Well, that was unexpected, wasn’t it? Well, it was from me anyway.
That is the first game Spurs have lost at home since November, let’s not forget that.
While it might be easy to say that Spurs didn’t play to their best and had vital players missing, the latter point seems to have applied to us for a very long time.
They had a somewhat makeshift defence and so did we. Hence you can’t give Spurs any credit for that, in my opinion.
So what made this one so good?
It was simply the overall application.
Anyone who thinks that the players don’t want to play for Sherwood is quite frankly deluded and those players on the pitch today ran their proverbials off.
There were four possibles for man of the match today.
Delph for his constant running and energy.
Sanchez, who did what I expected him to do, in being a holder/stopper.
Benteke, who got the goal, but more importantly is beginning to show another dimension to his game, with his passing and vision.
And the Villa fans who were actually there.
You never know how the fans sound at the ground, compared to how the mics are set up, but from where I watched the game, they were simply outstanding and I think they edged it.
The consensus overall, is that we have brilliant away fans, some of the best in the game.
Hence I’m happy to give it to them.
I’ll probably expand more on my thoughts about the actual game in the thread, but my immediate thought is “papering over the cracks?”.
I don’t think so and to be honest, I’m glad to see some Sherwood haters proven wrong.
There aren’t many teams who win at Spurs and I’m simply chuffed to bits.
There are still many twists and turns to be seen before this season is out.

Get in there!!!!!
Brilliant result, For a manager that has lost the dressing room and has no tactical nous that’s an amazing result.
Agree with Tekkers post on previous thread, Can’t see Benteke staying in the summer, especially if he is fit. π
Thats very defeatist B6! Benteke Will NOT leave and we will NOT be relegated.
Have you no faith in Tim? There is a real positive vibe in the camp and in the dressing room!
Have you joined oohah and his negative cronies?
Keep the faith!
We will NOT be relegated!
BTW Burnley are losing! What a great footballing day!
Just trying to fit in with the regulars, π
You’ve succeeded! oohah is trying to tempt Heskey back π
Thanks, Good too see you back π
There’s a real buzz going on. It wouldn’t suprise me if he srayed one bit. If he does go it’ll be for near Β£30m + as he’s proved once again he’s not a one season wonder when fit. Will the sale happen? Who will Sherwood target????
Well done to the whole team today!
Cheers B6. I am loving our attacking play. Thats the way football should be played. I said at the start of the season that this team has definetely got a top 10 place in them. Unfortunately Lambert strangled the life out of them. I have some pity for Lambert as the job got to big for him and Lerner’s pennypinching doesent help.
UTV
Delighted today. That is all.
ARSEnal 1 nil……is it going to be a good day all round.
We’re going to win the league lol
Great result and performance. Benteke, Deph played great as did most of the team. Hope Clark’s injury is not too bad! At least he doesnt have a suspension hanging over his head. Maybe fit for Wembley as I think hes been our player of the season.
Well done Tim…we would have been relegated by now under Lambert.
Fans were amazing as usual. New hope in B6. Onwards and upwards!
We will NOT be relegate
Aah, that’s more like it Langford.
So I assume you were playing devils’ advocate?
Dont know what you mean mate…..my Grandson as had my Ipad for the last couple of months whilst I have been away. He’s a Gashead (Bristol Rovers). To those who dont know!
Hmm. π
Well take the bloody thing off him and get back on the bandwagon!
In all seriousness, that’s a superb win mate.
Big weight off the shoulders and all that.
Lol….I only came back this morning…He’s probably got another 2 birds pregnant whilst I have been away……scumbag little Gashead π
Hello to the real Langford
Hello…what do you mean?
BTW the Albion and Newcastle are getting dragged into the mire! 4 more points will see us safe IMO!
We will NOT be relegated. Just hope Lerner gets his buyer and hands Tim a decent transfer kitty.
I actually think that we are in good and capable hands at longlast!
I love the ‘we will score more than you’ attitude….at least its decent to watch and entertaining. Entertainment and 100% effort is enough to keep me well happy!
Langford you’ve been a bit bipolar recently mate it’s good to see you back to your old self.
Disclaimer: Bipolarism is a serious mental disorder which needs to be taken seriously (before the pc police start commenting)
Lol….well I said to the shrink I’m a Villa fan….and he said, without hesitation…..your bipolar. I thought he was paying me a compliment π
A few points on today’s game… Benteke, to keep it short and sweet, the beast is back! Delph is relishing his new role as captain. Gabby and Benteke up top is finally working. I think Cleverley is really enjoying himself now, he played some lovely passes today. I’m really disappointed that Sanchez got a red today, I like him and feel he’s really adapted to his role last few games. Feel like he’s got a bit of unfair criticism. All in all, I would’ve taken 3 points this week. A win against QPR and a loss today would have been seen as a success to me.. Instead we’ve got 4 points from both games! The only way is up now..
Fantastic win.
question
who would you rather have pulls or sherwood
Sherwood….attacking football always does it for me!
Pullis because WBA are still ahead of us with a game in hand
Thats a great point about Cleverley. He certainly looks a different player under Tim. Its great to see Jack getting some gametime as well!
We are going to be a bit short on numbers for Wemberley!!
Langford you’ve totally lost me,Jekyll & Hyde springs to mind.possible whindup?????
Hi Giddy…..no wind up mate. I only flew back in this morning. I am positive about everything in life…..you should know. Hope your OK. Where is BP and BWS! I am really enjoying the football under Tim. Its very refreshing! Unfortunately, we still have to get rid of Lerner!
Nice to see you back on I thought for a bit you’d had a lobotomy MATE π
Just got back myself Langford, lastnight, I know you by now mate said so on previous post I have a good sense of humour like you. Yes brilliant day for us and remembering our game next week is a cup game, and to anyone that don’t know its on BT Sports Sunday.utv.
Ps welcome back MATE if you are the real LANGFORD.
Langford, I think you should check yr posting history whilst you’ve been gone! Is yr grandson appearing on Jeremy Kyle soon if what u say is true? Lol!!!
LOL…He wonnt be fit to be on anything when I get hold of the little Gashead scumbag….these Bristolians have a weird sense of humour…..I blame his mother. Thank fuck I’m a proud Brummie π
WTF is a labotomy…..have you been doing a medical degree whilst I have been sunning myself in Cyprus…..the only thing I missed is the beer and the football, but I did manage to get some good streams!……god bless the internet and the ‘Amazon fire TV’ π
LOL summit to do with the brain MATE, the Gashead did you no favors whilst you’ve been away as someones mentioned go over your history interesting reading me thinks.
Great Result today, I think it possible if we carry on like this we will not lose another game until the Wembley Final……….
Woudnt that be a turn up for the books, I was unsure about Sherwood in the beginning but he is growing on me and he is sending out the right messages to the players, the supporters and the club.
Looks like the Baggies are beginning to buckle as well, its becoming a twisted end to the season.
Giddy LOL….whats a brain? Its ok, he was only fucking about……he said he felt sorry for oohah because he’s got no negative friends π
LOL π it looks like OOHAs playing solitaire now.
Or playing a tune on the pink oboe!!!
lol..on his own? :)………great to hear from you as well BP. Hope your family are well mate π
Cheer’s Langford, family fine mate , hope yours are both grandkids doing well in football, off to Yorkshire in schoo!l tournament end of May they came 3rd last year.
Good luck to them mate. Any potential Villans in there?
Must be time for the pub. How much do I miss a decent pint when I’m away? Lets hope Chelski hammer the hoops tomorrow. Got a feeling that the hoops might get a point…..fucking hope not!
I’ve been thinking about some of, well most of, the players that Lambert signed and whilst he did sign some shit overall he did actually, imo, sign some quality too.
This hasn’t come to light just cause we won today but over the period of a few months. Imo Sanchez, Benteke, Okore, Guzan, Sinclair, Gill, Lowton and Bennett are all really good top quality players (ok I was taking the piss with Bennett).
Am I being daft in suggesting that Lambert would probably make a very very good scout? Whilst I thought what he did at Norwich was excellent, maybe management isn’t for him. Would anybody else like to see him in someone of scouting position at VP or am I really being senile? π
Somekind*
Well, there’s the thing B6.
We don’t actually know who scouted anyone, do we?
Benteke is obviously the outstanding candidate, but Sanchez and Okore strike me as really good signings. Gil too, although he can’t get a look in.
If Lambert did find them, yes, he’d make a very good scout.
I think he has his sights set higher than that though and in fairness, I think he’ll make a great manager at a club with lower expectations, similar to Norwich.
It’s not about him now though and I just want to revel in a superb win today.
Great result today that should see us safe and one that changes the whole dynamic for next weekend. Sherwood, right man at the right time, and for those that come on here and pop at the manager without attending any games, please, do one. UTV
The way various results are going, I still don’t count us as safe; need a few more like this before I relax…
But you’re right about the rest!
True a lot depends on how teams below us do with games in hand. Though it is better to have points in the bag imo. Just hope we don’t get too bogged down with cup we still need another 5-7 points imo so can’t relax yet.
I do attend games was at utd last week and we were like rabbits caught in the headlines. Pathetic performance
Celebratory video added.
“Fight like Lions”.
I love it!
was that a few tears from deadly? like him or loathe him he’s pure claret and blue
Yes they did fight like lions………a strange feeling in last 5 mins + the 7-8 extra – the way they were biting into every challenge.Shame Sanchez bit too hard though.Got to have Gabby for semi…Gabby and Beast eat Liverpool usually……as long as we play it as an away game.
Even weimann does ok v liverpool for some reason
Because Weimann’s not as dreadful as people claim.
I think the pressure is off to a certain extent and who knows what they might pull off now (injuries allowing).
Just beginning to allow myself to start thinking about staying up and the Cup.
Anyway don’t bet that the Villa can’t beat anyone (Oohaah take note), look what happened to this fan….
http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-fan-pretty-pink-9026980#rlabs=1
Can u seriously see us beating liverpool and arsenal. Not a chance especially the way arsenal are playing at the moment. But staying up is all that matters stuff fa cup I still can’t get excited by it tbh and really don’t care if we win it or not as long as we stay up.
Liverpool? Yes I can actually see us beating them. They’re no better than Spurs, often have off games, etc. Arsenal? On a one off day? Definitely, overall Arsenal are by far the better team though to both Pool and Villa so they’re definitely favorites to win it. But we can definitely beat Pool. Now with the injuries we have, being without Clark and Gabby, Sanchez being suspended, it’ll be far more difficult, but still not impossible.
I listened to the Blackburn game, Liverpoolyby no means had an easy time of it. It could have gone either way. Can we have a collection for some anti-depressants for OhAhh?
We will see in the extremely unlikely event we did beat them then arsenal awaits and they are the second best team in the prem on current form. We won’t beat them.
Yes we can beat liverpool but we won’t. Sterling Sturridge and cortinho will kill us
Sterling hasn’t been good since the contract problems came around, Sturridge hasn’t been great since his return from injury. Coutinho’s the only one that even comes close to scaring me from that trio and like Eriksen yesterday, can very much have an off game.
Still better than what we’ve got though. Remember our defence is shite yesterday was an exception to the rule but still rode our luck.
You mean like Kane, as you predicted, did yesterday?
Kane played well yesterday and could easily have got one like I said we rode our luck at times
And gabby could easily have got one too.
And indeed, came miles closer, meaning it should have been 2-0!
Jeez, why are you so consistently one-sided against the Villa?
I see you were apparently at Man U last week.
No surprise there, as I’m convinced that’s your real love, the way you go on about them, sometimes.
Kane’s only good chance was a 30 yard shot that went right at Guzan. Fazio was their only actual chance at scoring and it went just over after Benteke again lost his man on a corner defensively. We could’ve easily been 3-0 up and it wouldn’t have been shocking.
Blimey Stan just won the Cup!
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/aston-villa-hero-stiliyan-petrov-5496519
Alright so it was the Central Warwickshire Over 35s Premier Division One Cup but so what…
…is this an omen I ask myself? π
Isn’t that cheating? He was recently a top drawer player! Lol!!!! Well done Stan! Another piece of great news…
PAT57…..thanks for that link mate. Its a very heartwarming story. Stan is a proper top bloke. I am delighted that he’s back at VP and he is recovering well from his illness. Fair play to the club and the fans too who have given him the best possible support throughout. We certainly missed him when he stopped playing.
Morning fellow VILLANS hopefully QPR get a good stuffing today to round off a very rewarding weekend for results the sun is shining & the VILLA are in sight of the finish line.I’m not ruling out picking up points at shitty oh to be a VILLA fan. π UTV VTID SOTC
Morning Giddy ,just want to have a pop at Oohah, Oohah tell me one thing did you think that Villa would have beaten Tottenham on their own patch? , to be honest I didn’t, that got to mean Villa not to be ruled out unable to beat Liverpool. Its a F A cup game that in its self is an incentive to any footballer on the rise in his game, Giddy I’m unsure on Sanchez he looks heavy on movement and slow in decisions, it could be me but seen it in him from day one, its coming on again in a few minutes seen it twice up till now.bloody brill mate.
I did secretly think we might have pinched a point tbh bill. But Sherwood knowing their players must of played a huge part. The problem is Sherwood will never have that advantage when we play other teams. Can u seriously see us beating Liverpool then arsenal! Not a chance. I’m not saying we won’t give them a decent game as I think we will but bottom line is cream rises to the top
Morning BILL yes I’m not sure about Sanchez he doesn’t seem consistent imo mate,as for Liverpool it’s the cup so anything’s possible.I do believe under Sherwood we’re going places, hope he gets a decent kitty in summer (LOL) I can see a few players being shown the door.onwards & upwards. UTV
I think he should now bring back Gardner, Bent, do we have others? Cannot remember anyway time to take a look at them and as you say move others on.
Sherwood seems to be a fan of bents,if we can structure the service around him he’ll score goals he’s told players to get the ball to benteke which we’ve started to do goals will come.I still feel our midfield needs strengthening not enough goals are coming from that position.still chuffed with the performance yesterday bring on the bin dippers Wembley Wembley.
