Stoke – Villa; Another shoeing? and a POLL

After the debacle that was the Liverpool game, it’s yet again difficult to see us getting much against Stoke isn’t it?
Confidence is probably rock bottom right now and Remi Garde has commented on how he’s finding it difficult to get some of the players “up” for it and feeling committed.
These were comments that stunned me, as that’s about as close as you can get to admitting we’ve absolutely no chance of stopping up with this overall gutless bunch of mugs we have representing the club. They’ve given up already.
So it’s easy to just write this one off as another loss and we aren’t going to get another point all season.

But we all know footy doesn’t quite work like that and there are still points to be had, however unlikely they might seem.

The big question for me, is do the players have any pride and will they want to try to put the last game behind them?
I’d like to think yes and certainly hope so.
If they don’t at least run their socks off in this game, we as fans might as well give up too.
It’s not that I think we can survive now: it’s more that I want us to go down at least trying our best.
Anything less and I think I’ll be joining the call to get the kids in too.

Ok, that’s enough of trying to put a positive slant on things. I can’t keep the pretence up (and it was a genuine attempt, but there’s nothing to say).

The facts are Remi Garde has basically said the quality isn’t there, the squad isn’t deep enough and even though I’ve read news articles that suggest that he might look to put a kid or two in, he doesn’t think they’re good enough either;

“To run a football team if you have no competition within the team and within the squad it’s not the best thing.

Some of them could be [taking their places for granted]. This is not healthy for the squad and for the team.

But I’m not sure that I saw enough quality among the reserve team to put a player in a very difficult situation in Aston Villa’s first team at the moment.”

So there’s nothing to suggest that he won’t start pretty much the same line-up that he did against Liverpool.
Which is a shocking state of affairs, when a supposedly big Premier league club has no alternatives it can call on.
This is what you’ve overseen Randy. Thanks for that.

I see Gestede is in the running again and will probably get some minutes, which would normally be great, having a big fella back in to mix it with Stoke’s defence. But I think he epitomises the whole side in that he can’t rough things up and get amongst it, so will probably prove as ineffective as usual.

I’m not even going to talk about Stoke’s side or tactics, as it doesn’t matter.
It’s all about if we have the minerals to put a decent fight up.
And sadly, I don’t think we do.

I can’t see past a couple of goals loss, with our midfield being totally dominated, our attack offering nothing and the defence, well I’m not even going there, yet again.
But at the same time, I don’t see us getting thrashed either. Stoke won’t need to go all out.

God, we really are rubbish aren’t we?

I can’t see the poll saying much different.
