Well, as I suspected, I didn’t get to see the game.
I think I’m probably glad, as it sounds like it was more of the same ponderous stuff with more poor goalkeeping.
Nah, scratch that.
I want to see every game I can, even if we play poorly.
It’s the law isn’t it? although sometimes I do wonder why I put myself through it.
I predicted the score correctly, which makes a change, but it’s disappointing seeing as we’d taken the lead.
About the only encouraging thing is that I’m convinced that if you give Abraham enough chances, he’ll get us loads of goals.
As I said in the preview, seeing as it was pretty much a one-off game, with it probably being KMac’s only game in charge, the result doesn’t particularly bother me.
Future results are a different thing though and it appears the latest news is that the club have interviewed Thierry Henry and John Terry, with a view to getting them both in, as a partnership.
Apparently, Henry has been chosen to lead and Terry will assist.
Just this morning, before I’d heard this story, I was thinking that I would commit myself to being strongly against Henry coming in as our manager. I just think he’d be coming in purely because he’s a big name.
He’d be a massive gamble; an all or nothing bet, that I really don’t think our owners would go with, as much as they might want it.
But couple him with Terry and I can see how this might be a much better bet.
Terry has played in the championship and knows what it’s about.
Equally important is that we need defenders and he could still do a job for us at this level, assuming he’d be player/assistant manager.
I’m very dubious about the whole story and it seems to me to just be a sort of ideal setup, that’s a bit too good to be true.
But it would definitely explain why both Henry and particularly Terry haven’t moved on to other things yet.
I think this link-up covers all the bases, for all parties.
Henry wants to step up.
Terry gets some experience of coaching/ managing at a higher level.
Sawaris gets his man.
And I think fans generally would go with it.
I’ve read comments on here doubting Henry and Terry’s relationship.
I’d suggest that yes, there may have been some serious rivalry between them when they were players at the same time.
But when you move up to a more senior role it all goes out of the window.
It’s a totally different role, where it’s in both their interests to pull together.
I wouldn’t have any worries about that side of things.
Hence, I could live with this combination managing our club and would fully support it.
Although my preference is still for a good foreign manager who knows very little about us, who can look at the club from top to bottom with an independent view.
I’d be looking very closely at why KMac has been in charge of the youth for so long, for a start, even if they did have a blinder on Friday night.
How long has he been in charge?, seeing as a year is a long time in football, these days?
It’s not a criticism of him.
But if many were willing to call Bruce a dinosaur, what does that make KMac?
Especially if you consider many thought he was paying a tribute to Bruce yesterday, with him changing nothing in the one chance he had.
I really don’t know. I’m just putting that thought out there for debate.

Gran Canaria tomorrow for a fortnight 🙂
Work hard, play hard etc
I off soon Badger, canary islands and Portugal on a cruise. Have a good un mate.
Oh, I’ve updated the Acorns logo too.
It only seems five minutes since it was 25 years old and now it’s 30.
John Terry jsut announced retirement from football. Surely villa Blount
I wonder what this means John Terry announced his retirement from professional football. Does that mean he won’t don a shirt for Villa when we need a CB, thought it was to good to think it would solve our defence .
Villa bound, predictive bloody text 😊😊
So if he’s coming to the Villa, he isn’t going to play for us.
That means the whole Henry/Terry story is bollocks, imo.
There’s no way he’d come and not play, given the state of our defence.
Or maybe he’s realised that if he wasn’t to be a manager then he has to concentrate on that and not confuse matters by playing on at 37 years of age. I hoped he would come back and solve our defensive problems but I now realise it’s a bit like ‘Drakes Drum’ – wonderful story but never going to happen.
I disagree Hitch.
He’d play, if he thought it was needed, because he’s that sort of man.
So either he isn’t coming or we have some defenders lined up..
If you were Terry, would you be happy to sit on the sidelines and call the shots over the bag of proverbial we’ve got?
That said, maybe that’s the test?
Even JT at his best would struggle to plug the holes in our defence!
Badger, Bill wish you both a great holiday – enjoy.
Cheers Hitch, ive another week to see what going on at Villa.DS, don’t believe you. drinks free, food free. I just dont know if I can manage it all.🚤🍺🍺👍
Yeah happy hols you two. I’m not jealous 😉
With the hours I work, the holiday is more needed than wanted at my age.
I just can’t keep doing what I do, for much longer.
It’s probably why I’m beginning to see that the likes of Bruce have had their day.
I’ll keep posting as best I can while I’m away.
Thanks for the support 🙂
Brendan Rodgers talking us up and it’s a canny answer, as you never know.:
“You get linked to a number of things,” said Rodgers. “When clubs need a manager there is always a raft of names mentioned. It’s a huge club, it’s a Premier League club, great facilities. I said it before when young John McGinn was going. Brilliant support base, good history. But I’m sure they will know who they want to go in there.”

Interesting. He certainly hasn’t distanced himself from the job in those words. On the subject of Terry, he has posted cryptic stuff before, and I wouldn’t put it past him to make this announcement to cause a bit of a stir. Given that he has been without a club since the end of last season he was unlikely to play again anyway.
Thing is, with all this cafufful going on not doing Villa much good. Be nice to know who is going to be Villas manager, I’m not so sure about Rogers he’s had a bad time with Celtics up and downs in results. Now I know Terry not donning a shirt again makes me think would it benefit Villa.I just dont know.
With regard to Rogers I’d personally welcome him with open arms. He did wonders at Swansea and then got sacked after finishing in 6th place at Liverpool (Klopp finished in 8th but didn’t get sacked).
Rogers has fallen out with the Celtic board because they wouldn’t buy in order to challenge in the Champions League and their lack of ambition has riled him. For two seasons Celtic were basically unbeatable and they played really great football.
A good tried and tested manager. Also, if he comes, I wonder if some of their better players might follow (Tierney, Boyata, Ncham and Edouard for me).
Anyway as I said before it seems like Wes, Nassef and Christian have some really good people interested and hopefully we won’t be stuck with the likes of Allardyce and Moyes.
Happier times ahead?
Pat, I’m not sure how much credit Rodgers really deserves for his time at Swansea: there are those who’d suggest that he benefitted massively from the work done there before him by Roberto Martinez; Rodgers just managed to build a little on that/not foul up.
As for his time at Liverpool, let’s just say that the ‘Pool fans I know weren’t all that impressed by his time there either.
He might not be the worst choice, and I’d take him before Allardyce and Moyes, but only because he’s younger, but I rather suspect Villa fans would find his brand of football a bit boring [unless he managed to get us promoted quickly, of course!].
I’m not convinced that a successful stint at Celtic is worth much south of the border. After all most of his time was during Rangers worst time in their history. In the championship any team can beat another. Not saying that Rodgers is a bad choice but is he the marquee choice for the new owners? A Henry and Terry combination will be much more dynamic and will bring massive media attention. Fans will be lured in by their presence alone. Will they bring success? Only time will tell if they are to be the owners choice. Martinez is another name linked although I don’t see him leaving Belgium job. An announcement looks more likely next week given international break. Let’s hope we can finally get it right. I really believe we have been jinxed for last 8 years.
Henry and Terry, have won all there is in football to win between them – so they will have some pulling power if they are allowed to spend money.
That though is not the first task which is to get shot of the Funk which Villa players go into every time the opposition scores to lead or equalise. That is a mental thing, and having these two telling you how to overcome it has got to mean you will trust their ideas.
For some reason Villa’s players have gone back to a habit last seen when we were propping-up the Premier League: absolute blind-panic when the opposition have a set-piece anywhere near our box.
Maybe some of it is down to poor goal-keeping, but someone please find a way of stopping it – quickly.
More worrying than that Ardent but also true of our Prem demise – no one fears the Villa any more and until that’s changed for good we are more at risk of doing a ‘Sunderland’ than being promoted even given the wealth of our owners!
Latest rumour is Henry unlikely to take Villa managers job – wonder who’s warned him off? Terry being touted as next manager?
Certainly wouldn’t be against having Terry as manager. At least he knows the club and should be able to sort the defence out. Also might be a natural at the job, at least according to Nathan Ake one of the best young CBs around –
http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2018/10/09/nathan-akes-previous-comments-about-john-terry-coaching-should-e/
If he does get the job though I think we’re going to have to give him some time before we jump on his back. Even if we don’t get promoted a solid season and seeing some progress taking place would be enough for me.
more likely Villa are after somebody else
I still can’t reply via the website via Android, hence I’m having to use the WordPress app.
Whatever, you’re right Steve. I’m confident we’re looking for someone else and the bookies don’t have a clue, same as the rest of us.
if Terry has got a chance of getting the job then Harry Rednaps big gob and attention seeking would not have done Terry any favours.
This is from Birmingham live 3 minutes ago.
Henry rejects Villa
Thierry Henry has rejected an offer from Aston Villa and is set to move to Monaco.
BirminghamLive understands that Villa approached – and offered – Henry the vacant position following Steve Bruce’s sacking last week.
But he is now on the way to Monaco who have decided to sack Leonardo Jardim and called on the French legend to take over
So it looks like Henry is off to AS Monaco which is obviously an offer that he couldn’t turn down. Can’t blame him really. So where does that leave us?
I wish I knew. Hope we get an announcement soon as the suspense is killing me.
It’s being said that a new manager will be in place by 20th of the month that’s 10 days away, we need one quicker to gel with the team. Christ knows what going on now.
I think Henry going to Monaco would be a mistake for his first job in management. PSG are the equivalent of Celtic in the Scottish league whereby they would have to mess up big time for any other team to win anything. Going to Villa with an underperforming team and sitting below halfway, it is a fairly risk free time to take charge. Most fans would give him a transfer window to sort out defence and would be delighted to make play offs based on current form. I would imagine the financial package at Monaco plus tax free living is something we can’t match at the moment. JT is now favourite and I would be okay with that. If that fails then Dean Smith would be my favourite, although we are going to be kept hanging for quite a while by the look of it.
What with Henry, apparently going to Monaco, what about a combination of Faria as coach and Terry as manager. They know each other from time at Chelsea, and its no surprise that mourinho he not looked the Same since he left him. Could be a win win situation.
It’s all getting a bit silly now and making Villa a bit of a laughing stock – I’m not blaming the Villa hierarchy per se, but could not some form of official statement be made by the club to back off the media? Or am I being naive?
I don’t think there’s any statement to be put-out on Villa’s part. The club originally said they wanted to appoint a manager by the 20th, and since then all the ‘news’ has just been speculation.
– It’s not as if the club have named anyone that might be on their short-list, or that Henry was pictured sneaking out of The Belfry in the last couple of days!
So what are they supposed to say about him apparently going to Monaco when the only links between him and Villa have been media rumours?
You’re right Ardent – it’s just all this click bait media nonsense. Trying to read between the lines is nigh on impossible and with so many ‘pundits’ and ‘has beens’ trying to get in on the act with either sage advice or ITK the level of reporting has exposed the football media in general for what it is.
I suppose the only ‘positive’ is that Villa is still a seriously big club that is able to attract this level of attention.
I’m still hopefull that we can persuade Brendan Rodgers to take up the reigns as I think he would quickly get us up and running. As for Terry it would be a bigger risk but given his commitment to the cause last season and the disappointment of not helping us get promoted as captain, he will be heavily driven to succeed and wouldn’t like to be outdone by Lampard and Gérard. Either or will do for me.
Terry would be my choice out of those two – simply because I believe he would have the ‘drive’ to show that anything Gerrard or Lampard can do…
I wouldn’t be upset or too surprised if they gave the job to Terry. From reports in the Mirror it seems that he has the backing of the players and that goes a long way in making a football club successful.
Yes it’s a bit of a punt but I’d definitely prefer Terry to the ‘safety’ of someone like Allardyce or Moyes.
Interesting times ahead.
Loads of speculation that it’s Rui Faria as manager with Terry his No 2. Not sure what I think about that. Plenty of positives in terms of places RF has been, winning mentality and all that. Terry knows him so if he accepted the job he knows enough to be sure he can work alongside him.
I’m not sure it ticks the attractive football box, but I guess fans will cut slack there if he can get us out of the Championship.
Faria is out of Mendes stable – now why doesn’t that surprise me!
It seems that our owners not afraid to take a gamble, if not Henry, Faria has not experience of managing a club and, often, No 2’s don’t make good leaders. I like the option of Terry coming in as No 2 though.
Jim White tweeting appointment by the weekend – we’ll see.
