Sunderland 3 – 1 Villa; that’s exactly why we’re going down

There’s an old saying that says you make your own luck.
And the simple fact is we have none whatsoever.

Today summed up everything that says we’re going down and if anyone still believes it’s not true, well I’m afraid I can only say you’re deluded.

We were the better side for the first half hour until Sunderland scored from a long distance shot that got deflected leaving Guzan no chance.

Then we bought Traore on, who scared the crap out of their defenders and did well to set up Gil for the equaliser.
And then what happened?
Off he goes with yet another injury.

And then Defoe gets a chance where he only has one place to shoot (the near post) and Guzan doesn’t have it covered.
Shocking goalkeeping from a goalie whose confidence is shot.

Next up was a Sunderland corner, where it seemed we had 4 defenders near the corner flag trying to defend and no-one where it mattered, after some comical defending, resulting in Guzan again passing to one of our players only for him not to know it was coming and the opposition scored again.

I could go on about how the performance wasn’t too bad against another equally shocking side.
But what’s the point?

It ultimately boils down to the fact that if we can’t get a win against Sunderland, where do we see a single win coming from?

Wycombe up next in the cup isn’t it?
You just know they’ll want it more and I’m dreading it.

I have to hold my hands up here and say that if I was Lerner, I’d be looking very closely at what sort of players the manager wants to get in.
If any targets are aimed at Premier league survival, I’d say forget it.

This team needs dismantling, as too many of our squad just aren’t good enough for the Villa.

That said, I saw the look on Garde’s face a few times and it was pretty emotionless.
I suspect he knows what we are.
And it’s frankly rubbish.

May can’t come soon enough.

  1. Oh dear.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, Sunderland, of all teams put 3 past us.
    Shocking, just shocking 🙁

  2. I have no emotion left in me!!!
Can they please put the R next to the team and get it over and done with… 🙁

  3. Aston Villa boss Remi Garde told BBC Match of the Day: “I’m going to try [to sign players]. In life and football you have to believe – if you don’t you have no chance. But it’s more and more difficult. But every season in every league, a side can keep losing and suddenly win four, five or six in a row. But for that probably we will need to bring in one, two or three new players.

“Today I didn’t see a side who didn’t give everything they could. When you concede so many goals it’s difficult to win games. You cannot be positive when you lose. I’m not here to lose – I’m here to try to make the team win. Today we were so close. We didn’t play badly. I can blame my players in certain situations – when you concede a goal, it’s always from a mistake. I see a team who wanted to fight. But we need some quality.”

Need quality my arse need a whole team lol

    1. “Today I didn’t see a side who didn’t give everything they could”

That’s the trouble though isn’t it Turv?

I don’t think anyone can say they didn’t try overall (Grealish apart).
Which means we just aren’t good enough.

  4. Relegation is the only way, a complete overhaul needed. The last three games were our only hope of catching up. It’s over now, dead and buried. Let’s just start playing some reserves and get them some game time as I think we will need them next year. No point pretending to be what were not anymore.

  5. Mr Lerner
i hope Prince William bans you from ever stepping in the country again.
you tried to keep us up on the cheap and it has backfired.
thanks to your dad Mr Lerner you are a very wealthy man. just ask you mum to give you another toy to play with. this one is broken.

  6. Then why has remind not tried bunn ,Traore went off just after 2 goal we are garbage and Lerner signing players that’s the reason we are in mess Lambert great tenure has left us floundering and then fox o Reilly almstad sucked air from lifebuoy

  7. £100 mil wont change our course now it will be like trying to turn an oil tanker, sell who we can this window if Richards never plays for us again that will be too soon, how is that man captain, much as i think gabbys an absolute waste of a skin i could see him and traore make some mischief next year, dont think garde is the man for us either not blaming him but i dont think he knows how to set a team up or inspire them,we don’t get to see them train, but his favourites are the first names on team sheet okore/lescott looked the most stable back line, Sanchez is out for a bit why not play Richards in front of back line or clarke, the last five seasons we have no buffer in front of defence, previously they attacked our left back position, now other teams scouts know if they wait hutton will over extend and they can walk down the right side unchallenged.

    1. Problem with Garde is he looks like a wet lettuce. Hasn’t got an aspiring personality just a dull person

      1. You were saying how great he would be and it was exactly what we needed, a foreign manager ha ha ha

  8. no money should be spent this Jan for sure.. I have no idea how but we need to get some football men in at the top table. We can not allow anymore decisions to be made by non football experienced people.. And I’m afraid that means lots of people need to be sacked..from Tom Fox To Riley, the stats guys through to every single player that they have signed with the Benteke money.

  9. There should be mass protests or stay aways now with a very clear message. Fox, Riley, Lerner and the stats guys please leave aston villa fc yesterday and hand the keys over to steve stride as you leave.

    1. Gardi also refused to shake big Sam’s hand after the match too. What a pathetic show of petulance, tell Wenger is his role model but Remi you have to win things and earn the right first mate.

  10. All I can say is next season will be different and we won’t have to worry about the premiership for a while.Drop a league, clear out the shat and start a fresh hopefully with a new owner to UTV team for next season should be interesting to say the least.

  11. Garde inheriting a bunch of shit players!!
And getting the same results that other manager been getting??? Villa forwards are poor no movement in final third! Defo movement gets him 2 goal today.
We boss 1st 20min bacuna has time and space from 20 yards and can’t hit fukin target….vertout was unlucky with his strike they go up other end there first chance and score deflective goal now someone til me wtf can garde do about that?
We got 7-8 championship player who simple aren’t good enough.
    Brad G
    Hutton
    Bacuna
    Rudi g
    Kozak
    Richardson
Jack gea hype got too his head and think he don’t have to work hard.
Gabby but do think gabby offers more that rudi g

Transfer over the next month will show use exactly what the clubs intention are!! If we can make 4 good key signing think are results will change but as for premier league status it seems very bleak.
Instead of booing and castrating are team and manager let get behind them and hope and pray that we can go on a winning streak and put little pressure on team below us.

Just seen garde interview and reaction to Big Sam and he looks like his hurting and pissed off it wouldn’t surprised me if his speaking randy & co to sort the players he want to buy by the end of the week!

    1. Be very interesting to see how he copes with Championship football given his limited experience of English football.
Personally I don’t think he’ll see next Christmas at VP, imo he won’t cut it but we’ll see.

  12. This lot have never been PL quality in my eyes and probably never will be:
    Guzan
    Hutton
    Bacuna
    Clark
(Most of our mistakes/goals conceded have come from these 4)
    Gestede
    (Wastes too many good chances)

    These are past it:
    Richardson
    Lescott
    Gabby

The rest I think a good coach would get the best out of. As a whole, I think our midfield could help out more defensively.

Also, I think Richards’ head has gone in the past couple of games and he’s making silly mistakes – I think it’s pure frustration/anger.

  13. I think our back 4 should be:
    Cissokho LB
    Lescott CB
    Okore CB
Richards RB (like it or lump it)

Guzan should have been replaced at the beginning of the season.

And where was Ayew today? Another injury?

    1. It’s got nothing to do with luck that’s for sure. We were on top versus West Ham and conceded a sloppy goal. We’re not good enough to create any luck. I make that three goals at least that have come straight from Guzan throwing the ball to a defender. Thankfully all of the fans that were demanding Grealish start have seen him for the utter waste of space he is. He walks round the pitch as if he’s won everything the game can offer when the reality is, he’s done nothing. And as for the fans hurling abuse – you should’ve hurled bricks. Four hours up there in a hurricane and they walk straight down the tunnel? I’d put every single player on the transfer list and start from scratch. These aren’t kids remember, we were paying £8m for some of them. NOT FIT TO WEAR THE SHIRT.

  14. We shouldn’t be surprised that we’re doing so badly. We should be surprised we’ve managed to stay up for so long! For several seasons now we’ve consistently bought Chamionship players or cheap foreign players equivalent to that level or players that previously played for top PL clubs, such as Richards, Lescott, Joe Cole, Richardson, who were let go by these clubs because they were clearly past their best or not good enough. If it wasn’t for Benteke and Bent before him, we would have been down years ago!

  15. The problem is, other PL sides keep using the TV money to progress every season – just look at Stoke – and we keep going backwards every season. If other sides end up losing their stars (like Southampton), they use the money to strengthen the team, not to buy a bunch of second rate players. And we keep the players who are responsible for most of our mistakes!

Which areas have we actually improved in?

GK – still stuck with the same error prone keeper and 4 or 5 other keepers who we’re just wasting wages on!

Defence – still stuck with Hutton and Richardson and gave new deals to Clark and Bacuna (heaven forbid)! Swapped Vlaar for Richards, which I don’t see as a massive improvement. And swapped Senderos for Lescott, which I don’t really see as an improvement either. Bought in Amavi, but is he really any better than Bertrand, who I’m sure we could have convinced to stay with the right wages. Same is probably true of Walker.

Midfield – still stuck with Westwood, who is very average. Downgraded from Delph to Gana. Got rid of Albrighton, who always looked lively when we brought him on, and decided playing with wingers is old fashioned! Veretout and Gil show little sparkles of genius, but I’d like to see more from them on the whole. Adama is lightening quick, but seems to injure himself every time he breaks a sweat! Sanchez could be quality, but his distribution at times is troubling.

Got rid of Benteke and bought Gestede (no comment) and Ayew. Ayew shows potential and would have probably been a good foil to Benteke when played with wingers. Sinclair looks lively for 20 minutes and then fizzles out.

In short, we haven’t improved in any of the above areas.

    1. Agree Bencey83 and Benteke has gone to the wrong club imo Liverpool don’t or won’t play to his strengths plus he really wanted a London move. If Sturridge was fit we could of made a cheeky bid to take him on loan till end of season but knowing our luck he’d be injured anyway.

  16. What’s even sadder is big Sam has12 points compared to remi 4 same amount matches and the old dog out thought our french magician today let villa press to 18 yard line let Hutton cross to edge of box waste of time hit on break whenever Hutton does his normal AWOL trick score if remi was doing they would lording up new messiah not the village idiot remi is

    1. This is Allardyces game though he is too street wise for someone like Garde

  17. Sherwood had to go but I genuinely believe he would have collected more points than Garde. The manager has to take some responsibility for inspiring the players and building players’ confidence. It sounds pie in the sky but the board should make an audacious swoop to get Mourinho in until the end of the season. The Man United role is probably on ice for now following their win. Need someone like him to lift the club and dressing room and give the club direction. At the least he would enhance player transfer fees come end of season – you can imagine the likes of Gabby and Grealish being up for it with under Mourinho. What’s in it for Mourinho? Although he’s got nothing to prove it seems like he feels he has unfinished business in Prem. If anyone can inspire a Leicester phoenix from the Ashes, it’s him

    1. Why would Mourinho make any difference his Chelsea team are only 12 points above us and that’s with quality all over the pitch. He was a broken man in the end and couldn’t do anything to lift them and had lost dressing room. Mourinho wouldn’t come anyway not even temporary. There is no hope now if we signed Messi and Ronaldo tomorrow we would still go down because the rest of the team is so shit especially defence. Just accept we are down now it’s a formality

    2. Sherwood wouldn’t have got any more points, we were losing every week under him too, or have people forgotten that
And Mourinho, come on, regardless of what happened he’s still one of the most in demand managers in the world. You are living on a different planet if you think he’d even give the current shambles at B6 a second of his time

    3. The situation with Micah Richards sums the club up.
Nobody wanted him because of his stupidly high wage demands and insistence on playing CB, a position he is woeful in. But in came captain stupid Sherwood and gave him a long term deal and the captaincy on the basis of nothing… its pathetic. Mind you, we did the same with Lescott who the Baggies were desperate to get rid of so its no surprise really.
I was at the pre season game at Forest and from that game you could tell Richards has absolutely ZERO positioning sense, tactical astuteness or discipline to play at CB and that has proved correct every single week every game he has played. He is a full back and not a good one at that IMO (albeit better than Hutton) But the fact he dictates to the management where he plays and captains our club is a farce.
Don’t want to just pick on him, you could do this for 90% of our squad. Guzan for one has become an absolute joke. It begs the question just how bad are the other keepers at the club for him to start every game.

  18. i have a season ticket that is fully paid for and would have to pay someone to take it off me.
as i am nearly 33 and have witnessed some good villa teams and some bad this has to be by far the worst.
we are owned by some yank who lost interest some years ago and only owns us because no one in their right mind would buy us for x amount of millions as it would cost millions and some years of investment to challenge the top six again.
villa park will be one of those old famous stadiums lost to the fl72 for the immediate future and have to put up with channel 5 highlights.

well it aint that bad im back at work monday

    1. The side is even worse than the 87 team we had around 20 points this time and still went down. Worse villa team ever

  19. What an absolutely awful state of affairs!

We are clearly down. There is no turning this around now. Championship football next year and probably league 1 the year after. I’ve said for a long long time that if we go down we’ll disappear into the football league abyss like forest and Leeds! We’re not cut out for the nitty gritty of the lower tiers. That is the most worrying part of it. There’ll be no instant bounce back like the barcodes or any yoyo-ing like the old allardyce Bolton teams, we’ll be plain and simply gone, for years and a return might take a decade, if we’re lucky.

We were pioneers once upon a time the villa. Now we have Gestede. Any sane manager and his bosses should now be putting in place (if possible, which I think not) a plan for a speedy return to PL football.

Dear Randy, thank you not, you’ve made a mess of an age old gem. From an ordinary villan, who is completely clueless at how you’ve managed to do it.

    Vtid

    1. Agree teams from lower divisions are too street wise and will bully us all over the place. It will take us years to adapt and I can seriously see us going down to div 1 we are that bad

  20. We now need to move away from blaming managers and begin to blame the owner and the players.

I also feel something has been wrong in our dressing room for a long time, I felt this at the time when Houllier came in and went. We have players who get signed that look freat then they mix with our dressing room all of a sudden they are shit N Zogbia and Ireland spring to mind.

We have young talented players who seem to think they can throw it all away Bannan and now Grealish.

I believe we need to sell the whole of the first team squad and i also think we need a new owner who loves the club until then we will be stuck in the same circle continuously.

We have a collection of rot throughout the club our league position does not lie and the only two constants during our downfall is a core group of players and Randy Lerner
