Mr Glass strikes again. The man seriously cannot go several months without getting injured, and it is a pristine example of what injuries can do to a professional because I seriously believe his value could be pushing £100m if it were not for his frequent injuries.
Thankfully, Kamara should be back in due course, but what is to say he will not get injured straight off the bat and all? I am seriously getting sick of us signing either flops or injury prone stars who drain our finances, although I am very aware that we do get a leniency due to him being injured during international duty, which is very fortunate.
Now, let’s get straight to the point. I have been Onana’s biggest fan since we signed him and have defended him every time he has got injured, but it gets to a point where it becomes too much. He has to go for me unfortunately. You can feel sorry for him when it happens the first time, the second time and potentially even the third time. But surely we’re looking at about the fifth time, now?
To my knowledge, due to him picking up his injury during the international break, FIFA compensate his wages meaning we can bring in a replacement without it having an adverse impact on our Squad Cost Ratio (SCR), which I am hoping is accurate information or else we are in huge trouble. I really think this season is about maintaining stability, especially with reduced revenue due to the work on the North Stand. As per request, I will run a poll at the bottom of this article regarding Onana’s future at Aston Villa.
Moving onto more positive news, I thought I would cover probably the best England performance we have seen for years, and certainly one of the most nervewracking ones of all time with ten men! I personally stayed up to watch the game and was even in the pub, and know many who did, and it was definitely worth it despite the 1-hour kick off delay! However, there was one thing I took from the game, and it was the fact that friendlies against the likes of Slovenia and Kosovo do not prepare us for games like that; games where we are backs against the wall defending. We seriously need to start arranging some more difficult games, with all due respect.
Should England beat Norway on Saturday night, we face either Egypt, Argentina (Egypt are currently winning as I write this), Columbia or Switzerland. I am sorry, but (even including Norway) if Egpyt beat Argentina then we should have a free pass to the final. I would even expect us to beat the Argentines with the way they are playing at the moment, I knew Messi was going to miss that penalty and even called it to everyone before he took it. Hopefully we can at least make the final and then I do think it’ll be a 50/50 shot whether we bring it home or not.

You just knew Onana was going to come back crocked – he’s gotten that predictable. Mings/Kamara/Buendia have both had similar injuries and come back strong – so maybe this is the big injury he really needs to take the time to heal and revisit where he’s at upon his return. But there’s always a risk with ACL that they just don’t come back the same player (also many to name).
England v Mexico – probably the most stressful England performance I’ve sat through in over 40 years of watching. It had everything and I loved seeing all the fun the fans had together before and after the game. On a personal note, Texas has a lot of Mexican people (including on my wife’s side) so would never have heard the end of it had we lost!
It’s been an odd tournament so far – most of the good stuff has come off the pitch but it really has to be said our progression really seems to be down to which team turns up on the day. If we play against France like we did in the last world cup for the first 80 mins, then I think it’s a case of who can put the most past each other – but our end product has looked ropey at best in several games and some of our flair players just haven’t turned up. Right now we’re being carried by Jude/Harry – but it’s now time for the rest of the forward line to step up. I do think it was a mistake to leave Palmer/Foden at home.
I don’t know mate. I know someone personally who nearly became a professional football and had his career completely killed by 2 ACL injuries. You’re not the same.
I’ve already posted that the maximum compensation from FIFA – for a player injury at the WC – is £6.4m but, however long he’s out, the compo should cover his wages. For details see my post on the last thread.
Onana has long thin legs and his aggressive tackling puts him (them) at risk – but then that’s an essential part of his game.
Despite the Mr. Glass tag – rather unfair in my view – he made 38 appearances for Villa last season so not as bad as some would have!
As I previously posted – with tongue in cheek – Emery is already negotiating another loan for Luiz as cover! Remember you read it here first!
His value would be so much more if not for his injuries, I just don’t see how it’s always the same players getting injured so much.
We clearly need better than luiz to cover onana but I am praying we get a season out of kamara and that should keep our midfield strong enough.
I would be happy to see a midfielder coming in but it doesn’t need to be a costly one, spend money on wingers that can fly.
I agree that we need better than Luiz. I’m thankful that Onana has got injured in the World Cup because if an ACL injury was inevitable it would’ve badly hurt us if he got injured whilst playing for us.

The media vultures know that, under the three year UEFA handcuffs agreement Villa have to sell to buy otherwise any incoming player will not be allowed to register to play in the CL. On top of that UEFA have to approve the deal; in other words they have a right of veto.
Hardly equitable, hardly fair but Villa have, in part, themselves to blame.
So, knowing Villa have to sell, the click bait artistes have picked out the four most saleable players – Martinez, Rogers, Konsa and Watkins and created a narrative around each. I’ll guarantee that, following his performances at the WC, they will soon add Tielemans to that list.
The only reason Kamara isn’t on it is because of his ACL last season!
Villa have to be cleverer than they were in last summer’s transfer window but I can’t see them committing the equivalent of football suicide!
Having said that, they do need to get Konsa and Tielemans onto longer contracts (both with just two years left).

Shocking to read the salary Louis Barry was on, believed to be between £35-40k per week. Totally ridiculous for a player who came no where near the first team squad, could not establish himself in the Championship, but proven useful in League 1.
Whoever signed off on this should hang their head in shame. If Villa’s turnover is £375m, in SCR terms he represented 0.5%. This doesn’t seem much, but every little counts. When you consider Villa last season paid £200k per week for Jayden Sancho and between £40-65k per week for Harvey Elliott (can’t believe nearly the same as Barry). These additional 2 salaries cost Villa £13.7m and with Barry (how much realisticly did Stockport pay?) it could be as high as £15.7m. in SCR terms this equates to 5.88% and currently we are being fined for SCR. We are our own worst enemies!

Joe Gauci £10k per week

One must assume they are close to agreeing a sale of one of our senior players – but which one?
The most logical would be Rogers and at £130m (mooted / comparable with Anderson) then I wouldn’t have an issue with it if it funds, at least, the initial revamping, wage and average age reduction of the squad.

I’ve ran this through copilot in relation to SCR. If Villa source a front of shirt sponsorship worth £30m or more, this would provide the SCR headroom for amortisation.
Not forgetting Marlen sale raised approximately £21m, Barrenechea £10m and removed Sancho and Elliott’s combined wages of approximately £240k per week. Also shirt sleeve sponsor regarding Rwanda has been secured but not confirmed for £10m per season. These financial points might mean Villa can buy Manzambi without having to sell Roger’s or Konsa.

Good research and I agree that we shouldn’t have a big problem in getting down to the UEFA SCR of 70% which we have to achieve by the end of next season (think that’s right under the three year agreement we signed with them last year to enable us to continue to play in the European competitions)
The real problem is, under the same agreement, our transfer ‘balance sheet’ has to be positive in each ‘transfer period’ (not sure of the definition here but basically we have to make a profit on transfers) otherwise we cannot register any new players for the CL.
Remember also that we’ve acquired Alysson and Madjo for around £20m which has to be accounted for so, unless we can raise significant funds from the sale of fringe players we will have to sell a senior player – that’s my concern.
Add to that, that UEFA have to ‘approve’ each transfer – this is to prevent any of the ‘swap’ deals we saw last year to create ‘artificial profits’.
We’re actually more financially restricted under the UEFA deal than we are under the EPL’s SCR rules coming in, in the new season.

Breaking news- Ornstien has broken Tilesman to Man Utd. This would be fundamental in SCR, as he came on a free and is one of the big salary payments. I don’t know the fee, but pure profit as he joined on a free.
Great player. Although aged 29 and 2 years left in his contract. I am assuming this is the optimum time to obtain value from him and help secure our finances.
Tielemans has been one of our best players and losing him for the mooted £37m release clause in his contract will affect us badly next season. Our midfield has been ripped apart with Onana out for the season, and who knows if Kamara will come back the same player. McGinn isn’t getting any younger plus talk of Barkley and Bogarde leaving! Manzambi coming in was some long overdue positive news but it wouldn’t be Villa if it wasn’t followed by more bad news.
All this SCR bullshit is ruining the game and it’s a definite attempt to cement the status of the established elite clubs. Villa and Newcastle have had the ‘dare to dream’ door firmly slammed shut in our faces. Emery might as well call it a day and look back on a magnificent achievement. We are going to fall away dramatically IMO, just like the barcodes did last season.

All this ducking and diving around transfers is really annoying but we will just have to hope that Emery knows what he’s doing. After all he’s not done badly so far.
£35m for one of the best midfielders in world football is a steal for Manure. I’m convinced Tielemans was one of the first players on Emery’s team sheet. These release clauses in players contracts need to be reviewed going forward. I’m certain Emery didn’t foresee this happening, and another world cup player of ours in Digne could also be off for less than £10m (another release clause) to PSG possibly. This one i wouldn’t be too upset about because it’s a big wage off the books. I agree with above that the best option would be saying goodbye to Rogers for a large profit and keep everyone else. Having said that, i wouldn’t be surprised to see our squad decimated further. Rogers could well be off regardless, with Konsa, Martinez and Watkins also strongly linked with transfers.

As BBC reported – Villa don’t want to sell Tielemans but they’re bu**ered by the release clause.
I’m assuming that the player / players agent are the ones insisting on release clauses to prevent clubs from blocking transfers through demanding high fees which denies the agents their ‘hard earned’ percentage and its agents thar continually try to get their ‘clients’ to move clubs. There is no loyalty in football today as everyone is just chasing the next few million!
However, the player can opt to stay (even if the release fee is met) and negotiate a new contract despite the grubby hands of the agent only being interested in lining their own pockets. So if Tielemans wants to move to Manure rather than stay at Villa then he’s of no further use to us.
