Everton 0 – 2 Villa; A great win, as much as it didn’t inspire me.

I feel like a bit of a hypocrite really, because I often say that the result is all that matters and today we got it.
I also often say that I like to watch an entertaining game. We got that too, I think.

It just felt a bit lacking to me, though, in that it was like watching two teams running through treacle and achieving very little.

There was plenty of pace to the game and I can’t even say I thought we played poorly. We didn’t and I thought the game was won in the midfield.
It’s not very often I say it, but I thought Ramsay was excellent today. His runs looked really threatening and you can see he scares the opposition with his directness.
McGinn too, looked back to his powerful self.
But I often found myself wondering how we would look against a better side and that’s where my nagging doubts creep in.

Our defence was rarely challenged, yet when it was, we looked poor again in my opinion.
I’m not going to go into specifics, but it’s enough to say I don’t trust it as a unit.
My previous comments about it needing a major upgrade still applies.
I dislike our messing around at the back too, but I’ve said it before.
Fortunately a low scoring Everton didn’t have enough to take advantage, although Martinez did make a couple of good saves, along with an equally good off the line clearance by Mings.
That said, Pickford made a blinding save too, which equals things up a bit.

Did we deserve a 2-0 win?
It’s hard to say really, as I feel a draw or a 1-0 either way might have been a fair result.
But we got the three points and that’s all that matters really isn’t it?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not on a downer or anything.
It just all seems a bit meh.

A game I expected us to win.
Which we did.
I’m not really sure what else there is to be said, apart from Happy days!

UTV!

How many disasters do we need from this playing from the back before kop on. At least stop until we have it right in practice

  2. Can you believe the way we piss about in defense ? So bloody stupid playing like that, who tell them to hold the ball in there own half , should be asked.

We have to put poor teams away and palace are poor. We also need to get our goal difference into the black. The teams above us are way ahead.

It was those last 3 games that did for us…
      Come on Villa!!!!!

Shit – looks like Kamara’s going to be out for some time.

    That weakens us considerably

We don’t have a great record against 10 men 🙂

Or Palace. Our defense looks very shaky.

Bailey frustrates the crap out of me. He hangs onto the ball way too long, misses too many chances to pass. Not a team player for me.

We should be attacking them more than we are. I hate this messing around at the back

God, I also hate Arsenal today. Their fans must be bloody well enjoying it though!

A wins a win but what an awful game of football.

One shot on goal in the whole game. Palace are terrible and we seemed to be suffering nerves after the last two home games.

Still onwards and upwards – reckon Emery can now stop talking about relegation 🙂

    1. Agree Hitch, an absolutely woeful game of football.

      1. It was so bad I don’t think I could bring myself to pick a man of the match.
But saying that it’d been nice if Chelsea hadn’t picked up 3 points so we could have moved to ninth.

    Terrible game
we were poor and palace even worse

was it me or did it look like we had 10 men and not palace

i can see at least 5 players in this team who will be gone in the summer

One of the dullest games all season. I think Emery reigned in our more cavalier approach to playing at home. Palace were poor and Zaha was their only threat. McGinn definitely looking like he is at his best and Cash did well too. I hope Kamara is okay but he didn’t look like he will be fit for the next game.
A win is the all important thing though and ends our bad run at home. Pity Chelsea won and prevented us moving up to 10th.
