There’s been very little to write about and the only thing that has been really noticeable for me is that we haven’t moved quickly to bring any players in.
That tells me we had no plan in place to save our position in the Premier league, plain and simple. If we had, we’d have got them in quickly so they can bed in as quickly as possible in my opinion; but we don’t seem to be in any rush at all.
It’s just common sense really, but I’m just putting my view on record. A view that says we’re going down the “we’re already relegated” route. More of which follows further down.
There is an interesting story via the Daily Mail though, that suggests Leeds United, QPR and Derby are all interested in signing Jack Grealish on loan, presumably until the end of the season.
I think this is a great idea, as although it seems Remi Garde is easing the lad back into the squad, I don’t believe he thinks Grealish does enough to warrant a start overall. Which is a stance I totally agree with for what it’s worth.
So given that we’re massive odds on to be relegated, does it make sense to get him in amongst the blood and guts that is the Championship (in the middle of winter, no less) to get him acclimatised beforehand?
I think yes, if he isn’t going to start much in the rest of this season. He’s going to have to get used to it sometime after all, because I very much doubt he’d want to leave the club, as much as things aren’t going his way at the moment.
Which leads me on and takes me back to where I started. We’re now solely concentrated on our next season being in the championship, if the Daily Mirror are to be believed.
The article talks about us aiming solely at championship level free signings, which is all very depressing in itself, but probably not as much so for the everyday people who are inevitably going to have to be sacked/laid off/made redundant or whatever you want to call it.
It’s all quite sad and nothing winds me up more than people being put out of work, but these are the realities of relegation and it’s all very probable.
I suppose there are a couple of plus points in that we may actually be able to sing Gestede’s praises next season, if our moneyballers (if they aren’t sacked too, which they should be imo) can actually find some players to provide the ammo.
And maybe the defence won’t look quite so bad as it does now, although I wouldn’t bank on it. As I said, all quite depressing really, but it’s hard to put a positive spin on anything these days isn’t it?

It goes from bad to worse doesn’t it? 🙁
What might be more interesting is that Garde has only rented a flat (sorry, apartment) in the city centre until the summer.
I wonder if he knew this was an “all or nothing” deal from the off?
So we might get someone in who knows the championship and how to get out of it?
Just a thought.
The worst thing of all is that the whole club have already accepted we are down. I know it’s unlikely but a couple of wins and a couple of draws could put us back within touching distance of teams above us as psychologically it would unsettle teams above us by closing gap. Just half a dozen decent results would give us a fighting chance at least. I know it’s unlikely but it is possible
“The worst thing of all is that the whole club have already accepted we are down.”
And that comes as some sort of a shock given they’ve been working towards it for the past five seasons?
He might as well say Au Revoir now cause he ain’t going to have a clue in the Championship.
Grealish playing in the championship LOL he’s far too lightweight & will spend most of his time airborne.we’ll have one hell of a wake up call next season but you never know we might just win the odd game.
You say that but he tore the scum apart in cup
NO it just showed how SHITE the opposition was.
Sorry but I’ve no appetite at the minute for what happened, my anger is still levelled a Lerner and co, I suppose it might do Grealish some good to get away from hangers on in his young life, but as you’ve said no signs of putting things right, to late anyway, but you can see what the club’s up to under Lerner, just get his money back he lost by being over here and ruining his marriage.
For the good of the club Lerner has to sell to somebody who gives a shit now.
If we are signing cheap championship players for next season veretout, Ayew won’t be here nor will Garde.
We will be sold the idea of a NEW PROJECT again and the suffering will go on.
League One here we come.
We should be playing more of the players that are coming through the ranks at least they should show passion for the club. e.g Robinson looked good pre season and i am sure he would have performed better than some of the others.
Grealish needs a run of games to get his confidence up not in and out.
It was a crime selling Albrighton and many others who at least gave there all and surely that is what we as fans want to see – 100% effort Win, Lose or draw.
The main problem is if it is percieved that your boss doesn’t give a shit why should any of his employees.
My team untim the end of the season assuming we aren’t going to sign anybody based on then fact that we are going down.
Steer
Bacuna Okore Richards Clark Kinsella
Ghana Gardner Veretout
Grealish
Ayew
Fair comment – we shouldn’t have sold players like Albrighton but at the time most fans (we’ll certainly on this blog) were glad to see him go. There are only a couple of players (Cahill being the obvious example) that fans actually complained about being sold.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I’d be a wealthy man if I could utilise it before the events happened 🙂
In fairness Hitch, I said we shouldn’t have sold Albrighton or Weimann.
These were the players that were at least trying and imo had the club genuinely in their hearts.
As you say though, it’s easy looking back.
Agree badger
I acknowledge I was generalising Badger but it seemed to me that the majority didn’t rate either of those players. The reality may be that, like many, their game improves with better players around them. The trouble at Villa Park is that, for many years now, we’ve lacked the top class experienced players that enable others to improve their game.
I liked Albrighton but he needed to have a run of games in his best position – the right wing. Lambert had him in the centre of midfield on a couple of occasions and on the left. Same with Weimann if he had played centre forward alongside Benteke i don’t think we would have struggled so much but again lambert had him right side of midfield and ruined him and many fans thiought he was crap.
albrighton right wing and Weimann centre forward with confidence are very good players but out of position were poor and i can see why fans didn’t like them.
McLeish was the ruin of Albrighton, the lad he was scared to go over the halfway line with McLeish and his ‘park the bus’ tactics.
Lambert maybe didn’t help matters but the lads self confidence was already shot by then and the best thing for his future was to find pastures new.
Agree it will be sold as yet another 5 year plan yawn
Badger
Why is garde not loaning out guzan Hutton Richardson because what ever you say about grealish them 3 are a hell lot worse
because nobody will have them.
I now believe Lerner is a Sadist and we are his victims.
We were down in November, sadly.
the more i watch what is happening down the villa the more i am starting to realise garde doesn’t know what to do, rabbit in headlights syndrome, much as sherwood lost his way if he was still there i think somebody would have had a fat lip at least,if they plan for championship that’s where they are going, i would rather they overpaid for players now(they have underspent for the last five years)to keep in the premier and show a bit of the old lion roar.
Agree BB Old Gardi don’t look like he’s got a scooby and I just can’t see him coping in the Championship, so I say get rid now and bring in Nigel Pearson.
Garde another here for Lerner pay off we go down he can blame all before him yet take no blame for picking the worst goalie in history without trying bunn steer or anyone else, can say the same with Hutton, since garde has come in the two above have cost goals between them every match with Richardson helping out when he plays
If garde was his own man he would had 3/4 signings on 1 St Jan not passed 6 the and no one in yet
by playing guzan every week it means villa get a more square inches in the press in the good old usa, drop guzan lerner gets bad press
I wonder why Billy Boots? Yanks together would you say, Badger your right in saying when we got rid or sold the players that shine for other teams, we lost our wanting to play for the club, what we have now are dregs in the game and couldn’t give a shit, give us back young players that want to move forwards in life and play their hearts out for the team. If I played now for Villa I’d be shamed to say I did.

Somebody please tell me it’s April 1st for fucks sake! What a cretinous moron!!!!!
In the post Christmas spirit, do you know ‘cretin’ actually means ‘Christian’ to remind us we’re all God’s children? But FFS, come on General!!!!…You couldn’t make this shit up…
Oh yes they could.Bum bum.
I knew we should have had a American General, thats why we are botton. See what I’ve been saying they think the brits are idiots not them.
The sad thing is he probably believes it.
Wtf LMAO what fucking utter bollox,it’s certainly cheered up my dull afternoon.I suppose the general’s now taking training sessions.
The next move will be give them a gun and shoot the opposition to win a game Giddy. Ffs,,
Fortunately for them, shooting isn’t our strong point.
Best thing I’ve ever heard from you Andrew!!!! 🙂
According to the French Media, we’ve made a bid for Lyon’s Claudio Beauvue.
People gotta remember, it’s the 6th. We had a game just this past weekend and a game this coming weekend. Some signings are quick, most are not.
Oh, and we still have to make room for these players, or we’ll end up having more Senderos’s who do nothing and get paid for it while not being part of the 25 man squad.
Err – I thought the Mirror said we were looking to offload our French players who are ‘not up to playing in the Championship’ and buying past it has beens instead!
Hang on to Senderos – we’ll need him next season along with Richards, Richardson, Lescott, Hutton and Gabby – we should keep old king cole as well. Lots of experience to kick a few people there!
Don’t they pretty much say that every window though, that we’re going for Championship players? Sadly most of our fans believe it every window despite it never happening.
I’d see us signing Championship players as an improvement compared to the shit we have signed in the last 3,4,5 years,
As for Grealish let him go, hopefully with the view of a permanent move in the summer. Overrated, lazy and dis-interested.
Stubbs those words hit the nail on the head, never rated him and never will.
see klopp wants illori back from loan imagine the scenario if he plays a blinder for the rest of the season
A totally pointless loan deal imo RB is one position we’ve been lacking amongst the other 10.really what was the point in loaning him??
🙂 🙂
We won’t sign anyone worthwhile in Jan it’s all rumours and Bulls**t to fill papers. We may get a token loan signing but that’s it
Ilori wasn’t a RB though, he’s a CB, who can play DM and possibly fullback as a last option cover.
oohah
would guess you are right but its alright the general going to arm gabby still the safest place to be straight in front of him
Watch this video. Serious allegation about the arrogance and contempt of those runnig our beloved football club.

Unfortunately, there is a small advert before the main video.
Cheers for that Sid were the panel bluenoses??
true Sid, every word, thing is nothing coming out on news from Villa, fans are getting more frustrated every hour.
Frankly it’s become plainly obvious that Lerner hasn’t got a clue about running a football club. I don’t think it needs a panel of so called experts to tell the fans what they already know. What we need is someone with influence who’s prepared to help us get rid of the numpties who are allegedly running OUR club but in reality are destroying it and Krulak with his ridiculous ‘John Wayne’ statements only reinforces the point and makes us even bigger laughing stocks at the same time.
They (the yanks) should all p**s off back to the land of opportunity and concentrate on netball and rounders.
Off topic Hitch take a look at this, (if a Liverpool fan was comentator semi final fa cup 2-1 ) you tube. ????
Looking at the vote it appears that most want him gone as they did with Houllier, McLiesh, Lambert, Sherwood,Gabbby and going back,O’Leary.
Remi’s done a grand job of shifting all of Villa’s many short comings squarely on the shoulders of a talented 20 year old that had a night on the lash, what piss poor man management and it looks like most have unbelievably bought into it.
As O’Leary said – FICKLE.
http://sport.bt.com/every-aspect-of-aston-villa-is-wrong-91364032270289?…….I have seen SO many like this recently. Not only from media but the “experts”…..O.K. ex footballers and when listening you are nodding in agreement….how the hell dont Lerner and anyone else in power think “hang on if all these are saying it might it be true”….well it is bloody true…like everyone else I just want this nightmare to end…we are screaming out loud that the world is ending but no one who can fix it can hear.
If it cant be fixed at this time when the need is most urgent then I cant see it ever happening…Bradford P.A. here we come…………
