The play-offs; in the bag?

I’m going on holiday to Mexico tomorrow.
A big thanks to those who think I’ve deserved it and a big razz to those who think I don’t.

It’s a hard life, that sees me missing many games, but it’s not through choice, trust me.
The benefit from working two weeks every week is that I get nice holidays, as and when the time’s right.

And so it is, that I have to ask how we’re going to do in the play-offs, because I might not see the last games.

Second place isn’t decided yet, but I want Fulham to go through automatically.
It shouldn’t really matter, as the truth will always out, but if you wanted me to put money on things, I just think we would have the beating of Cardiff. Whereas Fulham might just edge us.

The Ipswich game was great, but that performance summed things up, in that we can beat inferior opposition, at a stroll.

Serious sides are a different game though and it’ll be interesting to see how things pan out.

I’ll be watchng and commenting as best I can

  1. Have a great holiday Badger. I went to Cancun a few years back and I would love to go back again. Moving house any time and having no dog sitters has put holiday abroad to one side this year โ˜น๏ธNot easy to watch Footy there so hope you get to watch somehow. Depending on when you get back you might be able to see playoffs.

  2. Yes enjoy Badger, I was in Canun 4 years ago and as Holte saying love to go back . Made a few friends playing water polo , one American chap gave me his police badge from New York. I’ll look after the site for you ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜‚, first chap banned is Oohah for lack of contact๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜. Hope you keep away from them TV s
as they have rude programmes on, make you ill, wi fi is ok but keep a eye on your phone I got one taken . Villa hopefully will do well in the play off have a good un .

  3. Have a good and well deserved holiday Badger. Never been to Mexico but it’s on the list somewhere!

  4. Enjoy your hols Badger and thanks for your efforts all season. Decent victory against Ipswich so still hoping for us to build some form and momentum for the play offs. They will be tough whoever we play, but I agree that i would take Cardiff over Fulham given the choice.

I’m disappointed that we won’t get automatic promotion, but the reality is we didn’t do enough over the season.

  5. If Fulham can pip Cardiff, I’d fancy us a lot more in a potential final. A demoralised Cardiff are beatable – Fulham on current form are not.
    Big week coming up

  6. Hope Fulham pips them as well. They have two relatively easy games so I can’t see them dropping points.

Saturday is Gabby’s last ever home game. Can see him playing definitely.

  7. Would you all give Gabby a big send off tomorrow? Personally i would. As much as his career has gone rapidly downhill the last 5 years, i still remember the speed demon scoring for fun against Birmingham, putting his hand to his ear to wind up the opposition fans and being villa through and through. Been some top moments. All the best Gabby.

    1. No. at best I think he should be given a microphone to give a farewell speech at half-time but no way should he be involved in the match day squad. We still have a lot to play for and there’s others that warrant a place well before him.

I thank him for the goals against Small Heath but the way he has rinsed the club over the last 5 years and the way he went missing when we got relegated has made a lot of peoples minds up, including mine.

He could of easily gone down as a legend of our great club but decided against it.

      The club owe him nothing.

      UTV.

      1. I wouldnt play him or have him in the match day squad..i meant just wheel him out to the centre circle for a quick applaud. At the end of the day it was the club that decided to give him new contracts. You wouldnt turn it down if offered would you? I deffo wouldnt! ๐Ÿ˜

        1. No you’re right I wouldn’t turn the offer of a new contract down. But then I wouldn’t take the piss by robbing a living and being so disrespectful to the club and supporters I claimed to love.

  8. Adam, I understand what your saying and yes a recognition of the past with a hand clap would be all, B6 saying the same as I’ve been thinking he’s road his luck for year’s acting like he has, it still not clear if he was one of the players that unsettled the changing room. Hes been paid well for all them years but I’m glad he’s going. UTV.

  9. Gabby was decent until he decided to bulk up. I remember Oโ€™Neill saying he was doing the wrong thing. He lost a bit of speed in the hope he could out muscle defenders and became more injury prone. My opinion is I would have him on the bench and if we are winning by a couple of goals then bring him on for last 5 minutes. When Fulham win tonight it wonโ€™t be crucial if we win anyway other than momentum. I totally understand that he has been an arse but he has had good moments too. We all love Grealish at the moment despite him being an arse until Bruce got hold of him. Just saying!

    1. To be fair to Grealish he has made mistakes but has also shown massive signs of maturity. He’s won over the fans and club by learning from his mistakes and becoming a decent player.

Said it before Gabby could of gone down as a club legend, he chose to go the other way.

  10. I’d let him say a thank you at half time so everyone can throw Fray Bentos pies at him.

      1. That’s brilliant B6 – love it.

Some very fair comments on here re Gabby. For me – I supported him and kept an open mind (e.g. – accusations of being a disruptive influence) even when others were tearing him down. I even thought he was going to ‘redeem’ himself after that first game against Hull. I wanted him to succeed.

The truth is I feel mightedly let down (as I suspect does SB) and it’s unsurprising that we hear nothing about him from the club. Sad when even Micah Richard gets supporting noises!

I’m sure no one would deny him a farewell in front of the Holte End whom I’m sure will applaud him even though in my eyes he’s taken 5 years money for pretty much nothing (remember Bruce’s frustration at him refusing a loan deal!) – even allowing for scoring against Small Heath. But no way should be part of Saturday’s game – that would be unacceptable.

Good bye Gabby – sadly I doubt you will be missed or remembered fondly.

  11. fulham got out of jail there with alittle help from the officials. no way should or would a referee with normal eye sight fail to see that foul. unless he was bought, cheating fookers.

fulham have everybody running scared. but they are nothing special. if you stand off them, they will wear you down and you will lose. but if you turn them around they are nothing special. they will concede goals.

i thought sunderland had controlled them really easy and with a fairer referee they would have been 2 nil up

  12. Yep, agree Sunderland denied a stonewall penalty and in the counter attack Fulham scored – no way did they deserve to be level half time. Given the good fortune that appears to be going their way then they will get second.

  13. i hope that ref and his two bum mates get paid well. they deserve it. cheating fookers. fulham scored a great offside goal. sunderland were also to blame putting a non defender on mitrobitch, instead of oshea marking him. but he was offside anyways. no wonder they are 22 unbeaten if they got the ref and his bum cums on their side. 4 mins injury time but only1 mins played, i thought they were playing Ring a ring o’roses the way they were all falling down

  14. Congratulations to the U23’s – through to the Prem League Cup Final 2-3 at Leicester last night aet. 2 et goals for Hepburn-Murphy

      1. Our u23s have been top drawrer this year..hopefully a couple can make the step up and improve us next year.

      2. R they not allowed two overage players. It’s how we lost to Arsenal (think it was Arsenal) in the U23 play off. Someone will correct the details if I have it wrong

  15. The thoughts from Birmingham mail.

A stunning performance from Aston Villaโ€™s second string saw them remain on course for a wonderful promotion and cup double.

Their Premier League 2 play-off clash against Reading was firmly on the backburner this evening though as Jack Clarke and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy fired them to a stunning win over Leicester City at the King Power.

Clarke gave Villa the lead after 75 minutes before 31-year-old Yohan Benalouane – gaining minutes for the Foxesโ€™ U23s – slammed home a header five minutes later.

Leicester thought they had a penalty when Villa โ€˜keeper Matija Sarkic brought down substitute Admiral Muskwe at the death but referee Joe Hull bizarrely reversed his decision and awarded a free-kick to the hosts.

That came to nothing and Villa made Leicester pay early in extra-time as Isaiah Bazeley-Graham swept a beautiful pass through for Hepburn-Murphy to round Daniel Iversen and tap home.

The striker wasnโ€™t done and looked to have wrapped up a place in the Premier League Cup final with a stunning second. But George Thomas had other ideas and pulled a late goal back for Leicester.

The Foxes couldnโ€™t deny Villa a place in the final, though, and Kevin MacDonaldโ€™s side will meet either Swansea City or Sheffield United

    1. I was raging when Fulham got away with the pen….but then thought of all the non pens in so many other matches….we got away with a few and Cardiff were wronged a few times as well…..officials even worse in this league.

      1. Villa are the only Championship team yet to concede a penalty this season – hope that isn’t tempting providence.
