Sheff U – Villa; we should really win this, except, erm no we shouldn’t

It seems to me that many of us look at this as a very winnable game.
If you look at it from the view that Sheffield Utd got promoted with us and we’ve spent a boat load of money, while they spent pennies, that means we should simply be better than them and will win this.

God no, the total opposite applies, to my mind and Chris Wilder has almost the same respect that I have for Dean Smith, in that he actually supports the club that he’s managing.
It’s a rare thing, these days, where all these foreign managers, while wanting to win, just don’t have that affliliation.
Yes, you could say Sir Ron was never a Villa fan and you’d be right.
But I just think supporting the club adds to things and has to be a plus.

The truth is, a manager supporting a club makes very little difference to anything, but it sounds nice.

I’m going to cut this one short, as I’ve fallen asleep and just re-awkoken.

Mings is out, but as I suggested in the previous post, I’m not that bothered.
But why do I suspect that Hause won’t come in to replace him?

I think we’ll be doing well if we get anything out of this, but I’m willing to go with a 2-2 prediction, simply because I think we are capable of it.

We all know the script though and the reality is it wouldn’t surprise me if we lose.

    Sorry, chaps.
    I’m knackered.

  2. last season i was impressed most with sheff utd. i remember they were long way back in third it was norwich and leeds top two. but i kept saying sheff utd would catch leeds. they did and they deserved too.

why are they impressive, well they have a system all the players are comfy with. even a former reject of villa is going well there edna stevens is flying down the wing putting in decent crosses. the system they employ is hard working one. they create overlaps everywhere. this makes them strong everywhere.they like to go down the sides where they create overlaps three on twos.

lots of villa fans are over reacting to the last game in particular. the run of games we just played were tough. we did ok and losing last out was no shame. foxes are the closes thing to pool in this league. we are a promoted side with our own agenda and that is simple to survive. lets keep focused on that and not get ahead of ourselves

today we will miss mings he is more than a player, he organises and he is moral supports for the team. if there is one department which is worrying for me it is defence. we are so weak at crosses /corners and free kicks. we can not hope to keep clean sheets. why are we so bad i am clueless. maybe its the quality of crosses or our defenders at fault. everybody is focused on wesley they are missing the open door at the back. heaton has kept us in the games lately and if he had not done world class saves, we would have lost bigger last time .

sheff utd will beat us today if we defend like we have. they will cross the ball and i cant see us defending them correctly. but if we can stop the crosses or by god help defend the crosses.. we can score against anybody. so we have a chance to win . 3 1 sheff utd

Remembering how they tore us apart before and can see same today…think another hammering could set us well back.

  3. I have the same forecast as nath and agree defensively we are all over the place at the moment. Mings hasn’t been great recently but he is a leader. I like Engels but worry that Konsa isn’t ‘oven ready’ as Boris would say! I would like to see Hause alongside Engels because he is naturally left footed and physically capable of dealing with most forwards. Also BFR mentions 3 at the back which could be an alternative as long as Guilbert and Targett play and definitely not Elmo or Taylor!
Assuming Wesley is playing we need him to start producing a threat up top because we are relying too much on our midfield players to score and opponents are getting wise to this.

  4. Hause and Lansbury selected instead of Mings and Luiz plus Guilbert plays. They need to take their chance now after a long wait to start.

10 minutes in and we are defending, Sheffield are going at us, this is going to be hard game , not shots on goal as yet.

Mcginn has is urgency back thank God, Wesley winning ball in the air, anyone’s game at the minute. Jack not had much of the ball as yet.

34 minutes and no strike on both teams, Grealish hasn’t had any chance to use the ball , its a locked midfield game.

The ref is making a fool of himself a push in the back on Grealish was given the other way, a very poor ref. Apparently first few games in the league. 0-0 half time.

Not a single shot first half – mmm – change of tactics away?

  10. Wow! That was an exciting first half. Sheffield United dominating without having any clear cut chances. Their keeper could have spent the first half back in the dressing room for what he had to do. Hause is playing well and definitely our best player so far. El Ghazi, Grealish and Wesley doing little so far.

  11. zero zero lol that is a score which i would accept. clean sheet and more solid at the back. we have shown nothing in attack. hause has been very good. one thing i like he defends simple. mings is sometimes to nice to play centre back. what i mean is mings will not clear the ball in row z where hause clears the ball safety first and no apologies.

we struggled forwards because we just haven’t countered intelligently, el ghazi needs to keep it simple. his flicks and around the corners passing is poor. sheff utd can be got at on the counter. but we are trying to over play and it is too clinical. newcastle countered them with little passes as possible. sheff utd do not play three at the back or five they split the three cb two play as full backs the wing backs are wingers.

we need to break fast and cut out the over play. wesley needs to stay on the last sheff utd cb. el ghazi and grealish on the other cb. once we get the ball get it forwards quick. we can score like this. over play and they will get back like they did all first half

  12. We need to be at it early on second half. We usually start sloppily so let’s hope we don’t this time round.

  13. Sloppy start and game over!

Goal Sheffield one shot and they score.

  15. What the f*** do they do in training. Wesley and El Ghazi offering nothing! Nakamba is poor again.

  16. Wesley has had a shot! Jot it down for the history books!

  17. Unbelievable, Smith finally realises Wesley is a dud!

  18. Now bring on Trezeguet for Nakamba and try playing attacking football.

    Pen Grealish miss . Shit..

  20. Dare I say it but we are a nice team to play against. No real leaders and spineless. Smith needs to get tough on them or he will be heading for the exit!

Villa are demoralized, this is relegation football Sheffield could have had 4 I’ve lost Faith in this team , we don’t have ball players who hold onto the ball Marvellous is hit and miss with passing and no direction in passing.

    1. We are too nice Bill. Our players get roughed up too easily and too often. If you can’t win the battle then any quality we possess won’t show.

  22. Load of shit again. We just pass in to dead ends and have zero end product. Barely look a goal threat all game. We dont even have anyone to change it up. Were in a right mess.

I wish we had that number 10 Antonio he’s all over the pitch. Good game that and nice to be on the edge of your seat. I think it’s time to rest McGinn hes lost the pace a bit along with Wesley, yes all had a bad game…

  23. If you stop Jack then you stop Villa.

    We’re in serious trouble lads.

  25. sheff utd just had too much about them. hard work, confidence and imposed their game on a poor lacklustre villa team, lacking confidence and belief. we just never carried any sort of threat. when you have nothing to hurt teams they will just grind you down. that is just what happened.

first half we coped well, but utd had many more gears to use, second half they used them and we continued to struggle. we needed to counter them far quicker than we tried. but that is evident of our struggles now. we are too slow and precise. sheff utd are full off beans and they do things instinctive and not dilly dally

smith has a tough job now to pick up villa players, you could see the belief draining from our players. at the end they where well beaten.
