Leeds – Villa; We go again.

Which manager was it that used to say that? I’ve honestly forgotten. No matter.

Regardless, we’re back to the proper stuff after the tosh that is the World cup qualification. It has to be tosh because we were the first country to qualify and given that I don’t think England are any great shakes, I think that says it all about the levels our oppostion were at. I’m really not keen on a competition that just keeps expanding, hence meaning more and more games, all while my interest wains more by the year.
And then, it poses a risk to our internationals of injuries. This time, Ezri Konsa, Matty Cash, Amadou Onana and Lamare Bogarde all suffered injuries of some sort.
Fortunately, it looks like while Onana is 50/50, the other three should be fit and available to play.
The only downside then is that Mings is still definitely out.
So things could definitely have been worse.

As for Leeds, well, that’s easy. They have the whole squad available. Lucky them.

League wise, while we could go forth today, Leeds are languishing in eighteenth and are second lowest scorers (10 goals) after Wolves. Mind you, that’s not saying a lot because we’ve only scored thirteen.

Which all in all leaves me to conclude that this is a game we should win.

I could harp on about how we’re just the sort of club that loves to give struggling clubs a boost, but it just seems a recurring theme these days in my head, which is perhaps unfair of me given that after our very poor start, we’re actually not doing too badly. But with Pool getting spanked by Forest yesterday, this point keeps coming to the fore. The fact that we’ve got a desperately poor Wolves next week won’t allay that thought either.

So, what to think?
Well, I’m always trying to keep my positive head on, as much as it might sometimes seem different, but I can’t get away from thinking that we should definitely win this.
Quite simply, I’m going for a 2-1 victory.

  1. Nice to see Youri in.
    No Elliot. Again.

Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne, Kamara, Tielemans, McGinn, Buendia, Rogers, Watkins.

Subs: Bizot, Lindelof, Bogarde, Barkley, Maatsen, Hemmings, Malen, Sancho, Guessand.

    1. No, I think Elliott off back to Pool after Christmas – it seems Emery, albeit saying supportive things, doesn’t feel he’ll fit into our system – we’ll not at £35m anyway.

Hard game football at the very top.

      1. Just to add, a couple of my Pool supporting friends have said they need him back – go figure!

  2. So no Mr Glass or Elliott who must wish he had never signed. We should win today but I don’t feel as confident away from home.

  3. Oh for fuck sake even the leeds fans are saying they are shit and we concede in tem minutes unfuvkingbelievable

  4. The frame on TV looks offside. Martin’s needs to be stronger. What a load of rubbish VAR is

  5. We have started shit ann getting bullied and Watkins should have had a shot on goal after great pass by McGinn but he showed lack of pace and strength. Times up for him unless he delivers soon.

  6. Sorry to say the long history of Leeds is still part of their game (fouling ) it’s Don Revie’s part of the game foul players off the ball and on the ball. When will we learn?

  7. I’m trying to work out how a defender who’s behind Watkins manages to get the header?

As for the goal, I hope Inter really do want Martinez. That was awful goalkeeping.

  8. Villa players looking like they’re running in treacle!

Leeds want it more but Jones (ref) favouring Leeds.

We’re not even in this game – giving Leeds far too much respect.

  9. This has turned into a real scrap. We’re starting to give as good as Dirty Leeds get. Far from over…

    1. 🙂

Without Tyrone we don’t have the big, no nonsense players and when McGinn is fouled – at least twice – the ref ignores it.

  10. I’ll say it till the cows come home we are a prima donna side and if you don’t toughen up its game over.

  11. We don’t like to be roughed up and the ref is allowing it. Emery needs to make the players realise at half time that if we don’t win the battles, then we won’t win the game. Rogers and Watkins for most of the first half left us with 9 men on the pitch. Martinez at fault again for their goal with a pansy attempt to catch the ball. Buendia is head and shoulders our best player so far. All the others need to up their game.

  12. Rasputin’s instructions must have been ‘rough em up they don’t like it up em’. So we played into their hands by fielding Your and Emi and dropping Onana. I see no special chemistry between these two little guys – only two players both trying to to the same job. No Onana exposes Torres to his known weakness – he gets bullied by big, black forwards, and there are a lot of those around the EPL. First goal comes eventually from Torres being out-jumped by a bbf. But only after ignoring a barge on the keeper and a wrong decision by VAR. A player can only be played onside by a part of his body that he may use to play the ball. Arms from the armpit to the hands are not included so Leeds were offside from the freekick.

  13. How do you get the ball to go up and down so much with so little pace on it?
And to think some don’t rate Rogers.
And that’s handball. Should still be 2-1
