Paul Lambert is under increased pressure following four defeats in a row which has resulted in Aston Villa nearing the relegation zone. This ultimately has put the club into their third relegation fight in a row. Despite the increase of pressure he’ll be given another chance to turn Aston Villa’s fortunes around. Lerner has made cash available in January, but stressed there will be no big signings such as Bent in 2011. Lambert has spent £18 million in the summer transfer window.
Lambert has been planing transfer targets for the past few weeks and it’s believed that Lambert is targeting a winger, creative midfielder and a striker to improve the squad. Additionally, Aston Villa will once again listen to offers for fringe players such as Shay Given, Alan Hutton and Joe Bennett.
Following the defeat to Crystal Palace Lambert has admitted that further acquisitions are needed in order to avoid another relegation battle with the squad thin on quality players and experience.
“The club is miles from where I want it to be, an absolutely country mile, and you want to take it right through to the levels. To do that you need to keep building it and adding quality to it and adding at every turn,” he said. “I don’t want to be sitting like this every time [after a defeat]. If you want to fight it you fight it, I’m not going to run away from it.
“There’s always pressure even if you are on a winning run. In football now you get one or two games, the way football management is, it’s always the case. If you’ve lost two games, not won for two games, there’s a crisis there, it’s got more and more shorter. We’ve got to turn the home form around. There’s no magic formula. The lads are edgy at certain things but they have to overcome that and they can.” – Paul Lambert

Arguably the back 4 is more important. We need to have a solid left back who does not need Gabby on the wing to protect him, then Gabby can play down the middle and Kozak can drift left if needs be.
I accept that Lambert took a worthwhile gamble on the young players who make up the back four with Vlaar. He should give players who have come through the youth system a chance, though frankly their chances would improve if they stepped up one at a time, not four at once. But it has not taken the fans long to realise that the current crop are not going to make it in the Premiership – why is it taking the manager longer?
I still believe managers and teams can improve.. I don’t know if this one can he may utterly fail .. but every article i see the same old same old .. Lambert out f off lerner, f off lambert etc etc .. but i will keep asking the same question in response,whats the alternative?
