Joleon Lescott is being linked with Aston Villa again! But wait, this time it’s a little different. It appears as though Aston Villa are interested in a permanent deal for the 31-year old defender. A fee of £6 million has been mentioned and it’s believed that Man. City are currently in negotiations in regards to the departure of the defender. Aston Villa are also hoping to negotiate a wage deal with Man. City that would see City pay half of Lescott’s wages for the remainder of the season. Similar to the deal which took Joe Cole to West Ham from Liverpool. Aston Villa is Lescott’s boy-hood club and a move to Villa would give Lescott more game time in an effort to secure a spot in the English World Cup squad.
Lescott’s name has been often thrown around but his move to Aston Villa never materialised. Could this be the season? I reckon it’s very unlikely, firstly a £6 million fee is just too much by Lambert’s standards. His wages would be huge plus Okore will be coming back soon. If Lescott could come on loan for the remainder of the season that would make more sense. Villa need to prioritise in midfield and I reckon Lambert will do just that.
Celtic forward Giorgios Samaras is also linked with a move to Aston Villa. The 28-year old is entering his last few months in his current deal and it’s believed that Samaras will listen to offers before committing to a new deal. Celtic are currently holding out for £2 million for the forward, who can also play out-wide. If Aston Villa are seriously interested in the forward than it’s very possible that they could snap him up cheaper. If Celtic are to lose Samaras it would be during this transfer window.
Very, very interesting. I just want to point out I never knew he was 28-years old. He always looked older. But nonetheless Samaras for £2 million or less would be a steal. I really believe that. He can play on the left, an area which we have struggled with or upfront partnering Benteke or Agbonlahor. A lot of Celtic fans praise ability and skill but claim he can be lazy at times. Still he has loads of experience and he fits Lambert’s ‘cheap policy’.
Lastly, League One forward Nahki Wells. According to the Metro a £2 million transfer is currently in the pipelines. The 23-year old has scored 26 goals in 54 last season and has already netted 15. Paul Lambert has often bought players from lower Leagues and Wells would add to that list. Wells has already been linked with a host of Championship clubs.
Oh boy, Wells isn’t a bad striker. I thought he did really well in the League Cup last season but is he Premier League level? I doubt it. Still this link makes the most sense, he’s League One quality and will come with a low price tag. I’d definitely like him at the club IF we already didn’t have Helenius and Bowery. If we could Bowery I’d be happy with Wells, but I just see no reason to have this many ‘young forwards’.
Give them Bowery on loan as part of the deal!!!
Take him permanently
6 million for Lescott!!! Someone clearly has money to burn. Maybe O’Neil has advised Villa on how much to pay for him. Waste of money when Shawcross would cost the same if not less and we’d get longer service out of him.
Samaras?!? May my eyes grow as dim as the Villa scouts eyes if he was to sign.
Samaras is dire. I would rather have 10 players. Wells is risky, but it might come off. I would like Lescott on loan just because Vlaar is so injury prone and we cant have Baker and Clark together as we will go down.
Its a midfielder that we desperately need though and sadly i dont think we will break 2m to get one. Bad times.
I hope they can nail some deals asap with the big boys to play in the up&coming weeks.the team is in tatters atm & needs some fresh blood injected into it.get a move on plse.
I see thomas hitzlesperger has come out all i have is admiration for him.good on yer mate.
Glad it wasn’t Mark Draper mate lol
Good on him though
Mate if it had of been it wouldn’t of made the slightest difference.
all in jest giddy mate
Mate i knew that. 😉
Should be fucking ashamed of yourself posting a comment like. No different to posting a racist comment.
I hope that wasn’t directed at me mate.
No mate is was directed at the original comment by MD8.
No probs it’s because your post was below mine mate if you get my drift.
Alright B6 mate, chill out, got a gay cousin and he doesn’t mind a wind up from time to time so I don’t know why you would mate, stop being sensitive and over pc, it’s a laugh.
MD8….what cause you’ve got a cousin who’s gay who doesn’t mind a wind up that has to apply to everyone does it? You fucking homophobic little [edit] oohahpaulmcrath. Please don’t use the C word B6 thanks.
B6…..you’re beginning exactly the kind of argument that keeps the barriers up mate. I’m strongly of the belief that for something to be truly accepted in society it need the piss taken out of it. My cousin truly doesn’t mind a bit of banter, same as is boyfriend and his gay mates.
I’m not gonna have a gay argument with you, nor one about homosexuality.
If you’re gay and I offended you personally then you may have some issues and for that I apologise, if not then I don’t.
Lol
No disrespect to Wells but villa have too many centre forwards. 4 of which have been signed by Lambert – Benteke, Bowery, Heleinus and Kozak. Agbonlahor is a CF but doing ok on the left and Weimann is a CF playing totally out of position and crap on the right. We also have Robison who is supposed to very good coming up from the youth.
The defence and midfield needs to sorted first before any more forwards.
Surely Carruthers and Gardner could have been given chances ahead of Tonev (who is one of the worst players i have seen in recent years).
Why this obsession in looking for young / hungry players (who by the way don’t look hungry anymore) away from our club when we have a few already there that should be given a chance.
Team for Arsenal assuming Vlaar and Baker don’t make it.
Guzan
Herd, Lowton, Clark, Luna – none of these are good enough defenders
Gardner, Sylla, delph
Weimann, Benteke (together), Gabby (out on the left).
Just shows how weak we are away from the strikers.
Fair play to Hitzlesperger for coming out. Now…does he want to resign for us?
