Dear, Giddy will be upset. 🙂
Has anyone heard on how Grealish is going?
OK Badger 123 some answers.
Delph. He is a good player, but not pragmatic. When you are harried by more than one opponent and there is no forward pass on, the correct option is to dump the ball back to the full back or centre half in the hope they can spot the unmarked Villa player. What Delph does is speed up to try and beat one more opponent, in which he is less than 50% successful or rush his pass at which he is again less than 50% successful. This is why he give the ball away in dangerous places and why opponents target him.
Guzan. There are four components to the job. 1/ Domination of the six yard box; 2/ Reactions and athleticism; 3/ anticipation; 4/ distribution. Compared with the EPL standard Guzan is only average at best, at Domination – rating 5. He is excellent at Reactions and athleticism rating 9. His distribution is improving rating 7. His anticipation is poor rating 3. Go back and watch the goals he concedes and ask yourself this question just before the shot or header is struck. “Can the attacker put the ball in any corner of the goal? Or only to one side, only high or only low. Once you have your answer look at Guzan’s position, has he moved already to cover the possible and abandon the impossible corners of the goal? You will find I think he has not moved. In the Spurs game he must cover the no-touch ball going in, not the possible header. At both Everton’s goals the strikers have to put it to his right or risk an off balance miscue if they put it left. Guzan has not moved to favour his right.
Gabby. He has actually played at left back during games when covering injuries and dismissals. He has already the clean tackle and speed needed to do the defensive part. Now consider him in the Ashley Cole role. The overlapping full back typically has much more space and time to deliver a cross than the winger. he is also likely to have a longer run onto the pass to use his speed.
An as you said yourself he would not be displacing an ace left back – we do not have one.
Still i am no nearer to finding out the truth as i wrote this articale hoping to come some where near to it.Have read all comments and must say they are very interesting. But the question still remains what do we as fans really want for our club is it to be a team that is content to be hovering mid to lower table.Or do we want our club whom was a founder member of a league that all others around the world have followed and modeled themself,s on Or do we want a club that as a global following the same as Barca Madrid and Man U as for me i think the latter is what most fans would want. But until we have a owner or owners whom think the same way. Then the same old question will crop up time and time again whilst the club is let stagnate just because of one mans vision i;e Lambert that is clearly not working.
The truth is we haven’t scoured the Irish leagues for all their remarkable talent.
Cretin.
I Probably agree with you on the owner point terry. Under lerner, we will never be competing directly with Barca, or Utd, but then neither will the other 15 teams in the premier league who don’t have shieks, oligarches, 800 million strong fanbases to fund them.
I would even counter why would you want to spend silly money to finish 6th or 7th after those guys? versus trying to do it with youth, young hungry players etc etc on a more financially sound basis.
What you are saying and what we all admit is we need the role that money currently plays in the game to be vastly diminished or .. an abromovich/ sheik take over.
We all want more for Villa, none of us are happy to wallow in mid table mediocrity or relegation battles. I don’t think that needs to be asked.
As for stagnating under Lambert?
factually speaking,
In the one year and 9 games Lambert has been in charge;
Villa are in a higher league position having got more points after playing statistically top teams vs the the previous year
Thats not open to dispute. That is not opinion.. that is the table, that is just win/loss/draw records that is just fact.
I don’t know what the truth is if its not facts however,
I don’t think you are looking for the truth though.
I think you are looking for a high response rate on an article with a touch of controversy in your title and theme .. which you have achieved and which we are all happy to participate in it has to be said.
outside that, its a question of expectations
no Villa fan would be happy to see us finish anywhere but 1st.
the difference is patience.
Lerner is lerner. he was our sugar daddy then post O Neil he wasn’t.
Say what you will, its been 7 years.
Lambert is new as of last year. Like any manager he is not perfect.
As he is young we don’t know if he will make it as a top coach.
he has had a year and a few games so far.
the truth is that is not enough time for one mans vision to be realised.
Red Bull are austrian mate.
Ha ha hands up u got me there thought they were American for some reason. Anyway coukdbt see Australian owners competing with Russians or Arabs either
AUSTRIAN, jesus christ.
You and Terry remind me of the Chuckle Brothers, with a little less panache and half the brain cells.
Think you’re being harsh on the Chuckle Brothers there.
Vaze was going to say the same, we all have our funny little ways, I’m the worst for it, I think some are worried and some are not.
Great article Badger I have to say I agree with most of it unfortunately .
Lambert has had plenty of time to show some improvement but its just not happening , he insists on buying unproven young players but how often do jems like benteke come along ? Instead we are now getting the likes of kozak another 7m wasted.
Lambert fits Lerners bill perfectly buys cheap crap and scrapes to survival , both need to go in my opinion !
COLONIUS 81 some good points mate but i am looking the same as most fans for the truth of what Lerner and Lambert want for the Villa. Now you are saying that a year and 9 games is not enough time to improve the team.Well how about in that time Lambert as spent in the region of £40 million and out of all the players he as bought only one as shown to be a gem.
Now tell me this if there is a plan say what as been mentioned the 5 year plan how many more £40 millions is Lambert going to spend before we see any improvement in our fortunes. The truth is we as fans would like to know where Lerner and Lambert envisage in taking the club do they have the ambition after a reasonable mount of time to have a team in place we can be proud of again whom is not just medioca but can hold their own with the best and at least challenging them.
GUEST got to get personal with your remarks towards myself and Ooah.Mind you have come to expect it from LAMBERKS pr manager and chief lemming.Just because you do not have an answer to the questions put forward all you believe in is the spiel spewed out by your mate LAMBERK.
Oh i’m sorry Terry i forgot you never seem to get personal when calling any fan that can see a couple of positives in all the negatives a ‘lemming’.
Ok lets look at this pragmatically shall we?
The answer you seek: There is no one defining answer, if in your simple world there is one reason and one reason alone we are in this mess then evidently you do not have the capacity to comprehend the ‘truth’.
The truth is we are in this mess due to a number of reasons, bad luck, bad decisions, the state of football today and the money needed to be successful, they are all factors.
Now, not one fan is happy with where we are, if any Villa fan out there is, then they need their head examined, we are truly awful at home, we are toothless in attack and our midfield simply isn’t good enough, we all know this, however, looking on the positive side, we are better off in terms of games played and points on the board, as Colonius said, this is cold, hard fact, and whether you want to admit it or not, that’s improvement right there, perhaps not the improvement we had hoped for, but improvement nevertheless.
The squad is marginally better too, albeit not much but nobody can deny that Bacuna and Luna have improved our first eleven. They may not be setting the world alight but they are getting better and will continue to do so, fickle idiots like yourself expect them to hit the ground running but the more rational fans understand they have come from a different league into one of the toughest in the world. Any player can do an Aaron Ramsey and find their form.
Delph has been like a new signing too, so that’s 3 players improved upon since last season in my opinion.
Westwood and Lowton will get better and will find their form again, a lot of players lose form in the second season but do come back stronger for it and i believe both of these will in time.
Now, where i am in agreement with OohAh is that we should have got Barry back, i also believe we should have taken Lukaku on loan and used that £7m bought on Kozak on an attacking midfielder, why this didn’t happen i’ll never know, and this to me was a huge mistake, not one that will cost us our place in the league mind.
I believe we are 3 or 4 players away from having a very decent side, and i think Lambert and Lerner will address this, and if it isn’t sorted out by the beginning of next season then perhaps i’ll be putting my “Lerner/Lambert out” hat on.
But, i’m prepared to give a little more time as i’m not as fickle as some and understand to build from the bottom up takes time.
As for where they envisage the club being and their ambitions for it, well i doubt either want to be in the position we are in.
Lerner’s love child and Lambert’s lemmings, 2 failed attempts to make yourself and Oohah feel superior I see, Terry.
It’s what lonely, insecure people do Andrew to seek a reaction from others. It’s pretty sad really but being so stubborn and opinionated, like they both are, I wouldn’t expect any change in either of them soon. It’s obviously difficult for them to move on from the 50s,60s,70s,80s but eh ho, each to there own. On a positive note though I’ve noticed Colonious put up a justified argument regarding our progress compared (like everything has to be compared with in oohah and Terry’s world) to Southampton with oohah, who in typical fashion, when he’s proved wrong goes quite ha ha ha. 🙂
Hang on B6, you forgot the 40s, 🙂
Quiet even 🙂
B6 myself and Sir Ooah have not gone quite it;s just that some of us will not lower ourself,s to name calling people we have never met and whom cannot put a valid comment forward only to praise Lambert and saying he as taken the club forward when it;s plain to see the club is declining fast.
“Me and oohah have not gone quiet it’s just that some of us will not lower ourselves to name calling people we’ve never met” yet you call people on here that are supporting Lambert “lemmings” you call Lambert “Lamberk” now correct me if I’m wrong but that’s name calling and I doubt very much, maybe other than oohah, you’ve met anyone from off here therefore that makes you a bullshitter. FACT!!
Oh and if you hadn’t noticed the club has been in decline since well before Lambert arrived but such is your lack of knowledge you’re convinced it’s all Lamberts fault ha ha ha ha ha.
Terry I’m in your corner now, 🙂 🙂 🙂
You raise some good points Guest, but I think even if we wanted Barry or Lukaku, they would never have chosen us over Everton, who are a far superior team with a far superior manager.
I also don’t believe Lowton or Westwood will ‘find their form’ because they were poor players in the first place. We certainly won’t be progressing with either of them and the very fact Lowton can’t even get in the matchday squad any more given our state of affairs sums that up
Barry’s agent did make an enquiry but lambert wouldn’t even talk to him. I have that on good authority.
Poor players to begin with?
Lowton was being courted, albeit from a far by Arsenal and even Westwood was one of our most consistent performers yet they were poor to begin with?
The mere fact they are in their early 20’s gives enough time for them to come good, and i’m sorry, but most fans would disagree they were poor, only the fickle that want immediate success could see no promise in them. I saw enough promise to suggest they can come good, and if professionals in the game feel the same then that is good enough for me.
I bet you arsenal wouldn’t want Lowton now even if we gift wrapped him and paid then £1m to take him of our hands. The only time he was linked with clubs was when he scored a wonder goal v stoke which got him attention. The fact a makeshift right back is keeping him out says it all
