Fulham Vs Aston Villa – Preview

Aston Villa travel to Craven Cottage after a trip to Saint Mary’s where Aston Villa took all 3 points in an unlikely fashion. Villa scored three goals from three shots on target and won the game despite only having 27% of ball possession. Will it be a similar story against Fulham? That might be unlikely, with two key defenders suffering injuries, Vlaar and Luna. Lambert will likely revert back to a back 4. What will likely stay the same is the forward partnership of Agbonlahor and Kozak, both strikers scored against Southampton and that will leave out-of-form forward Benteke on the bench.

Fulham suffered another defeat on Wednesday but new manager Rene Meulensteen will be encouraged by Fulham’s performance against Tottenham in their 2-1 defeat. Melensteen will be searching for his first victory as Fulham boss against Aston Villa.

Team News:
Fulham are hoping that centre-back Brede Hangeland will be fit enough to return to the first team. The defender has missed the last seven fixtures with a sciatic nerve problem. Darren Bent can not face his parent club, Aston Villa.

Paul Lambert may be without key defender Ron Vlaar and Antonio Luna. Both defenders suffered injuries during the Wednesday game against Southampton.

Match Facts:
Fulham have won just one of the last eight Barclays Premier League games against Aston Villa (W1 D4 L)
Villa are unbeaten in their last five Barclays Premier League games; only Everton (7) are currently on a longer run.
There have been just four goals scored in the last four Premier League meetings between Fulham and Aston Villa.
Fulham have trailed in 11 games this season, more than any other side. They have lost 10 of these matches (W1).
In midweek Dimitar Berbatov assisted a Premier League goal for the first time in over a year (since November 10th 2012)
American ‘keeper Brad Guzan has made 45 catches, 18 more than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League this season

Predicted Lineups:

Stekelenburg
Reither-Senderos-Hughes-Risse
Dejagah-Sidwell-Parker-Kacaniklic
Kasami
Berbatov

Agbonlahor-Kozak
Tonev
Delph-Westw00d-El Ahmadi
Luna-Baker-Clark-Bacuna
Guzan

Match Prediction:
Fulham 1-1 Aston Villa

I reckon it’ll be a draw this week, Aston Villa pulled off a fantastic win against Southampton but can Lambert do it again? I don’t think we can play the same tactics against Fulham simply because their aren’t as strong as Southampton. Villa will go for it this weekend but I reckon Fulham will get something from this game, simply because theres a new manager in charge.

  1. 3 points tomorrow would be lovely. I will hold my hands up and admit that I can see progress being made, even at the cost of having to watch some of the worst football I’ve seen us play in recent times. As bad as the man I won’t mention? Probably.

Guts, fight and a bit of lady luck are seeing us push on at the moment and points are what matter the most.

4-0 tomorrow? Above Manure? Surely not!! COYL

I think whoever scores first (excluding an own goal) stands a great chance if taking a 1 goal lead.

And to quote a certain Bluenose comedian, if the ball goes in the net, it’d be a goal.

So I put a post up asking a serious question about the state of the game and no-one gives a toss? 🙂

Fair enough, I suppose; it is a Villa site after all.

But I was at least expecting a bit of debate and slating, tbh, seeing as it’s a Saturday evening.

Roll on the game, I’m bored shitless and only have walking the dog to look forward too.

  4. Badger iv tried posting on the new post no luck mate, fucking phone again?

    2. Giddy still think Berbatov’s a waste of space?

      1. Caught him on a good day didn’t see or hear the game so can’t comment.

  6. If Villa went in for Hughes from Derby and Ince from Blackpool (both YOUTH players) our midfield would be in a far better place.

Well, Villa are back…..Lambert playing Herd is a shocking tactic, never ever will he be a Prem player, mind you, we have half a quad of them

He haas no choice with vlaar injured. Not heards fault were losing bacuna should never had made a challange for pen no need to. They are letting us have it at the back so effectively it’s a home game for us which is why we are struggling good tactic from Fulham. Utd at home next with no delph or maybe vlaar.

Westwood is absolutely shite at set pieces can’t even clear first man from corner and free kick he hits out. Absolute shite

What’s the matter with our players win lose or draw there the same there’s no confidence building we beaten arsenal man city Southampton you wouldn’t think it looking at them they look like they don’t what to be there what’s lambert saying to them we have a team full of robots

  8. FFS….Westwood is so shit…cant take a simple corner or even a basic free kick. How the fuck is he playing in the PL. Just an indication of how crap the PL is….fucking pathetic!
Lowton should be behind Bacuna who is also having a weston!

Agreed. Oh for a Scott Parker or garage Barry in the team. Lamberk out

    2. Just texted that to my mate, he’s never a premiership player

  9. The ref has been shocking today that and we still have no creativity.

Even on bbc sport there questioning lerner ambition what is our goal to be out played by every team in the league we should be bottom we got lucky changes needed at villa this is embarrassing

      1. I keep posting this and i truly believe it Lerner’s attempting to do a money ball at VP. Looking at the stats of player and buying them on the back of that, if only it was that easy.

  10. Absolute rubbish, seen better football on a Sunday morning.

  11. Only Delph deserves any credit from that shambles IMO. And the fans were amazing again. They deserved so much better. I cant blieve that an ageing team like Fulham won virtually every second ball. Berbatov run us ragged without even breaking into a sweat!

    1. totally agreed the away fans again were magnificent ~didn’t deserve that from the team, money is tight, that was a poor poor team display ~ I think some of them players need 2 dig deep deep in2 their pockets.refund those top fans they stayed with the players rite 2 the end

      OohAhPaulMcGrath

We just happened to play against berbatov who wanted to know today. Typical. Even though they are aging they still have class and quality which we don’t. Wev been riding our luck for ages this season and were found out good and proper today. Thought gabby did ok fwiw

      1. Thought he was a bag of shit yesterday?
What do they say about form being temporary and class permanent??

        1. OohAhPaulMcGrath avatar
          OohAhPaulMcGrath

True he usually is shite but no doubting his class just that he dosnt show it much

          1. Shite Class? Isn’t that an oxymoron?

  12. the worst performance by far by villa and the ref

can’t believe we never used the wingers until 80 mins, predictable PUNT up field 2 strikers no width. Fulham were just Fulham nothing special bacuna I must say again should not be playin fullback, weimannn is not the floating forward behind 2 strikers hes not clever enough and westwood is not a dead ball player

grrrrrrrrr iam so anger cos we never played we lost cos bad ref decisions and bad tactics

  13. Jay Dee avatar

Fulhams penalty not a penalty but I think ours was a better shout but not given.Back four pretty poor today Bacuna the main culprit.Westwoods dead ball deliveries been poor.We looked a muddle and couldn’t really string anything together.Hard for me to say but today boring and limbless but that doesn’t mean it will last forever.Bad day at the races UTV

  14. Get some experience in January or fuck off Lerner.
Fuck off Lerner, the Villa is OURS!

I don’t even know what to say about that performance.. it was nothing short of disgracefull..

The team picked was totally wrong.. the defnence i can forgive because Vlaar Okore Luna are all out BUT the midfield is a complete and utter joke.. even a blind man can see we need a new midfield.. delph plus three others as a min..

Westwood is tripe. K EA too.. Weimann has done nothing all season..

We can not even complete two passes together.. we are not playing the Stoke way.. this is a way lot worse… we can’t construct a move FFS… our game plan is too hoof it to Gabby and Benteke route one trying to create something..

    Subs weren’t made..

After last jans diabolic we won’t be getting nothing in Jan..

Benteke is a shadow of his former self..

    Depressing…

  16. FA cup draw at 4pm…i dreading getting Kidderminster at home, why, well, lets just say it scares me!
Giddy, will we get Kiddy, you drunken old twat lol 🙂

  17. Hi langford what a shame i was praying for that outcome,& yes mate im pretty bladdered pub crawl tenbury wells.

  18. #HELENIUS avatar
    #HELENIUS

Im not sure how people are surprised, we have been this bad most of the season, only the luck has gone our way. This time it didn’t and we were made to look like the bottom 3 side. Long ball after hoof after pump it…..No wonder Benteke looks disinterested with that being our only service, I am too…!!

I said at the beginning Westwood is useless…..And was shot down with the usual “Give him time, he might be class” tripe….. He’s probably the worst CM in the league – I bet Crewe were as dumbfounded as me when we put in an offer….!!!

Herd is the same, will never be good enough…Id have had Lowton on with Delph left back and Bacuna in the middle, couldn’t have been any worse.

Weimann is poor, Gabby is hit and miss, Clarke and Baker need Vlaar or they’re crap and so on and so on…..

Men v boys today – Experience v amateurs – I hope Lambert learns from this and gets in some much needed known and proven Prem League players.

Seriously Fulham are woeful – We must be total dogshit

Villa Park v Man u next – Might sell my ticket
