Bolton – Villa; Surely 3 points, eh?

First off, apologies.
I said the QPR game was 0-3.
Of course, it wasn’t.
I was just so gutted, or more accurately numb, that I barely noticed we’d scored, even though I actually watched it live.

So while I’m thinking that this really ought to be a nailed on 3 points, the thoughts that even a club struggling to survive this league might still be able to beat us, swim in my head.
It’s ridiculous really, as if you want to finish near the top, you have to put the struggling sides away.
But that’s what this league is all about, in that anyone can beat anyone.
And as much as we’ve seen lows like the QPR game, so I think it’s a truly great league; just as it should be in being properly competitive.
If only the Prem was the same.

Anyway, squad news and the big one for us is that James Bree will definitely start at Left back, purely because we have no other option. And there was me thinking he’s a right back???
The only other change I’d expect is Bjarnasson to come in for Jedinak, but Bruce might have a change of heart and really change things up.
I doubt it, myself.

As for Bolton, Darren Pratley has a slight thigh injury which could rule him out.
Jan Kirchhoff, David Wheater and Josh Vela could all make returns to the side if needed.

So after losing to a team we really shouldn’t have mid-week, it comes down to pure belief on my part.

And I just think we can win this and get things back on track.

0-2 to the Villa.

The plus point is that it’s a 5.30pm kick-off, so I’ll get to see it, as it’s on Sky.

The downside is the AVTV subscription, along with other costs, has proved pretty much a waste of money this season, although it does get you the odd game.

UTV!

Is this ref on their side, heavy tackles from them not being punished , is Hourihan playing.

If the snow keeps falling then Bolton have to defend the more difficult end (condition wise) second half. We should be ievel though Grabben missed a golden chance.

doesn’t look promising. bolton are worth their lead. we struggled for most the half with conditions, there is another mistake in our play. we are not playing the conditions very well. playing too much at the back is dangerous with this weather

The weather has been a leveller first half and their goal was scrappy and should never have happened. Referee and his colleagues have been poor which tends to be the case. How the linesman missed that foul on Bjarnasson is beyond me. Trouble is they are winning the battle and if that continues we will struggle to get back into it.

    Hogan on for Adomah?
I don’t see how that’s going to help.

    This is poor.
What’s Grealish doing so deep, again?
You can bring all the attackers on, but if there’s no-one doing anything where it hurts, it won’t make any difference imo.

Get ready for the excuses, I played the wrong team, the weather played a big part why we lost, ect ect ect…

the weather did play a massive part in this result and thats not any excuse. i thought they might lose here anyway. playoff is the only option left open now. even if we beat cardiff and wolves did they would still be comfortably second. fulham will now press them most.

we have got to now start to preparing for the playoffs first securing them

Yep, that’s about the size if it Nath. We did have chances to equalise but didn’t really do enough. I admit to hsving stopped watching the game with 10 mins left – it just wasn’t going to happen.

Did Bolton play on another pitch? we suposidly a team trying to get into the premiership not Bolton, no excuse Bolton was the better team and deserved the win. You can now say we are far from going up.

there will be loads of villa fans upset with this result, with good reason we had the better players. but the conditions more than levelled up things. i think they played the conditions better. we had a few chances bree one late and hogan, didn’t grabban av a opening too. but had the conditions been normal. i would have expected villa to get a result there.

When Hourihane went off Grealish sat deep which effectively ruined any hope of getting back in the game. The conditions didn’t suit Hepburn Murphy who likes the ball at his feet. Hogan added a bit of a spark up front but Grabban was poor today. Strange substitutions taking both Adomah and Snodgrass off. Still think weather played biggest part in Bolton winning. We should muster enough points for play offs and after that it becomes a lottery.

it was always destined to be the playoff i had a dream it was lol wembley and terry picks up the trophy that gets villa promoted. i feels shady to spoil the surprise. but most of us will forget this post and this result by then

I hope you are right nath. Going up as play off winners with a trophy and Wembley day out always makes those who finish second feel a bit aggrieved. Of course I would take a trophy less second now if it was offered. Could Terry finish his playing career lifting a trophy? It would be a fitting end.

trust me i will allow you all to lynch me if iam wrong lol i offcourse would have loved to win the league. but wining at wembley picking up the playoff trophy. would be a fine end to our championship. terry would see it as a fine end to his playing career too

A nailed on win? Old Villa fans will tell you there is no such thing with this club. The only thing nailed on at Villa is the lid of the coffin containing our automatic promotion chances.

I missed the last 20 mins but knew we were never going to score so not surprised when I got back. I recorded it and am watching now. Around 78 mins we had a break. Hogan was free on the left and looked up but the penalty area was full of Bolton players, with one Villa attacker on the edge of the box (RHM I think). This is supposed to be a team pushing for promotion.

At some point the penny will drop. He is the wrong manager. The team that takes the play off spot is the team that goes for broke and takes the game by the scruff of the neck. not a hope in hell that Villa will do that. Top 2 is ridiculously a dream that can’t come true.

I am sick to the stomach watching our capitulations to teams that have nowhere near the resources or squad that we have. It isn’t good enough. Full stop.

    Bruce can f@ck off.

As for you lot that defend him. You think that is supporting the team? Words fail me.
