The latest striker to be linked with a move is Blackburn’s Rudy Gestede. It’s being reported that Blackburn have accepted a £6 million bid for the tall Mali forward. But what doesn’t make sense is that different tabloids have also claimed that Adebayor and Berbatov are also in talks to sign with Aston Villa. On top of that, French midfielder Veretout is also poised to sign with Villa. Out of all these links Veretout makes the most sense since we are need of a replacement for Delph. But three forwards? Something doesn’t add up.
It’s been clear from day 1 that Tim Sherwood does want to bring in Adebayor to Aston Villa. Adebayor has been seen at Bodymoor Heath earlier in the week with Villa and Tottenham agreeing a loan deal for the forward. If that is the case then I don’t understand the need of bringing in Gestede and Berbatov as well. Libor Kozak showed us on Tuesday that he is more than capable of leading the attacking line after scoring a brace. While Robinson also displayed his talent by providing an assist and scoring a goal prior to the Wolves game.
Out of those linked, Gestede makes the most sense. A fee of £6-7 million has been agreed with Blackburn, and at the age of 26, Gestede looks as the player that could play a role for Aston Villa in the long-term. Gestede has scored 32 goals in 60 appearances for Blackburn since joining from Cardiff. On the other hand Adebayor does have Premier League experience and can play under Sherwood’s tactics. Perhaps things will be made more clear throughout the weekend, but as things stand I strongly believe that Aston Villa don’t need 7 forwards at the club. Surely two of these rumours are false, can Aston Villa afford the wages for the trio?
Gestede is our plan b if Adebayor doesn’t turn up looks a strong tidy player who will get better things are looking up keep clearing the deadwood out Tim
Rather have him then Adebeyor at least he will put in a shift most games. Not sure if he’s good enough for prem though only time will tell
Think the Berbatov rumour is just conjecture. Looks like Our main strikers will be Kozak, Ayew, Adebayor and Gestede and four seems about right for the squad. Robinson may go out on loan but if he stays will be eased in gently (I think?). Don’t get the Berbatov rumour at all so not sure it has any legs.
Berbatov rumour is exactly that, just a rumour.
Reports that Leicester are stealing Vertout because we wont match the price they have offered!
Veretout has said he wants to join villa and his club president has said he is a pillick for agreeing to villas price when he has been offered more and he never thought he would do that with a player but goes on to say how good veretout has been to the club, never complained and has been a superb player for the club always giving 100% and he doesn’t want to get in the way of what veretout wants, and he wants villa.
True but we need to shit or get off the pot!!
The president went on to say basically if things aren’t agreed on sharpish, someone might take him from under our noses plus he wanted everything finalized by Wednesday.
He would just be saying that to hurry us up, Veretout will be a villa player.
Where does this leave Gabby I wonder, Sherwood was quoted as saying that he could be in for his ‘best season yet’, a couple of weeks ago, he’ll be struggling to make the bench at this rate!
Rumour is that Vereout is at Bodymoor heath..
Most reports are just re hashes of old ones..
if another club were seriously in for him there would be more reports carrying more substance..
I think he will be a Villa player by end of the week..
the icing on the cake would be a good CB.. doesn’t have to be straight away but by the end of the window will be nice 🙂
He will sign for villa by the end of the week for sure
Newsnow put reports that well out of date and repeat the same thing over again. Keeping an open mind on Vertout but the majority of reports seem to suggest he’s coming to Villa. We will see.
NN just recycle the same il crap so I go direct to sites they have on there now cut out the middleman 🙂
“NN just recycle the same crap”……….Bit like yourself then oohah. 🙂
What was it you were saying about adding nothing to the debate? And while I’m whiling away the hours here in the library here’s a few words for you to mull over –
hypocritical – self-righteous – pretentious and last but not least- unctuous.
Well I’m off back to the caravan now.
You forgot the word “employed” 🙂
But pray why would I when I can have the life of Riley at your expense my friend?
keep that nose of yours firmly pressed to that grindstone and keep that PAYE rolling in because mate I’ve got beer, fags, season tickets, drugs (this list is not exhaustive) to buy.
Cheers fella, you’re a top man. This fine country was built on the the back of suckers, oh sorry I mean grafters like you, you’re the salt of the earth brother 😉
Good lad, you deserve all you the beer, fags, season tickets and drugs you can lay your hands on. Small consolation for what you went through as a child. 🙂
Cheers son you’ve got it all, understanding, philanthropy and an amateur psychologist to boot. Obviously a person of many a hidden talent 🙂
Don’t mention it. Your realisation of my many hidden talents makes it all worth while. Have a wonderful evening and keep your bong burning. 🙂
Oh just one more thing, I know you’re a stickler for vocabulary and punctuation, as some of your replies to another poster would prove regarding the use of “your and you’re”. It’s basic English to start a new sentence with a capital letter.
Enjoy your evening. 🙂
yOu ToO SwEeT hEaRT 😉
You can’t blame NewsNow! They don’t write a single word, just provide links to websites, most of which are pants. AVN&V should get off your arses and get re listed, then there would be some quality links up there for a change! 🙂
Hear hear
Agree. No need for NN just save their links independently it’s more up to date
personally think with all these links is yes we are interested, but if they play hardball we can just move on to the next on the list. or platini who is a good friend of Wilkins has whispered if he wins the election in feb we are going 15 a side lol.
But how much will it cost – wink, wink!
Porto, Lille and Fiorentina are in a three-way fight to sign Aston Villa defender Aly Cissokho.
The French full-back looks surplus to requirements at Villa Park following the arrival of Jordan Amavi from Nice.
Porto have identified Cissokho as a top target, and are prepared to bid £3m for the former Valencia man.
Lille and Fiorentina are also keen, but are only prepared to take the 27-year-old loan with a view to a permanent deal.
Cissokho joined Villa on a four-year deal last summer after a loan stint at Liverpool and is keen to get more game time next season.

£2-3m for him and same for Baker would mean +£50m in incoming fees. Plus with amount of sales and those let go (including Cleverley who would have been on a decent amount last year) our wage bill wont be too bad assuming those ins are on good contracts. Should still be money to play with for a couple of decent sized signings
This is looking like a rehab project. Like “This Old House” only it’s “This Old Club” featuring Tim and Tom, taking out the deadwood and putting in French-style kitchen and bath.

LOL NICE one 😀
Aston not in Birmingham? Tottenham, Fulham and Chelsea aren’t in London either! Lol!!!!
Absolute class! 🙂
I have one question – why is it that Villa seem to take an age to secure a player’s signature? Other clubs seem to move much quicker than we do!
Baggies don’t Lambert for eg.
Liverpool took ages to sign benteke and look at de gea RM have been linked with him for ages and he’s still at Utd
Should have been more specific – we have ‘been in talks’ over Adebayor and Vertout for what seems like weeks – different to being linked to a player. Once we accepted Liverpool’s bid the transfer went through reasonably quickly; Chester and Brady from Hull to Baggies and Norwich. Is that we just have to negotiate every last farthing out of the deal? We have a history of this going back to Deadly Doug’s days – Robbie Keane?
Villa are in talks with Gestede and he is expected to have a medical tomorrow.
Has the wool been pulled over our eyes in regard to Adebayor? Or do we expect to sign both him and Gestede. Others have mentioned if it had been a smokescreen, but there have been reports mentioning Adebayor at Bodymoor Heath.
Front line of Ayew and Gustede seems quite appetising to me.
Still think we could do with another defender, especially if Baker goes to Burnley and with Okore out injured.
Villa are actually very shrewd negotiators. They don’t do their transfer dealings in Red Rags’ newsrooms and they pitch their contract conditions and stops (trigger prices) very well. I started being miffed at only 8 Million for Delph. But I had been slagging him for years and would not pay even that for him, so I came to realise other people did not rate him more highly either, including the Villa management.
I think it is clear they are not gong to meet 100K p/w for Adebayor so they have offered him a performance related deal. If he does not like it we know he thinks he cannot perform, and will walk away. For Vertout we have bid a generous price, if desperate teams want to pay more we should throw our hand in and look elsewhere.
Don’t criticise Deadly Doug please, If he had followed the advice given him by the old supporters he would have ended up like Ken Bates – a serial club-wrecker who almost bankrupted Chelsea and then did bankrupt Leeds.
A breath of fresh air and good dose of common sense here OLL – and a man brave enough to defend Deadly in these pages!
It never ceases to amaze me that some fans really do expect the club to conduct any and all potential transfer discussions out in the media – ‘to keep them informed’; this is a business, and proper business don’t do things that way.
Ellis was awful he lost out on Robbie Keane for the sake of a few hundred thousand and could if sold him for 4 times that amount in less than a year. Then there was the Beattie situation done deal then Ellis had dinner with him and offered him less wages than agreed with DOL. beat toehold him to do one. Awful chairman penny wise pound foolish springs to mind. Selling Delph for £8m and getting him off wage bill is now looking like a great bit of business for us. I never rated him either and think Gueye will probably be a better player
I would guess the £8m was a clause in the contract Delph signed last season, that’s the only thing I could put the low transfer fee when simply being English usually inflates the price to ridiculous levels.
No fan Ken Bates but wasn’t Peter Ridsdale the man behind the ruination of Leeds? Come on credit where credit’s due.
villas medic will have seen more new faces this week than any game show
sherwood must have said to fox all out all new in or face more results like last 3
Not sure whether your comments were aimed at my post OLL. If so I was not advocating Villa doing there transfer dealings in public but we do seem to complicate deals – there has been a lot of comments on thisoint over RL’s term in charge – mostly negative. I don’t support paying over the odds just to get a player a la MON.
As regards Deadly, I don’t have a totally negative view but my biggest criticism is that he knew the cost of everything and the value of nothing. He had the opportunity to build on the legacy of the European Cup win and he blew it.
The Bendalls screwed the EC winning team over by letting Saunders go before final. The greatest manager we ever had and all he wanted was a rolling contract they said no. Ellis hated the fact that our most successful period ever was in his absence and did everything he could to dismantle the team and pretend it never happened. It all came to light when RL took over and couldn’t find any evidence or photos that we won the EC. Fair play to RL he got that sorted and got us the star on our badge one of the few teams in England to wear it. No thanks to Ellis
OohAh for once you and I are 100% in the same camp.
Ron Bendall changed Saunders contract behind his back, and screwed up the chance of him building Villa’s biggest legacy. When I think back it makes me sick, we could have been bigger than Liverpool in the 80s
Agreed plus we sold EC players too quickly down to Ellis who didn’t want to leave a trace of our great team
Makes a refreshing change 🙂
Veretout to have medical at Villa tomorrow according to SSN!!!! Please let this happen!!!
Looks like Vertout is on his way grrreat news.
I hope we sign Veretout and Gestede tomorrow and forget about the rest!

Try this – right link.
Please God tell me that we haven’t made a bid for Joleon Lescott yet are prepared to let Baker go! No No No!
Daily mail reporting we are offering £1m to take Joleon Lescott from WBA.
Bid rejected thank FUCK rather keep baker.
We do need a CH but we need a good one
Shawcross??? 😀
Would like to see us get Shawcross; but I don’t think he’d leave Stoke for Villa, even if the clubs could agree on a fee…
Agree with you there oohah
On the one hand it’s good that Sherwood is looking for a centre half now that he has filled the vacancies in the midfield and attacking positions. However, I think that Lescott is past his best and would be a risk, even at £1 million. Having said that,I can’t think of any other centre halves that are currently available. I am quite impressed with the signings made to date and am cautiously optimistic about the new season. I would like to think that we won’t be discussing the ‘R’ word at any stage where Villa are concerned this season. I would also like to see us get to the FA Cup final again and actually turn up.
Lescott is ok but another error prone CH past his best.
good points on lescott – scores goal and is a villa fan and has plenty of premier league experience , his transfer price at a few mill could be a bargain.
bad points – injury prone and age .
really not sure about this one if he was the only defender on the cards i would get him but i think its just retaliation for wba bidding for clark.
Decent player, but yes, he’ll be 33 in a couple of weeks time – is that really ‘too old’ for a CH?
I agree with Domingo, I think it maybe a bit of retaliation for trying to unsettle Clark.
Gestede has just signed.
Lescott would be a dreadful signing, don’t be fooled by England caps or the fact he played for Man City, he’s multi error prone and totally overrated, wouldn’t even take him on a free!!
