Lansbury in the bag; Pros and Cons

I have to say straight off that I’m not 100% convinced by the source, which is HITC;

http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2017/01/11/aston-villa-set-to-land-henri-lansbury/page/1/

Since when have they ever been first in coming out with Villa news?

Whatever, I’m willing to stick my neck on the block in going with it, as I think it’s in the bag anyway.

So what does he bring to us?

He can stick his foot in (that’s Westwood hopefully demoted) and creates and scores (likewise Gardner) when he’s on his game, which he has been lately.
Consider he’s in a team that’s struggling and a club that’s in a very iffy place with the takeover turmoil, yet he’s still achieving, that surely has to be a good thing?

But, he can disappear in games.
Indeed, if you read the Forest fans views, there are just as many want him gone as want him to stay, because of his inconsistency.

Whatever, at £3 millon he has to be worth a go and weren’t there similar suggestions about Adomah, who I think has been mostly good for us?

Hmm, the title isn’t that relevant really, is it?, as I can’t see many downsides.

The rumoured £40k a week wages might prove to be a drag if it goes wrong, but overall I’d say this is a great buy.
A hopefully rejuvenated player (inspired by the massive wage rise) in a club that’s seemingly on the up should help move us forward.

  1. At this money, I can’t see how it can be classed as a bad buy even it it goes boobs up.

  2. In context of football-money [even in this division] this is small-change. Can’t see why it shouldn’t be worth a punt – and he may be just what we need to spark some life into the midfield.

  3. Even Kozak at £4mill wasn’t seen as a total disaster signing, even though he hardly played and proved to be close to worst case

This has to be as close to no-lose as it gets, imo.

    1. Hmmm not sure about Lansbury. Is he better than what we have I would say yes though that’s not hard. Possibly one level up from what we’ve got but still need a lot more in midfield than just one player. At some point he’s bound to be injured, suspended or gave a few bad games. Kodja btw does go missing in games eskecjally away from home when we play feisty teams he bottles it imo.

      1. ooh ah
usual story is he better than what we got ,the last few seasons anyone would
gardner looked good along side him
        is that good or bad

    2. For his price tag, it’s a no-lose. His wages are supposedly going to be upwards of like 40k a week which he’s not worth. Maybe half that. But I guess at 3m we can afford to pay him that. His goals and assists will come in handy, not sure he adds that steel our fans want in midfield. Too bad there wasn’t an English version of Sanchez, Bruce would be all over that, because god forbid he looks abroad.

      1. Andrew – is it steel we want in midfield? What we desperately seem to lack in mid field is (even a) player that can make those driving well timed runs into the penalty box which unhinges the defence. Isn’t that one of Lansbury’s attributes.

Other pluses are price and also didn’t he establish a good mid field partnership with Gardener last season?

  4. Sorry Giddy, had to look back for your comment, it was on the web last night ,then on national rag, then on Birmingham mail, all statements that Nottingham had agreement and Bruce comment was booking a medical today for him.

Aston Villa are preparing a medical for Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury and hope to sign him by the weekend, according to reports.

HITC Sport claim a bid has been accepted for the Championship ace as Forest are also set for a change of ownership.

  6. Very, very sad just heard the news; a much respected member of the Villa family. Suffered unnecessary levels of personal abuse as England manager but never ever lost his self respect. Football is a sadder place. Condolences to his family

  7. Bloody hell. GT the first big name casualty of 2017. Sad news. Villa man through and through. RIP.

  8. My God is 2017 going to be as bad as 2016 for people dying?

Quite shocked to hear the news. Only have great memories of him at VP.

Football has lost one of its best. RIP

  9. Only people that are sadism would say or dishonor him Bum bum, a gentleman and honest person was Graham Taylor, the media turned on him for players fun in that so called England side.he proved his abilities at Villa, Fulham, a fine man.

  10. sad day 🙁 R.I.P GRAHAM TAYLOR.

i will always remember, how he turned aston villa around. finishing bottom with a really bad squad of players. in came Taylor, bought lower league players, players that were just to get us promoted. he managed that in first season. finishing 2nd. we survived that first year in 1st division. then he kicked us on the following season finishing runners up to pool. he made villa profit on platt buying him for 200k selling for millions to bari. 🙁 r.i.p. thank you Graham

  11. Sad news.

GT was a real gent and will always be a big part of Villa’s history, despite a relatively brief total time at the club.

    R.I.P.
