Post Man United thoughts and a look ahead to LOSC Lille…

As predicted, the worst possible game we could’ve had following a dismal few weeks at Aston Villa Football Club. The way I saw it is that we were just completely spineless and had pretty much given up before we kicked off.

The fans were in full voice in the first half again and it was quite a jolly away end to be in given the last few weeks, but again, this did not seem to rub off on the players. Something just does not seem to be working at the moment.

Interestingly, sporting director Damian – and I am not going to attempt to spell his surname – has put a post up asking for support, and actually says “Maybe we don’t deserve to ask nothing”, which just tells me that all of these players and staff members definitely read the negative comments posted by fans on social media.

The truth is, they do need our support tonight, because to crash out of the Europa League after bringing a 1-0 win home would be utterly tragic, and would destroy our season, especially if we keep at the rate we are going in the Premiership.

One positive from Sunday was Ross Barkley getting himself on the scoresheet! That was quite unexpected, but I was happy to see it.  I think he is a very organised team player, but realistically most Villa fans predicted the end result correctly and as soon as they made it 2-1 I just knew there was no way we were going to get back into the game again, once seemed too much to ask.

Watkins, I’m sorry… just utterly useless at the minute, nobody is going to tell me otherwise. I severely hope not anyway.

In terms of tonight’s game, Buendia, Tielemans and Cash are set to miss out, along with the obvious Kamara. McGinn is seemingly back at full fitness now, and will hopefully start in the midfield again, which is much needed. We will need to block the influence of Oliver Giroud, as we seem to struggle against prolific strikers, but we have a chance to make this a sound victory, it just all depends on how up for it we are, where at the moment, I am not too confident that we will be on it.

That being said, I do think we will win tonight, 2-0 – and I hope this can be the start of our turnaround, because West Ham on Sunday is an absolutely vital game against a side who are never an easy game for us at Villa Park.

    1. Alfie. You are far from old enough to have become that cynical yet!!!! Us lot have an excuse!

  1. Just seen Leroy’s goal. In the PL both Ollie and Bailey called offside.
And the forward pass by Buendia is all the hard work, in my view.

  2. Tielemans.
I’ve no doubt Youri is committed to the Villa cause.
Indeed, I read an article yesterday where he’s going to knock back Saudi or wherever to stick with us.
Alfie, you wally, playing for your country doesn’t mean what it used to nowadays.
    There’s no money in it.

As for Youri being allowed to go, it’s a good idea in my mind.
    You explained why perfectly Hitch.

    And Brighton retake the lead.
Sick of the commentator nearly wetting his knickers when Pool have a chance.

  3. Manure – draw
    Liverpool – lose

Common Villa it is imperative we beat West Ham tomorrow. Every point counts.

  4. Liverpool lose and yet another massive opportunity awaits we beat spam and there’s daylight surley we can’t blow another chance

  5. It’s up to us to do ourselves a favour and win tomorrow rather than relying on everyone else.

I’m sure Emery and SJM will be forcefully making the same point.

  6. We must win tomorrow chelsea have fell to pieces and liverpool are really struggling we cannot blow champions league this has to be the worst quality Premier league of all time not just us but all teams have so many shit players in their teams

    1. It’s called football!!! Completely unpredictable. Just be glad it’s not the Spanish, French or Italian leagues…
      And Rossenior is a dick.
      Looking forward to 2.15 tomorrow!!!!

    2. I thought exactly the same thing last night little 8.. Must be out injuries. There’s no way they would have beat us if we had a fully strength team youri, kamara & mcginn.. We would have torn them apart like we did with these players at Stamford Bridge in the 2nd half earlier in the season.. 😆

  7. I recall a lot of instances where players have prioritised their national team, and got injured in doing it. (response to badger)

    1. I don’t think he’s prioritised it.
It’s more like getting up to match fitness.
If Emery thought it was a bad idea, he’d have refused permission.

  8. Never mind statements, Alfie. Just win. Don’t bottle it, FFS. The size of the opportunity presented yesterday cannot be underestimated. Don’t blow it! Play with freedom, intensity and togetherness. Don’t effin blow it!

    *Summerville out is another bonus

        1. Amen BFR – it can be horrible and scruffy as long as we win.

Chelsea, on paper at least, have a far more difficult run in than us so, given their superior GD, increasing the gap to 6 points today could be decisive.

  9. Great to see Tielemans name on the sheet again. Not sure what Luiz has done wrong and I think I preferred Ollie coming on as a sub.

  10. Have to win today pool and chelsea next 3 league games difficult we can push on for champions league component UTMV

  11. We have another opportunity to take advantage of other teams messing up. If we don’t take it, and end up failing away from a CL place, we as fans will have every right to be angry. The worst PL in a long time but will we BOTTLE it yet again?

  12. Makes sense considering most people in here don’t pay to go and watch the dross were producing at the minute.

    1. In reply to those saying they don’t care if it’s convincing / scrappy etc.

  13. Good but worried we haven’t converted at least one other chance.
West Spam can’t be as bad second half.

Rogers still well below his best.
