Derby 2- 0 Villa; maybe a bit of perspective?

Ok, I expected to lose this one, so it’s not a major loss, in my opinion.
I called the score too, so hey hoh.
But it’s really not that important and while I see some of you are majorly upset, I don’t think it’s such a bad loss in the greater scheme of things.

Look. We will lose games over this season, because we really aren’t that great.
But it’s more about how the squads can last the pace and look how Sheff U have quickly fallen back.

There is no doubt that we have one of the best squads in the league, as much as we moan and bitch about the quality.
And we have to hope that this is what will sustain us in the long run.

Let’s get real and face the fact that we started yesterday without a proper striker.

Our squad is cut to ribbons with injuries (and in fairness, this has been an on-going thing, where you have to wonder why?) yet we are still up there.

All that said, we started the game without a recognised striker and you’re on to a loser before you start.
I seriously have to question why Hogan didn’t start?
And I can only think Steve Bruce thinks he’s useless.

Which makes you wonder who actually bought him?

Ha, I’m taking a positive view, just to counter the criticism that the site in general, is too negative.

Let’s see where we go in the next few weeks.

I predict a few losses over the Christmas period.
But it’s still a long term game, where regardless of what you think of Bruce, it’s what he does.

We’ll be thereabouts, at least.

  1. expectation is over rated just another excuse lol i bet bristol had less expectation compared with man utd. not that utd lost cause they couldn’t handle the pressure. but they couldn’t beat a team with no expectation and a team with little to lose can raise their game.they beat a team like utd lmao not villa / utd with a team full off superstars. even if utd sent out their 2nd string they should be beating bristol. after all all championship clubs are shit except wolves off course. clubs like villa should be beating these championship clubs. somebody should tell moanrino

  2. An odd post that. In fact Bruce mentioned Bristol as a side that doesn’t have expectations like Villa do. And yes, United should’ve trounced them, and in fact a lot of United fans have turned on Mourinho due to the result and style of play they play, which is overly defensive. They used half their first team, plus the back up’s to their starters. 1 kid played who usually makes the bench for their league games. It was an incredibly strong side, and they were out played and outwitted and well done to Bristol. They played with no fear, something we haven’t done in ages, bar under Houllier and Lambert’s first season. Our teams play with a lot of fear in them.

    1. goes to show you what most fans know then if they turned on moanrino.

but my sarcastic post wasn’t aimed at the utd fans.

  3. Anyways. A lot of talk of Johnstone being available for 5m to Premier League sides, and 3 wanting him. Not sure I’d be sad to see him go, personally. Steer’s fit, has been back up for every Premier League game. If not him, we could easily find a suitable keeper to bring in on loan from elsewhere. But I’d love to see Steer finally given a shot for us. 5m is a lot to waste on a keeper if we only have that little bit of money. Personally think United should just keep him out on loan, 6 months isn’t going to change his price tag and more teams will look for keepers in the summer.

    1. another great example of finishing off another clubs youth product while ours waste away twiddling his thumbs. but here is a important point. is johnstone better that steer. ??? is onomah better than ohare. if you were the manager would these villa kids be getting the game. well i doubt the answer is yes unless you didn’t want to keep your job long.

bruce or any manager lives as long as he continues to satisfy the goals of the club. once the results change for the worse, he will be on the slippery slope to p45 ville next to whoville. bruce probably thought he needs to loan johnstone in, because he is the better keeper available, which he is at this moment and definitely was last season when he arrived.

most important johnstone has improved as would have steer had he played, but steer worse not ready johnstone wasn’t ready. he has made mistakes and still does. but the more he played less the mistakes come. so steer could have played. he has one season under his belt so not a complete novice at this level.

johnstone wasn’t worth 5 million last year. utd will be proud we made them some money

  4. the season is too old to dramatically change tactics and even the momentum. these sort of drastic changes come about in preseason. when they have more time to prepare and practice drills and more drills. perfecting all aspects of their tactics.

what needs to happen is more work on the match day fields. more purpose possession. move movement off the ball making the guy on the ball more options. ( it makes it easier for us and harder for the opposition) keeping the shape which means if the winger comes inside, actually try to achieve something instead of losing the ball and then leaving a massive gap for the opposition to attack down. staying out wide will also give our players options to have always. both our wingers have tendency to come inside. yes this can be productive but only if they return soon as they finished of the move inside.

davis does give villa the extra platform, another target if needed. but shouldn’t always be the first option. villa need to work the opposition more. that means keeping the ball moving the ball and opponents. this is something we fail to do, we did achieve against derby in parts of the game. because we had no target man we had to use the ball better. but even if we have davis we should use the ball better. we have become one dimensional. teams have worked out our game patterns.

without the ball we need to be more like we was beginning of the season. lately we have be all over the place in open play and most defiantly from set pieces, is this down to loss of terry, not sure. but we are being beaten by just simple crosses. as for pressing this is not good as well. we are pressing in ones and twos. but again this is down to organisation and leadership.

these things are easy to address and can be amended quickly. its not always as simple as the manager or coaches as said on here. it could be all down to confidence and fatigue. losing terry and other influential players.

if they can amend one thing, other things could amend themselves. more movement, this will fix loads of things. like stopping players hitting 20 yards backpasses. or hitting davis too early leaving him with no support. it will also tire out the opposition as they will have to work harder to regain the ball, keep the opposition guessing our tactics.

    do i get a job, i need a raise

  5. so if we did my first thing we have a solid shape without the ball. and a good shape with the ball. players have options, if your under pressure you have the wingers who should be wide and ready to receive. or davis who is always ready. but these should not always be the first and only options to hit.

next and more harder to pull off is we need more players of the grealish types. they are match winners. at present we have only grealish. he has not many fans on here. but he is a complete footballer. in he can drifted past players. this is a art. i loved to do this. but i was more pace and stamina. grealish drops a shoulder and moves the ball so quick its scary. so he can beat a player so what. no he then does something unheard off. he lifts his head up and looks at options. if he has them i think he will hit them. but not runners at moment.

players like grealish need other players like themselves to play off or runners like hogan to hit. we could do with a more players doing these attributes that grealish does. both wingers adomah and snodgrass should be more offensive with the ball. they never seem to affect the game. yes adomah is scoring which is affecting the game. but wingers have to affect the game in creating chances. beating your full back so the opposition have to double up on you.

if we have more players creating havoc like grealish did to derby this creates spaces for the less gifted players. i would encourage the wingers to stay wider and only come inside on the odd occasions. coming inside they are coming into traffic and the opposition know this, allow them to enter the blind ally. stay out wide and beat the full back, keep their head up and when they are being doubled mark, release the ball quicker. they have done their jobs by pulling two defenders out of the way on the wing

  6. team news onomah is a doubt and lansbury is also missing. guess what their will be room for a certain ohare. bruce will be able to select him he probably listened to your great advise

onomah is ok player but i cant see him as the player behind the striker, that role is grealish then its lansbury i havent seen loads of ohare but what i have he has more than onomah.

but in football its what ou do when you get the chance, if ohare does get in he has to make it count and make it hard to be dropped like davis has.

  7. About bloody time, so whats his excuse on Lansbury? we can guess on Onomah that sticks out a mile NBG.I reckon he’s woke up has Bruce, well we need a win but my Christmas not starting till I see the results tomorrow.

  8. onomah is more reliable in a managers eyes than a untried kid. lansbury i wouldnt personally put in that role. but have him coming further back deeper. making runs. from his forest days i saw him lots of times and he is brilliant at late burst late runs grealish would pick such runs out. ohare seen him a few times. he also makes intelligent runs, he came on against wednesday with grealish and between them they turned the tide alittle. but i think it was more wednesday closing out the game. whether or not. grealish was demanding the ball and spraying it about. he found ohare runs inside right. who crossed into samba, so they have shown they link up.

grealish needs runners and ohare and hogan need players like grealish. i would love to see hogan with davis. but then wouldnt be room for grealish. who would be a manager honestly

    1. Problem with your first argument of Onomah being more reliable than an untried kid, is that before this season, Onomah was an untried kid. He’s never been on loan and never has he been a regular for Spurs. This is his first actual season as a regular. No reason O’Hare couldn’t have gotten that chance over him..

      1. wrong again andrew onomah had been playing higher youth lvl and was and is a bigger prospect than ohare. why else is he currently at spuds and ohare is not. spuds will hope he improves at villa to play him or sell him. ohare has to break into the villa side or another side to prove he has a future even at the low lvl we are,

so of you making statements about ohare make me laugh. i seen the same firendles you seen and yes he is a prospect but your not the coaches who train him daily as am i not. the coaches will report to bruce and they decide if he is ready. as i stated before he is behind a queue and one player in front of him like it or not is josh. and he is less of a gamble. because he can last the 90 minutes. i saw ohare against wigan. he was fading rapidly.

your arguing is unjust until ohare breaks into the side and does something that its not speculating.now fook off with this discussion first you claim you wnt him in then you never said you want him in but on the bench now you saying onomah was the same. bruce looked at both and he went with the player more ready to play not one game but majority of the season hence why he loaned him in for the season.

same situation with goalies he brought in jonnstone because he decided that ours where not ready and probably not up to the standards. where johnstone was less of a risk

      2. and the most important point is andrew when onomah came to villa to first train. he was in direct competition with ohare. players train and coaches assess fans speculate. he can not fool the coaches if he was ready, he would be playing and their wouldn’t need to be a onomah at the club. but a season is more than one game long. ohare could have been in onomah boots. onomah has been pants but he has been able to last the 90 minutes and that part is sound. he has managed to avoid injuries because he is fit. injuries happen more when fatigued. so if they were both starting from the same why has onomah been picked before ohare. it certainly its skill because ohare looks better to me. it might be he is bringing in cakes to coaches yes that is it he is bribing his way to the top

  9. I wouldnt mind seeing a front 3 of Grealish, Hogan, Ohare. Get the ball down, pass it around and play the intelligent through balls. I would personally say Ohare has shown as much as Onomah has in just the few times hes had an opportunity so Bruce should be just as confident in him.

  10. Great chance to get back to winning tomorrow. Sheff Utd have 1 point in last 5 games. They seem to have blown up.

    I’m still not confident.

  11. Jake Doyle-Hayes is a brilliant player FROM what i saw in friendlies PRESEASON and the only game he has played same as ohare.

but both lack the statue and strength to last the 90 of a competitive game. does he have the skills now?? off course he is now in my opinion so much better than whelen, jedi ,lansbury and all the midfielders in the set up. he has imagination to pass anywhere on the field. he has great ability to spot the pass before he receives the ball. he switches play without a thought and he buzzes around knitting play. GREAT why isn’t he playing. because he isn’t bloody ready. if the manager plays them not ready it could destroy them. could lose us more points because they need to make mistakes. in life we learn from mistakes, jake will first train with the 1st teamers. he has to outshine them. prove he can last the 90 and still play to his high lvl. ppl all develop at different stages i had a facial hair when i left primary school and was bigger than my secondary teachers. but some are not physically strong enough to last a competitive 90 and still play football

  12. looking forwards to the game. i looked a sheff utd earlier in season. when their form was better than currently is the situation, they look a real handful. very aggressive in your face team fair thou. the type of team that will give villa headaches. we always seem to struggle against the hardworking in your face teams like millwall.

yeah they are struggling, but playing villa is a fillet to any team, wanting to bench themselves against the supposedly best in this league. so what ever form they had, won’t matter its like the cup final situation, to them.

i forgot we always lose against top 6 so that fooks up my afternoon beer and enjoyment, no point playing

    1. Nath, do you ever find yourself standing in front of the mirror arguing with yourself? I only ask because you go on and on and on and on and on.

You seem to struggle to let things go.

Instead of writing essays repeating yourself why not move on with the rest of us.

      1. i would have moved on if andrew hadn’t opened up the conversation again. to me andrew is saying he knows better than the coaches of a professional football club. they worked with players and they asses them each individually to pick the best team.

i am sorry you think i go on. i will shut the fook up then and allow you to discuss footballing stuff, while i kick the fook out off my reflection

  13. When does a player become ‘ready’?.. in my opinion a player becomes ready by playing a lot for the full team in competitive games. Mistakes or not every player makes them at all ages, no fan really cares about mistakes if that player is seen to be hardworking and trying their best. Sick of this wrapping the under 23’s in cotton wool. We dont need to pussy foot around, at 18/19 they are men! If they cant last 90 mins of football when they are at their fittest whats going on? Bruce just has to show some balls and a bit of faith to give them the opportunity. Sadly i dont think he will.

      1. surely this comment is continuing the debate. or is it only over, when b6 says so. their is no way any manager is picking teams based on age. they are picking them on ability. in case of ohare and onomah one is 19 and other is 20.

fitness these days is so scientific if your fitness is not up to scratch, this will be picked up by the monitors they wear in practice and matches, that is the reason and nothing else why some kids are overlooked

i will apologise in advance for two paragraphs

  14. Any predictions? I’m not over confident due to team selection not with us yet, I’ll take a guess Draw at the best. And may I add that will hurt me because it will mean we will lose Faith in the club. 1-1

  15. for those fans who like football. watch sheff wed v bro. take notice of how wednesday players move when they have the ball. where ever the position on field, player on the ball has at least two options to pass too, this is where villa are behind or lacking, movement or lack of it means we are poor passing and reason we are passing back.

  16. just been reading the fans forum on sheff utd. very informative fans. getting behind their club. woodpecker that makes a refreshing change. one post says even with a depleted squad they will smash us. another post has been reading villa posts and say villa fans are confident. lets hope over confident.

No Coutts, Fleck, Brooks, Freeman. Sharp out of form. Let the good times roll. I’m going to have a drink every time they say overlapping CBs. Fuck it, 2-1 to United for no logical reason

i reckon its gonna be a tough game. sheff utd will press villa and try to break on our slow defence. against derby we had lady luck shinning. we should have been 3 or 4 down in first 20 mins

    0 1 sheff utd

  17. I didn’t get chance to write anything chaps, sorry.
I’ve just got in and have bought a Sky week pass.

Big test this and another tough one, where I’m not very confident.
Utd have lost 4 out of their last 5 and we all know what that means.

Will Grealish do the business today?
    I hope so, but I’m going for a 1-1 or a 1-0 loss.
    Fingers crossed.

  18. Last time ont telly we put in a brilliant performance and lost,we can do the opposite this teatime #bipolarblades.

Wilder wont change his ways to try and get a result or avoid defeat, its not in his makeup its gungho-ho-ho all the way

this one is like many many more. so villa have to be ready for another millwall type game. sheff utd will not be sitting back .
