So it’s another big game, with it all being about Sherwood meeting his old club, Spurs.
Fortunately, it’s not a six pointer in the way the QPR game was and let’s face it, I’ll bet most of us are fairly glad about that, as the stress levels were certainly way higher than I like.
It’s obviously still an important game though, as we continue the search for the points that will keep us up; it just doesn’t have the same expectancy levels.
I’d personally be very happy if we were to take a point from this match but Spurs play a fairly open game, which might not suit us. This was demonstrated against QPR, where we can leave ourselves too open, which means our currently dodgy defence is prone to conceding far too easily.
I foresee goals and am going for 3+ overall. It’s been a long time since I thought that.
Plus points?
Benteke being on fire is the obvious one (and no, I don’t think he’s playing himself into the shop window; he’s just getting better service).
Minus points?
It still looks like we might have to play a somewhat makeshift defence if Cissokho doesn’t make it (see below).
Which leads us onto team news.
Hutton, Westwood and Sinclair are out.
Gil has supposedly suffered a dead leg and I’m not sure what to think about that, given the rumour that he was seen driving away from VP well before the game, having not been picked the other night.
It would appear Kozak isn’t considered fit enough just yet.
But the good news is Cissokho might be back after training all week.
As for Spurs, Kyle Walker and Hugo Lloris are both injured and Vertonghen (along with a few others) is doubtful, as it seems there is a bit of a virus going around the club.
Let’s hope loads of them get it eh?
You can possibly keep up to date here, as things will probably change.
So what to think?
I can see a good game and it really depends which Spurs team turn up, as they can be up and down.
I suppose you could say the same for us though.
It’ll be interesting to see how Sherwood approaches this, as I’m wondering if he’ll give his former club a bit too much respect, a la Man Utd, or just go for it like the QPR game?
As I said, I’m going for 3+ goals and am going to predict 2-1 to Spurs, with them just having too much for us.
I’m hoping for the draw, as I think that’s our best bet.
But one thing I bet I’ll get right is that whatever happens, it won’t be boring.
And I don’t like boring, so that’s fine with me.

I really think anything could happen in this one!
We’ll do em MATE I feel it in my bladder,if any manager knows this team well Sherwoods the man.UTV keep the faith folks
1-3 VILLA.
Still got to have the quality to exploit them though. Kane will piss all over our defence
If we go all out for the win, I reckon we’ll beat them 3-2. 🙂
Loving the belief Bencey.
I just hope it’s justified at the end of the season.
I like your style Giddy 🙂
Sherwood would love some payback & he’ll get it.
gil came out of the changing room area at twenty past six talking on his phone, and stood next to his car and was quite agitated in his conversation. a few people asked him if he was playing he never replied, he got into his car and continued his conversation when he finished he started his car and left. at the end of the game his car was back in its parking place maybe he went to get a Chinese or a curry, but he did play for the under 21s where he was injured.
Cheers for that clarification, Billy’s.
Still very odd that he didn’t even make the squad, but there you go.
Probably won’t play him as hes a lamberk signing. Ironically after benteke the only decent play lamberk has signed.
Think you’re pushing it on it being because Gil’s Lambert’s signing. So is Lowton, Bacuna, Cissokho, Okore, Benteke, Westwood, Sanchez, Sinclair, etc etc and he has no problems playing them, and bar Sinclair they’re all definitely more than decent signings.
I’ve got a feeling this will be a cracking game! I can see the headlines now “Sherwood’s Villa mashed Spuds”!!!
Lloris and Vertonghen are both out which are huge blows to them, as is Walker who’s not all that good defensively, but if Cissokho isn’t back I’d have been worried about him going forward. Lloris being out is definitely the biggest plus, Vorm’s been poor for them and we definitely can take advantage of that. I don’t think Kane’s going to be our biggest problem, our biggest problem will be Eriksen. Don’t think we have a midfield that’s good enough to handle him controlling us especially with Mason and Benteleb with him, we’re going to get overrun. N’Zogbia will start but this isn’t a game for him, Sherwood may know Spurs but Ponchettino is a quality manager as is tactically different to Sherwood.
We would’ve have beaten them at villa park had benteke not been sent off so I don’t think this is going to be a straight forward victory for Spurs. I can see it being 2-2 I think.
‘Harry Kanes Villa as Deadwoods Donuts are s mashed by Spuds! Richardson and Vlaar start as Okore and Lowton are benched again! 3 – 0 to spuds as Deadwood makes Gil take the tube to White Hart Lane……Deadwood explains ‘your not the icing on my cake’. Lamberk may of rated you, but I DONT! Cole is the icing on my cake…..just ignore the fact that he’s now 64 ‘if your good enough, your old enough
Lord help us!
Fuck off Dim, Grim, Tim Deadwood and Lerner, the Villa is OURS
Can’t u come up woth yr own healine pun instead of knicking mine??!! 😉
Severe lack of originality Langford.. bit like yr posts at present!!! 🙂
Have a sneaky feeling we will get something out of this one, Clubs hate old managers coming back to haunt them…But then I think of Eriksen and Kane’s quality, lets hope they get the virus and are seen puking their guts up before kick off.
Think its a sure fire defeat today ,we will really struggle now till the end of the season just hope we have enough would be devastated if we went down.Have a nice weekend bloggers.
Richardson against Townsend. This doesn’t really fill me with confidence. I’d rather baker at left back he would at least get stuck in good and proper.
Townsend isn’t that good, he gets 1 right in every 10 from crosses/shots. This one doesn’t scare me at all.
Just heard from a Spurs mate. He just said their defence is as patched up as our today, so expects a load of goals. I bet it’s a nil nil saying that!!!…
Certainly spurs weakness is their defense today I hope benteke fucking sticks it right up em.COYL
Richardson, Vlaar and cole…..fucking pathetic!!
Deadwood, out, out, out
Oh no, we have Cole on the bench, what ever will we do????!?!?!?!?!
Happy we’re playing Cleverley, Delph and Sanchez. Was worried that he wouldn’t as knew Spurs would be playing 3 in midfield as per usual.
Solid start though.
Richardson beaten too easily again.
Richardson is a disaster.
Clark off for Baker. That’s a blow.
So our defensive injuries just get worse, Clark off. Grand
Hoof ball, just like Lamberk and Mcleish……pathetic selection and tactics again!
Now Bacuna’s down.
At least he’s up. Can’t take any more injuries.
We’re playing too deep for my liking and need to push out.
Reminds me of the Utd game.
THe Beast! Again!
Great goal and confident play. UTV
What a cross. Shocked he scored with that header though. Fortunately Lloris isn’t in goal.
Why shocked?
We’ve conceded loads like that, lol.
Seemed a weaker header that could’ve been stopped if Vorm actually moved is all. Although it did hit the post so probably couldn’t have gotten there.
